The movie was supposed to be an analogy to how the United States has gone into the Middle East and taken their oil. James Cameron wasn't commending the behavior of the Marines, but actually trying to send a message against it by having to protagonist support the 'navi' and portraying the 'navi' as innocent victims.

In the movie the natives are sorta cool with them mining in some places it just so happens that most of the ore is under sacred land and this is not repected by the humans, and the theme of invading for resources is still current today in the real world, sci fi fantasy and horror movies often make some sorta political statement and Avatar pretty anti colonialism I think you should watch the movie and make a new video torrent it or something its still boycotting

i just think cameron is trying to show how this is a bad thing, and he is using sci-fi as a metaphor, and any story dealing with drama is entertaining, and the struggle between good and evil is engrossing and engaging, and slavery stories deal with the struggle between good and evil. I do agree with you that the character development was kind of weak though, they were generic cardboard cutout characters-albiet well done cardboard cutouts.

You don't understand the point of the movie. James Cameron is not only focusing on what happened in the PAST, nor is he focusing on the africans or the american indians. He is focusing on what humans are doing NOW. drilling for oil, cutting down the amazon, invading foreign places. Whether you know it or not, it is still happening to this day. The movie was supposed to be an analogy to how the United States has gone into the Middle East and taken their oil. James Cameron wasn't commending the behavior of the Marines, but actually trying to send a message against it by having to protagonist support the 'navi' and portraying the 'navi' as innocent victims.
Just because movies confront a topic, doesn't necessarily mean they support it, in fact, it is usually just the opposite.

I understand your concerns, but as was said before, the movie was sending an anti-colonialism message rather than a pro-colonialism message (more like an Allegory than a disrespect for history). Boycotting the movie made your position unnecessarily radical and while it is true that the movie is cliche in the sense that we've seen this plot a lot before, the movie isn't bad in the way that you've presented it. In the movie the natives are sorta cool with them mining in some places it just so happens that most of the ore is under sacred land and this is not repected by the humans, and the theme of invading for resources is still current today in the real world, sci fi fantasy and horror movies often make some sorta political statement and Avatar pretty anti colonialism I think you should watch the movie and make a new video torrent it or something its still boycotting

I'll answer your question...Because we need to be reminded about our history....because Native Americans haven't had shit as far 40 acres and a mule go....this movie was a great way to get through to the arrogant mind of a White American about what their "patriotic" flag symbolizes for other people.

I meant now ding dong, but slavery was about profit more than racism, since you brought it up. And by the way, slaves were brought over and sold from Africa by Africans. Oh and it still exists in Africa today. Racism accusations today is nothing more than political ammunition.

Slaves were considered " 3/5 of a man", its written into the Constitution. If considering a different race as subhumanm, is not racism, then what is? Also foreign importation of slavery ended in 1808, yet the internal slave traded continued until the Civil War. Do not try and deflect blame for slavery onto Africans when Americans demanded slaves and breed slaves after 1808.
