cabinet was obviously not completely sealed as it should have been and the active unit was pulling in air either around it or the passive, grab a nice 12" high Xmax passive and call it a day, the passive in those are junk, needs to be able to displace 2-3x as much as the active driver. Still do the same thig if the cabinet has a leak like that.
