When the government covers the cost of the public option so that it remains ridiculously low and people move away from their private insurance yet those companies costs remain high, those companies will collapse, the public option will generate trillions of dollars in debt, it is worse than anything i can imagine.
In reality, noone knows how the public option will affect spending, its all speculation, and once in place, if it isn't deficit neutral, it will be too popular to pull. We may need to raise taxes, and its political suicide for Dems to admit that, because Americans are too pigheaded to accept reality in their politics. But, I don't care, raise taxes, especially on high earners like me. I can afford to not have a new tv so someone can get basic medical care. Only a selfish asshole disagrees.
This is a very complicated piece of legislation. This has to cover ALL ilnesses, ALL medical conditions, ALL medical insurance plans, I would EXPECT this bill to run to a thousand pages or more.

The 72 hours minimum is a step toward the transperancy that Obama campaigned for. I think it is a good idea so that everyone, analyst, opposing parties or just citizens have the oppurtunity to read these bills before they get rammed through. How is that a bad thing in any way?

People without a job cant usually get insurance because individual plans (not employer subsidized) are of course very expensive even compared to employer subsidized plans.

This is unbelievable to the GOP who like the highest cost in the world for healthcare and poor healthcare, because it makes a lot of money for all the insurers. Do the GOP work for Americans or the K Street whores? Yes, the GOP can draw in corporate money but can they help Americans achieve a better life?

obama is not in support of a public option that adds to the deficit, he said so in his speech to the joint session. therefore, cheaper price must necessarily translate to cheaper cost if there is no subsidisation. however, with subsidisation to poorer families you are correct that it wont be tax neutral. but if it costs small business less then i think its still worth it, as it takes the burden of healthcare provision away from the people who actually contribute to the economy.

yeah, i'm in ny so no worries here. we'll get the public option no doubt, but i'm not even sure what the public option is! i mean, is it just like medicaid or is it just like private insurance and will still cost a shitload to get? medicaid is awesome if you can get it. i can't. i make too much to qualify, but not nearly enough to afford any other insurance. $200/mo is absolutely not an option for me. i hate the mandate w/o knowing the details of the public option.

You gotta fight for a public option that gives you a good deal man, try writing some letters to NY politicians telling them that if they don't look after your interests you are going to take your vote somewhere else. For that matter you could write a letter to Obama saying the same thing.

In reality, noone knows how the public option will affect spending, its all speculation, and once in place, if it isn't deficit neutral, it will be too popular to pull. We may need to raise taxes, and its political suicide for Dems to admit that, because Americans are too pigheaded to accept reality in their politics. Because this country is a free market and republicans feel the free market works best when it is run RIGHT. The insurance companies have failed the free market so far and its time to fix it. You're argument is meaningless because we vote for them to do what's best and not run govt programs only. We vote so they can represent the ppl...not run government programs . Saying that Medicare is bankrupt is like saying a non-profit charity is bankrupt. That's partially the POINT. They're supposed to use all the money they get to help people. If they WEREN'T bankrupt, there'd be a problem.
Also, do you know WHY Social Security is bankrupt? Cause someone decided it was a good idea to put the social security money into private industry, which is very successful at ripping people off.

S.S.I. isn't bankrupt, supposedly it's on the way to bankruptcy. NO social security money goes to private industry, all 401k money and such is taken out of your pay BEFORE hand and is used as a secondary retirement plan. The reason Social Security might go bankrupt is because in a few years they are projecting more retirees and handicapped people taking money then working people putting money into the system.

I'm transferring uni's to an American college next year and I have to say, from a foreign perspective, that this insurance bollocks is a fucking amateur way to protect the people that have to live in the USA from illness.
I am suprised how many people can afford it in the first place. I bet most of them are broke trying to afford it, too.

Medical costs are one of our leading causes of bankrupcy in the US.
People without a job cant usually get insurance because individual plans (not employer subsidized) are of course very expensive even compared to employer subsidized plans.
I feel bad for the self employed unless you happen to be in a high profit business.
Many companies cant even provide insurance at all now andmore dropping it all the time
Our uninsured are likely to keep rising every year as rated rise faster than inflation

Ignore the senate bill, and work hard to get your senate and rep or senator to fight to make sure the reps bill is the primary one chosen to send to the president.

Mr Paul needs to find a way that his people will listen to him, or he needs to jump over to libertarian or independent status and find his own membership to influence.

All of the countries rated as having a better standard of living than the USA, by the UN, have state run healthcare. Healthier people perform better and create a better society. This is unbelievable to the GOP who like the highest cost in the world for healthcare and poor healthcare, because it makes a lot of money for all the insurers. Do the GOP work for Americans or the K Street whores? Yes, the GOP can draw in corporate money but can they help Americans achieve a better life?
