What they dont say in this vid is that its weight balance is high up. so its not all that awesome to hillclimb with, ive tilted over dusins of times on my mtx turbo. actually pretty scary riding sideways on steep hills with this thing :P
Ya, but it needs 20-25 more horsepower to really compete with the 500ss/600 E-Tec in terms of power.....i'm not quite sure how they would go about getting that much extra power out of that motor but it has to be done....
Im pretty sure that the phazer was never intended to compete with that power. realistically, at races and things like that the phazer is classified as a 440 and the apex is classified as a 700. I can acheave 21 mpg (cdn) and not need a top end every 2000 miles. If you want more power in an fx chassis, buy a nitro, which by the way weighs less than 500 lbs for '10 and I think that it will eat that ski-doo 4-tec 1200 for breakfast.
Yeah the Nytro will deff mash the 4-Tec.....the Nytro is 138bhp geared for speed the 4-Tec is 132bhp geared for touring/cruising.........but ya the Phazer HMMM.....I still say that it needs about 20 more horsepower......underpowered 4-Strokes are the absolute most boring unentertaining sleds to ride IMO......so buy adding 20 more horsepower they could kill two birds with one stone...compete with 600 ski-doo with power and provide a more entertaining ride for the Phazer buyers....its a win/win..
well, for the r-tx you can only go as fast as the terrain the machine was intended for will allow it to go so I think that for me its sufficient power, but I have to agree with you when it comes to the m-tx....that kind of power is a joke for a mountain machine. Yamaha has just left alot of phazer m-tx buyers dissapointed, and in turn has created a flooded market of used phazer trade ins dropping the value of them bad. here in canada anyway. The open tunnel on 07 and 08s sucks too, makes a mess.
"Yamaha just used a motorcycle engine" I wouldnt word it like that, I would say that it is a multi use engine much like the Genesis 1000 engine........and there's nothing wrong with that.......
I have an r-tx and on groomed trail over 130k's is pushing it, but I hear the gts have a 20 tooth top gear and get 150 to 160 kph.r-txs have an 18. I trail ride with 1000ccs and dont get left behind, but on the lake I fall short alot. The 2007s had a rear suspension problem that is now sorted out. I am 300 lbs and my r-tx takes all I can give it. you just have to tune the suspension for how hard you play. lots of consistant power.
No the new Phazer's are not fan cooled they are a 500cc ( Two 250cc dirt bike engines welded together) Liquid Cooled 4 Stroke Twin Cylinder with about 80 hp...........
my friends 07 phazer broke down 4 times last year and ones this year.. if you buy one dont turbo tune it.. reliability goes to hell.. 80hp on a 500cc 4stroke is a lot... if you need more hp buy a bigger sled...
yeah.. you ride it stock? if you turbo tune it you will get trouble... so dont do that... ride it stock or buy a sled with more stock hp.. nytro++++++ nytro are reliable with a 220hp turbo.. phazer are not reliable with any turbo..
HMM it seems that I'm answering alot of your questions..LoL..anyways the Phazer will prob get up to 80-85 mph real world top end so unless your doin alot of lake running you will have no prob keeping up in the tight and twistys.
Now I have heard of a few break downs with the Phazer but I would still say its more reliable than a Ski-Doo anyday of the week.
So, if your considering gettin into this sport a Phazer is a Great start, leave the fan cooled junk where it sits..
