How did you save the game in Phantasy Star?! I don't remember that saving was possible on the Master System, but RPGs without saving are quite useless. o.O
My favorite game of all time. It was the first RPG I ever played. I didn't even know what "RPG" meant back then, but after that game I knew I liked whatever it was, hah.
I was not lucky enough to have an SMS.I think the first video game i played was Super Mario Bros on the NES back in the early 90's.Luckily this game is playable on Xbox 360 and PS3 owners.Looks like i will be getting a power base converter for my Genesis.
LOVED this game. i played and played for months on end, getting through most of the game and then getting hopelessly stuck. BUT I called the 1800USASEGA hotline, and they pointed me in the right direction (back when it was free!)
I got stuck again, and put the game away but to my amazement, Sega sent in the mail a photocopied walkthrough of the last bit of the game, since apparently tons of people were getting stuck on it! Oh man, I wonder if I still have it.
omg! so many warm, nostalgic memories of this game! my mother bought this for me for the SMS because she saw the game cover and thought Alis "resembled my favorite Marvel comic book character, MAGIK " I didnt know anything about RPG's at that time (i was 11) but i was so glad to get this game. it lead to so many nights of me (and my friends) playing the game for hours. the sad thing is...i famously got stumped at a point in the game and didnt know how to get on to the next plot point and so
I never actually beat Phantasy Star I...but i beat II, III and IV. :( thats okay though, I'll have my chance now with the "Sega Ultimate collection" disc on my xbox 360 which features all the original phantasy star games INCLUDING this one! ^_^
I recently (sega master system still works, go figure) went back and played it and found out I was one hallway away from beating the game, I had no idea what I was doing when I first played this game
I was also one hallway from beating the game. I remember going back to the King after beating the big boss and then following through a trap door. I couldn't figure a way out, so I assumed that just must be a stupid ending to the game..... meaning that the King bad guy all along? Been so long, but this was the best sega game, pssobly better than zelda, along with Alex Kidd, Miracle Warriors, and maybe aztec adventure.
Wow. Those graphics are INCREDIBLE for the time. I didn't think it was THAT fresh...I've heard about just how revolutionary PS1 was and it looks to be true.
Oh man, do I remember this game! Was the very first RPG I had ever gotten; and I lost myself in it for at least 6 months. I do remember that this game pushed the limits of 8-bit rendering further than any before it; I believe it used a special cartridge that allowed it to store more information than the standard cartridge. Lots of good memories with this title. My full time work now is an audio engineer for a videogame company; Phantasy Star was one of those titles that ignited my passion!
Sweet, good times, good times. I played this when I was a kid and once I got lost in a dungeon and got out after a really long walk. But when I came back to play it, my little brother got me lost in it again haha!
Thanks to my friend I got out of it again. This game was sweet, first rpg I played I guess, without knowing about it.
i was like 6 years old when i tried to play this and couldnt handle it.i didnt speak english too then.but i remember u faced mobs like 1-2 steps.that sucked.and sometimes u tried to run they blocked they way or something and u died.

@zwischenzeilenleser
You saved data directly to the cartridge. Think you could have up to around 5 save slots.

I have it on 360, I've never played it before (I never had a single Sega console) and I absolutely love it. So old and yet so fun =)

Nice! I prefer seeing Sega games being played on the actual system than a emulator, doesn't have the same feel. 5/5

I'm definately planning to do more with recording games off the Master system. A walkthrough would take forever! but it might be worth it!

Awesome. My first RPG. I spent hours and hours and hours during a x-mas break way back in the late 80's playing this. Ahhh... the memories.
admiral202 3 years ago 2
spent a yr and a half trying to complete it and killed my cat by NOT giving it to a mad scientist where i was stuck. I never knew how it ended.

you can also play it on a emulator and record it with special progs like fraps & co. Or record it with a dvd recorder and rip it in your comp.
