The second stretch is not stretching your lower back at all.. its compressing the vertebrae and SHORTENING the erector spinae... to stretch something you need to lengthen it! therefore bending the opposite is stretching it, that however is not. That would be stretching your abs, and to some extent hip flexors.
I have fought back pain for the majority of my life, spending thousands of dollars on physical therapy, chiropractors, and pain medicines.
Recently I have found by far the best, most economical help ever. Going through this routine every morning has changed my life drastically for the better.
Ive injured my lower back a couple of times. The stretches do work but you really need to do stomach crucnches to help keep the back stable which is why i tend to recover relatively quickly from my injuries as i have a reasonable six pack..
im not trying to be rude like other dicks on here but just trying to find help for my back. i hurt my back doing deadlifts from bad form and i need some advise....should i stretch or work out the area or what?? please help me with your opinion....what do u think i should do??
Very informative video for someone like me with back problems! Just curious though, have you heard of those G2 Back Stretch mats yet? They have self guiding pictures on them to help out with the routine.
this is not good...When you have a Hernia or a Bulging ... the best way is swimming on your back... The only way is to make your muscles stronger back and abs and de deep muscles also.
NEVER hold a single stretch for a whole minute. Worst advice imaginable. I wouldn't recommend using any of the stretches he shows but ultimately it's down to you there does seem to be a lot of positive feedback. BUT, if you are going to do it, stretch for around 8-10 seconds then relax, it can be repeated if neccessary but holding a stretch for 1 minute like he suggests is dangerous!
Really? I always just heard you shouldn't bounce while stretching, I've never heard holding a stretch for too long could be dangerous. After I work out or run, I usually hold my stretches for anywhere from 15-30 seconds, depending on stiffness/soreness.
If you have low back pain, among a host of other ailments, there is a really good book called "Healing Back Pain" by Dr. John Sarno. It conveys, without a doubt, the most Responsible Content on the matter that I have ever come across and has nothing to do with anatomy. I highly recommend it. You can probably find it at your local library if you don't want to purchase it. P.S. I've had 2 discectomies in the past - didn't know better, and...........yeah, it's a really worthwhile read.
This movement is 'flexion.' You typically want to avoid flexion w/low back pain, especially in morning as your discs imbibe fluids during night and r more susceptible to stress. When u flex, u compress anterior portion of disc and this can further increase a bulged disc. Sometimes your spinal canal can widen to accommodate bulge, however, while it 'may' feel good initially, u can in actuality worsen the problem. Get a McKenzie evaluation via a PT before doing anything like this if u have pain.
compress your lower back when in pain DO NOT STRETCH it causes micro damage lie on your front an gredually increase the curve but dont lock your arms out like he did go onto your elbows, this man is WRONG.
The first stretching that he demonstraites really helped my lower back, I have syatica in my lower back, and for three days now I have been pain free. Rude or not, he helped my back.
Again - these exercises are NOT safe for the lower back or lower back pain - for people with degenerative discs, osteoarthiritis, sciatica DO NOT do the exercises shown in this video - better to work on hip adduction/abduction under supervision of a certified trainer or physical therapist.
this is dangerous for the lower back - particularly for people with degenerative disc problems, osteoarthiritis - these exercises are NOT safe for lower back issues - better to try hip adduction/abduction under the supervision of a certified trainer or physical therapist - just fyi. peace.
LOL, you are correct. Flexion is NOT what you want to do with low back pain. You need to be evaluated by a McKenzie and/or Mulligan trained physical therapist. Flexion compresses front of disc, can increase bulge
The first stretch causes a bit of burn in the upper thighs towards your Vastus Lateralis and Biceps Femoris. So if you're long legged like I am you'll want to get your legs all stretched out before hand.
thanks for the video, 1st stretch relaxes the back and the 2nd stretch, similiar to the cobra stretch, gives more back flexibility and good stretch, try doing the second one from a pushup position,
Well i had surgery on my L5 becuz i fracture the bone there. I had surgery almost two years ago n i still have pain. Now the pain is not on my back but on my left hip. Any work outs That can help me beside these?
I only used the first stretch you displayed - but OMG it's brilliant! I sometimes have problems with my lower back but it feels so relaxed now! Thanks
shame on you for talking about things you don't know enough about

Heres my tip :
Jump in the car, go down to the nearest b&q, buy a tin of paint and a roller, drive back and paint your walls.
You can also get gloss paint for doors etc. Thanks for reading my tips.

Mild pace jogging, abs workout.
Try to lie down on the floor and move your left leg around in every direction or in circles, stretch it...
But - you're better off with mild jogging, fast walking.. swimming is also a great option.

2nd one does abs
who is this guy?

That's not true!
Both of them stretch the lower back, perhaps other areas aswell.
I know this to be true as I'm a gymnastics coach - stretching is very important.
m906oso 4 years ago 2
if you're inner thighs or abs are inflexible, then you might just be feeling the stretch on them more than you will the lower back
any stretches i do on my back, i can often feel in my quads
