  • photoshoppedddd

    nice video by the way

  • That was adorable

  • Definitely worth the risk! I love this concept almost as much as I love Pixar itself, and I think this is the best response to the "Amira hoax" or whatever it ended up being called I've ever seen. Thank you for retaining positiveness in the face of disappointment and championing faith in a moment of cynicism. It means a lot.

  • i absolutely love your BB2 painting/poster thing :)

  • Random thing.... Did anyone ever tell you that you look like Kate Winslet? Just thought I'd ask.

  • @smileyamber17 Haha, not really : ). I have gotten comparisons to SpeakMouthWords, though!

  • I kind of want to marry you despite being a heterosexual female. I can't help it! Inspirational speeches and Pixar quotes are sexy!

  • you look like a man with lip stick and long hair. sorry, your head is shaped like a guy

  • @pacrox2 Haha. You caught me. So much for trying to pass! : )

  • You are a pronunciation master, said the Arabist.

McMaster's defense of Amina (or rather #Amina) in fact sounds somewhat like yours, except I haven't forgiven him yet for wasting all of Twitter's time for two straight weeks.

CNN, girl? Jazeera or it didn't happen. :)

Your Pixar litany ignored THE INARGUABLY GREATEST Pixar film WALL•E. Here I stand, I can do no other.

    That is all.

  • @slavicpolymath I'm glad I didn't destroy the name! I was worried you would watch it, and be all, silly Amurican...

I do disagree with McMaster's defense. I find the incident interesting not because of what he attempted to reveal to us about Syria, but what he revealed to us about ourselves in failing to do so. How we understand the Middle East, that we are so willing to believe that the very Western Amina was real.

And I'm addicted to Jazeera, but have never seen Wall-E. It's on my list : )

  • @cateematthews WALL•E IS THE FILM TO END ALL FILMS. Seriously. It is in an entirely different class from other Pixar films.

  • I don't really have all that much to add to this, but I love the idea! Let's make it a thing!

  • To infinity and beyond! Hey, we made French the Llama happen, so there's no reason we couldn't do this. I could see it becoming big on tumblr... With gifs of you...or something.

  • @sincemarchoflastyear I am lucky thus far to be gifless on tumblr : )

  • @cateematthews That can change... :)

  • In other news: you said that intensely Arabic name with hardly the bat of an eyelash. Talk about impressive elocution.

Also, "all along." Let's just repeat that over any over. It's like wagging your tongue and making noise over and over again. Like something Spongebob would do.

  • @heychrisfox Haha. The name took a couple takes : ).

  • Someone i was subsribed to like this and i was like: Hmm... wierd title, i have to watch. After the video i was like: That was an interesting video. I look to the left and see other videos that you have done and i am like: Videos about Harry Potter, Pottermore and a wheezy Wink?! Subcribe!

  • @MrBanankartong Hello! Please to make your acquaintance! *shakes hand*

  • @cateematthews Hello! "shakes hand back"

  • Oh, I love this video and this concept.

  • NO CAPES.

  • I speak whale... just sayin...

  • Steve's comment trumps anything I could've said. But no, really, this is such a wonderful video. I like thinking that people on the Internet are genuinely genuine, but I also kind of appreciate the revelation when things don't turn out as expected. I'm still all for Pixar or it didn't happen, and I'm known to say "links or it didn't happen."

  • Pixar or it didn't happen! Think out of the box. You should have a healthy amount of doubt, but don't doubt everything and see conspiracies everywhere... On the other hand, why would pictures make it real anyway? Seeing is believing but that's hardly true in this Photoshop riddled internet world. I like to say that 'if it's on the internet, it must be true' but I know it's a load of crap. I like this Cate, I like this a lot :D I love how people automatically quote Albus Dumbledore.

  • @nenalyzed You leave such lovely and insightful comments : ). <3

  • haha, I love that title :D 'Pixar or it didn't happen'. Yes, I can live with that :D

I first learned about that blogger when she/he failed to show up for the interview. In a way it's sad that the icon turned out to be a fake. I do think that it's kind of intriguing that that guy managed to fool so many people. Of course the guy tricked us into believing that he was this lesbian blogger but in the end we all see what we want to see. We allowed ourselves to believe.

  • I will do my best to spread "Pixar or it didn't happen" around :P

  • @Mangapip Yay! : )

  • I want those crayons :(

  • whoa whoa whoa. You watch CNN? Really? Okay.

  • @WayhoRachel Haha. I actually get my news online, mainly from the BBC, but I'd was going to say Doctor Who, and figured that'd be repetitive. When I need to get info on American things, CNN is where I go to, though : )

  • @cateematthews CNN has just never been a reliable source for me :/ for some reason any article I read by them turns out to be false. I don't trust anything they say any more.

  • @WayhoRachel I think it's much better for quick things. Simple explanations, overviews, discussions of science for laypeople, that sort of things. Not really in depth or controversial stuff.

  • <3

  • Rule #35: An addendum to Internet Rule #34, which states "If there is not porn of it, porn will be made of it."

People have the false belief that if they see it with their own eyes, it is real. Of course actual eye witness accounts are next to useless legally.

On another note, people like boobs.

  • WANT YOUR POSTER SO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • See, you understand and plan your titles. I completely agree with what you say about having imagination. Being very analytical a lot of the time, it's nice to still be able to have imaginary friends. I do believe that there is nothing psychologically wrong with kids having imaginary friend, and that humanity as a whole needs a little more fun. Also there is a fine line between creating a persona and creating creepy lies.

  • Why are you so intelligent and awesome? Stop that.

    But actually don't, you're wonderful.

  • @outsidergirl <333

  • The problem with what Tom MacMaster did with his 'Amina' project is that he presumed to speak for people for whom he had no authority to speak. Amina was written in a way that chimed with pre-existing white liberal beliefs and prejudices about life in the Middle East. In so doing the writer marginalised authentic voices coming out of Syria, and he made LGBT activists fear for their safety. That the blog had to be salacious to appeal IS a good example of why 'pics or it didn't happen' is icky.

  • @alopith Very much in agreement. I had a bit (that had to be cut out for audio reasons) that briefly discussed what insight we could get from the blog - and I concluded that although we expected it to be a window in Syria, it was really a reflection on ourselves and our comprehension (and condescensions to) the Middle East. It all tied together much better in the the end with it, but : /

  • ah, Monster's Inc was the best :)

  • My friend can speak welsh... I mean that's pretty much the same thing as whale right?

  • @lavaredshrub Dory is the only person I know who can speak whale, so if your friends with Dory, than yes. otherwise. No. One is a celtic language, the other is a mammal's moaning.

  • Time I admit it.....I am in fact a 73-year-old lebanese woman living off the land with Johan, my goat/husband/mode of transport. The videos I put up on the internet are merely the work of an ingenious piece of CGI software from the future.

And who gave me this future tech? Why...Pixar of course. Therefore, I'm telling the truth.

(on an unrelated note, great vide! :D)

  • @TheSonicScrew See, I know you live up in the mountains - the goat bit doesn't seem all that farfetched. I can only imagine the rest is true as well.

  • @TheSonicScrew I KNEW it!

  • Believing that something positive in the world is true is almost always better than believing in nothing. For example I met Tilda Swinton in May at Ebetfest. Do I have pictures to prove it? Of course I do. The memory however of holding a 3 minute conversation with such inspiring actress is enough to hold me for lifetimes.

  • When you started saying "Pics or it didn't happen", I was thinking you were saying "Pixar or it didn't happen." Which confused the puss out of me. I eventually decided that you were only using one R sound, instead of two, and it's was all good from there. (:

Loved the video! Also, that bit about the Syrian lesbian was very interesting.

  • @TheCoryKid Haha. That's actually how I first came across the phrase - I misunderstood a friend in a G+ hangout, thought she said Pixar, it didn't happen instead of pics or it didn't happen : ).

  • 2:59 I was compelled to raise my own fist and bump the screen.

    Wanna pic??

  • I have the same poster and I love it :)

And it's definitely worth the risk. Even though odds are against it.

  • “Of course it is happening inside your head, Harry, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” -Albus Dumbledore

  • @fizzylimon Truly believe the words!

  • @fizzylimon I love that quote : )

  • COOL DOCTOR WHO POSTER!!!! where did you get it

  • @frenzymania11 I have the same one and got it on oneposter com

  • @yrpgullwings AH! thank you...awesome

  • love the video, you have won me over. I shall join the cause and "pixar or it didn't happen" will happen...
