this is probably the best hooters jam they ever did! saw them perform this at the chestnut caberet back in the day! had been looking for their version of this cover for awhile on itunes and download sites and can never find it thanks for the post!!!
Why?? The 80'S were strange and wonderful times, everybody had a job, big stupid hair, acting silly...I miss those days, But I don't live in the past...
This little beauty was from a tv show on USA Network in 81/82 I think. It was from the Brandywine Club and featured the best local bands around the country. I'm the guy interviewed before the Hooters perform in a goofy grey members only jacket (ah the 80s) but this was a great show. Loved this original line up...They were the ultimate jam band and would just let it ride out there, whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Can you post the rest of the show please?
Yea, thank God for WMMR and a DJ named Pierre Robert who really supported these local bands and had them on his program every chance he got. YOU ARE THE MAN!!! Thanks again for posting this stuff.
Hey dude, thanks for posting this!!!!! THE ORIGINAL HOOTERS - WOW!!!! I saw them way back when. And Robbie just cut his hair. It was down to his waist the first time I saw them at the Ambler Taproom. I can always count on people like you to post this stuff and it just lifts my spirits to a great era in Philly club life. THANK YOU!
um.....it's actually a Don Drummond song...it's what is known as a "cover" song, bands will sometimes do songs written and performed by other artists in their live shows...this just happens to be one that ended up on tape and that tape was played on the radio and it was the song that got them their 1st exposure...hence "the one that started it all" I hope I explained it better for you. Enjoy!
ahh, the song that introduced me to the Hooters. Heard it only briefly on radio, way back, but always wished they'd play it more, once they got popular. It's been in my head all these years. Finally remembered to search for it, so I'm glad to hear it again here.
this vidio was early 80's --- the only recording of the (studio) version is WMMR - old school --- you CAN NOT get it -- if you find any goodies please let me know --- emjr65 -
I still have my original 45 of All you Zombies, there is nothing like the Hooters, Beru, Tommy Conwell, Robert Hazard and many others, today. I miss those days. It sucks getting old, lol
Me Too man, was a big fan of Hazard, Remember getting into a brawl in Kensington because I was dressing like him... 80's philly music scene was hot, would love to see a comeback, but like you said, It sucks getting old..:)
Beru Revue... Wow, Brings back memories of The Chestnut Cabaret and The East Side Club...
Ska??? This particular song may sound a bit ska, but I'm not so sure I would classify The Hooters as a ska band. For one thing, ska sucks, and these guys do not suck. Secondly, I have heard some ska bands, and these guys sound nothing like them. The Hooters have a sound all their own.
its actually a cover of an early ska song composed by don drummond in the mid-60's. reggae music wouldn't be developed for a couple more years... nonetheless, the cover is pretty creative.
John Kuzma (Guitar), Bobby Woods (Bass), and David Ousikinan (Drums) played with Danny DeSouza and Danny DeGennaro in a band called The Torpedoes just before The Hooters. Torpedoes kicked ass with original music as well.
Wow, thank you for this posting! I've loved this song since first hearing it on WMMR way back in the early 1980's. MITS was before the indie Amore LP I think. These guys were amazing!
Wow, this takes me back....I fell for these guys back in 1985 and they shaped my childheed....I actually met and got to hang out with them back in 1990 in Sn Jose CA at a club called One Step Beyond. Anyone else happen to be there??
There goes old 'one-handed-keyboard-player' Rob swinging that left arm around like a cheerleader.
He ain't no Bruce Hornsby but he swings arm real good.

Ha ha I remember this from the '80's on WMMR Philadelphia. Makes me want to do a bhang (bong) hit.

Original was recorded around 1965 by Jamaican Don Drummond who also played trombone with the Skatalites his version was a bit more laid back.

Back before the Hooters sold out. AWESOME! Does anyone remember the original "All you zombies"? How about their first album Amore? WOW!
rorbin 4 years ago
Isnt't that line getting old by now?
Ever heard of artists developing their style over their career????
But no, once they get success they sell out! I am getting seriously tired of this annoying line.
Their development is clear over all their albums, I have caught them live in Berlin a couple of times and their growth was amazing.
So I am glad "they sold out" *yawn*, otherwise I would have never gotten to know them. And I have been a faithful fan ever since Johnny B.
