w128jap, I received your reply @ my In-box before you deleted it. I think you make a very salient observation. "And yet, all of the screwed up things that happen to humanity, disease, disaster, etc still happen. Doesn't speak very highly of Him, does it? ;)"
No it does not.
I am a spiritual atheist. I tire of those who claim to have faith in an all powerful god, effecting bigotry, hate and discrimination against gays, in it's name. As if a creator of all things made gays as a mistake.
Sometimes I get carried away and comment where the discussion is better left to another venue. I decided that this was neither the time nor the place to effect such a discussion, and so removed the comment. But, yes, I am an atheist, and as such look at morality from a humanist viewpoint. From such a viewpoint, it is clear that marriage is a basic human right between two consenting adults, and any attempt to deny that is simply wrongly intentioned.
Civil Marriage IS a Civil Right! We are not a free country for all people, as long as our Laws and Legislators comply with bigots demands and discriminate against one community of citizens.
Freedom doesn't make love illegal. And an all powerful God doesn't make mistakes.
Bigots should be outlawed! By refusing to make this country into their image and likeness!
"Civil marriage is a civil right" - I couldn't agree more!
Not everyone is married in a church. Not everyone who gets married is Christian, Jewish, or Muslim.
Why should only those of the Abrahamic faiths receive the federal benefits, such as Social Security, hospital visitation rights, etc.?
This is all I'm asking of those who are against same-sex marriage - why shouldn't they be allowed? Whom is it harming? Why is it wrong? And how will it affect them?
Could somone explain to me how it is possible that the Congress of
the United States can pass a bill and the President of the United States
sign that bill into law that clearly offends the very Constitution that all of those
men are sworn to uphold?
