It was a great ride. I did it yesterday (I'm back in Europe now). I believe it was up at 398 meters...anyway, it was very high. Too bad the weather was no good though. It would however be really cool if there was a window, but I guess most would barf from that...
Having been to 101 and seen the mass damper it is all very impressive. another interesting fact is that the foundations are steel girders driven 80 meters into the bedrock. The elevator travels at the same speed up as it does down and they put on a little light show on the ceiling while you are moving, i understand that this is to prevent nose bleeds for some people, not sure if it is true.

And btw including the antenna Sears Tower is indeed taller with 527 meters versus a "mere" 509 meters for the Taipei 101.
Counting only the building though the 101 is taller with 448 meters, than the Sears Tower with "only" 442 meters.

Taipei 101 is my favorite place in Taipei, I love the building, its architecture is amazing!

i love dubai and burj dubai...but taipei is so much beautifuler to me it has a unique shape!

From the 5th Floor to the 89th Floor in a little more than half a minute...incredible! BTW, I hear some English spoken in addition to Mandarin, a very-hard-to-understand langauge. Does English always have to be spoken while at Taipei 101?

burj dubai is already the tallest and its not finished. it will be 850m tall and will even be surpassed by al burj in dubai which will be over 1000m. it will smash eberything.

come on....burj dubai is only 500+ meters tall...it will be extent to 800meters only....the tallest will be the solar tower which is 1000m and above but it is not even built yet. do some research before u talk!

I'm pretty sure I saw the official site on Samsung construction's website (they're building the Burj Dubai) and I think it was 800 something meters.
I can't find it on the site anymore tho :\

Nono the petronas towers are the tallest TWINS but the highest is now the Burj Dubai (under construction).
The taipei 101 is now the second tallest and the sears tower is the tallest of the states but the freedom tower will be the new talles of the states.

It's a matter of national pride and to show to the world you've got a strong economy. Right now they're building the world's tallest building in Dubai called the Burj Dubai and this is just 4 years after completion of Taipei 101. They're also planning on building another in the Middle East tosurpass Burj Dubai in Bahrain called Murjan Tower

Do you mean the Shanghai World Financial Center? I know about that one, but I don't think that it is taller than the Burj Dubai. But another building in Dubai is just starting, called the Al Burj, and that will be larger even than the Burj Dubai. Impossibly large!

I'm really astonished at the architecture of buildings around the world. Last year I was in London, my goodness!! it's such a beautiful city with all it's magnificent architecture and art!! It looks like I'm going to put China on my travel list.
