  • I can't take anyone who uses the word audacious seriously.

  • It took him 21 minutes to say so yeah google violates the rules of some 2000 year old insane text... great. Lot's of rambling and trying to push his personal opinion, a pretty poor talk in my opinion.

  • Google's gonna purge this video xD

  • is she skiing with those glasses ?!?! might be possible...

  • shes a goblin.

  • Google is testing the waters of fascism. Just as an example, how many of you know someone who has had their video deleted because of content Google felt wasn't appropriate. Are they an indexing service or a fascist organization? It's sad but true: money corrupts all good things.

  • @HigherPlanes I'm pretty sure that one of the corollaries of Godwin's Law would apply to you. OK. What copyrighted works did you and your friends post that got deleted?

  • @sbergman27 I find it humorous that you take Godwin's Law seriously. But at any rate, there are plenty of examples out there- It's surprising that you haven't stumbled on one yet.

  • @HigherPlanes "I find it humorous that you take Godwin's Law seriously."

It works well as a rule of thumb. Please state it, just to satisfy me that you even know what I'm talking about.

At any rate, I haven't noticed Google deleting material other than to comply with their legal responsibilities. And in some places, they've gone to great lengths to thwart the demands of totalitarian states. But you haven't answered my question. What copyrighted material did you post that got deleted?

  • @sbergman27 Before you mentioned it, I was unfamiliar with "Godwin's Law", so did a quick lookup on Wiki. So rest assured, I know what you're talking about.

Although you haven't noticed Google deleting material other than to comply with their legal responsibilities, which is just a bunch of hogwash, I've noticed Google abuse its power by deleting perfectly good videos under the guise of "complying with their legal responsibilities". I'm talking about censoring content here. It wasn't my video

  • @HigherPlanes Please state Godwin's Law. And then please give specific examples to support your accusations.

  • @sbergman27 You do realize that all I have to do to satisfy your request is go to Wiki, copy Godwin's Law and paste it on here, right? Do you have trust issues? Anyway... But as for your second request, what do you want me to do, point you to a video that doesn't exist? The person who's video was deleted was accused of hate speech by Google, so they deleted his content.

  • @HigherPlanes I wouldn't mind seeing you go through the exercise. And no, you haven't given me any reason to trust that what you say is at all genuine. Go to WP and copy and paste. Fine.

You need to support your accusations with evidence. Specifically, what videos were deleted? What were the reasons given? And, specifically, why do you think they should not have been deleted?

You've made serious accusations. It's time for you to back them up with specifics. And you have given none.

    -Steve

  • @sbergman27 I don't want to site Godwin's Law. I really don't know you or your intentions, but I get the feeling that if I site this ridiculous law, which isn't even a law, you're just going to follow with more ridicule. Are you looking to be amused? I'm starting to ask myself why you want me to site it so badly.

Seriously though, this never was a debate. I don't have to back up my accusations to you because I believe what I said, and as far as I'm concerned, I'm the only one who matters.

  • @HigherPlanes My interest, regarding GL, is simply to help determine how genuine you are. You don't want to cite it, fine. That test has come out negative.

And I do note that you are still evading my simple request for you to come up with specifics regarding your accusations. Surely, if they are valid, you can present more specifics than you have. We might disagree on this or that. But you could at least put specific facts on the table... unless you were just talking out of your ass, earlier.

  • @sbergman27 I don't want to site Godwin's Law. You're so dead set on my siting this law that I'm starting to second guess your real intentions. I think you're looking for amusement.

Not that I feel I have to back up my accusations in a forum like Youtube, but purely out of the niceness of my heart and so you know that I'm not making things up, here is a video someone made in response to the video that was removed:

    /watch?v=9OJqohtFy1U

  • @HigherPlanes That's it? That's the best you can do?

Look. YT is what you make of it. Sure there's lots of crap. And there's lots (admittedly, a smaller quantity) of quality content and conversation, as well.

If, as the supposed target of hate speech, she disagrees that it was hate speech (though she hadn't seen it), she needs to contact YT. Not make another rambling audio spoken into the void. Google is not saintly. But they've done pretty well, from what I can see.

    It's not YT's fault if

  • @sbergman27 You were questioning whether or not I was legitimate, so I give you an example, now you ask if that's the best I can do? I feel like I'm on trial here. Stop treating this like a debate. We're on Youtube. And stop defending Google. No one is questioning all the good they've done. No one ever does. But Google does limit human choice, and any attempt to limit human choice will lead inevitably to the necessity of fascist state. That's been proven throughout history.

  • @HigherPlanes "I feel like I'm on trial here."

You made some bold claims that you couldn't properly support, and I called you on it. And that upsets you.

    "We're on Youtube."

And that means quality discussion is not possible? And that you should be able to spread disinformation without risk of being challenged?

"But Google does limit human choice,"

Nonsense. Changing search engine or video archive is a trivial matter. Just bookmark another URL. E.g. Bing.

  • @sbergman27 Firstly, If you want a serious debate join a serious forum, it's not going to happen here on youtube. It's clear to me that you're searching for a serious discussion, just look at your syntax- encapsulating my comments in quotes followed by your response. I know the type. But this is hardly the place for serious debate. I mean, there's a character limit & I'm not taking you seriously. I gave you ample evidence that you chose to ignore. Your call. Why should I even bother with you?

  • @sbergman27 Firstly, If you want a serious debate join a serious forum, it's not going to happen here. Judging by your syntax, It's clear to me that you're searching for a serious discussion. I know the type. But this is hardly the place for serious debate. I mean, there's a character limit & I'm not taking you seriously. I gave you ample evidence that you chose to ignore. Why should I even bother with you any further?

  • @HigherPlanes "But this is hardly the place for serious debate" Excuse me, but this is the Stanford University channel. If you were looking for the Romper Room channel, you came to the wrong place. The char limit can be a challenge. However, I regularly have quality conversations in the forums of university-sponsored channels. I've learned a lot. And hopefully, have given something back by teaching a thing or two. Despite a low S/N ratio, YT is what television should have been but never was.

  • Well, I never said you couldn't have quality conversation on YT, but for serious debate it's probably not the best forum.

There's no question to me that YT both supersedes and transcends television in every way, except for one very important way, they also censor content that has earned it's right to be here. The flagging system is a joke. You saw the example. You seem like an intelligent person, but I think you're in denial if you're telling yourself that Google isn't fascist.

  • @HigherPlanes "but I think you're in denial if you're telling yourself that Google isn't fascist."

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. -Carl Sagan

  • @sbergman27 Nice quote by Mr. Sagan. I guess I fulfilled the extraordinary claim part. So what kind of evidence would you deem extraordinary? I'm pretty sure I presented unquestionable evidence of a video that was wrongfully accused of hate speech and removed by Google due to a weak flagging system. What are you missing?

There are many examples out there. I'm convinced of that. You, however, are not. For you, It's a personal problem.

  • @HigherPlanes After I posted that, another relevant quote came to mind. This one by the Robert Heinlein character Lazarus Long: "Never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity." One thing is certain. There's a lot of room for improvement regarding the way YT is run. The forum software can't even do threads properly. & it would not surprise me if the moderation was similarly substandard. But I seriously doubt they go around deleting stuff that they just don't like.

  • @sbergman27 I agree with you on the Lazarus Long quote in reference to Google. Stupidity! I would say that stupidity has the potential to be as harmful as fascism, no? They're making a huge stupid mistake by giving the average content viewer the power to flag and remove videos at a whim, that's is tantamount to my earlier claim. There's definitely room for improvement.

The abuse of greatness is when it disjoins remorse from power. ~William Shakespeare

  • @HigherPlanes I use YT a lot. Mostly for science videos & online course lectures. The only content I've ever seen removed was e.g. all 1225 episodes of Dark Shadows posted in their entirety. & even they were allowed to stay for a long time. YT does not honor take down requests for copyright violation from anyone but the verified copyright holder. I've always found them to be very resistant to removing things, waiting until they were legally required to do so. Which is why I find your claims odd.

  • @HigherPlanes (cont'd) Also, 'fascists' do not take the extraordinary measures and risks that Google has in fighting the Chinese government's censorship demands. They walked a very fine and dangerous line on that one, when it would have been much easier and safer to just comply.

  • @sbergman27 In hindsight, "fascists" might have been too harsh of a word. What happened happened and there's always room for improvement.

  • @sbergman27

about 2 years ago,Yt kept removing a video of US soldier throwing a puppy off the cliff.

also,my Yt account got banned because of spreading awareness of Google's psychological approach to advertisement.

  • How much did you pay this bozo to speak at Stanford? He's a shill!
