  • Pretty good sound. Intonation and attacks could use some work, still sounded pretty sweet though.

  • chick in the choker is hot

  • Hey, Cliff evans is at UTA now where I play. Cool.

This piece I like to call "two note Johnny" ;)

  • Are there French Horns playing too?

  • No. It is just trombone, bass trombone, and tuba.

  • Impressive :)

  • wow that's impressive

  • Everybody looks so young.I wonder if anybody from Bellaire High School made it on to the Houston Symphony Orchestra. We were blessed with so many talented musicians.

You think THIS is good, you should have heard the HSO when BARBIROLLI was there. The assistant conductor was Clyde Roller but BARBIROLLI WAS A PERFECT FIR FOR HOUSTON!

  • You should hear Duncanville High School's Symphonic Band

They performed Symphonie Fantastique at TMEA and it was amazing. Their low brass is amazing

I myself am from Waltrip band and didn't pick up a horn til Sophomore year, Drum Major 07-08

Bellaire's band is awesome. And I wouldn't doubt that at least one of them made it into Houston Symphony

  • I think these musicians are great, not because of note values or cleanliness, but because they are playing confidently, something you can't really teach. They siezed a great opportunity to make music. So jspponer made a mistake, it's only through making mistakes that we learn to be right, and princetrumpet, I also find your criticism interesting. For someone who plays in such a big orchestra, I'd think you'd understand that WHAT IS PRINTED ISN'T SO IMPORTANT. They're making music as A COMMUNITY.

  • I like your comment. Only hearable result count!

  • yeahhhh...so good.awesome players

  • Not bad at all

  • yeah man..is awesome...sound so great

  • man great job!

  • What youth orchestra is this and who is the tuba player?

  • read the info......

and I forgot who the tuba player was... went to SFA high school though

  • it's actually from the Symphony #9 in Eb

    #10 is in e minor

  • oh man you guys could have done a lot better. the sound quality was pretty dang close. but the intonation was interesting throughout. plus a note was missed up there in the 1st part, and you coulda been tighter as a section on your eighth notes. overall good job though.

  • if i remember correctly, there's not one single eight note in this extract (sorry, had to say something...)

  • sorry, didn't have the excerpt in front of me, I mean sixteenth notes.

  • And you're still wrong! Without the score "in front of me" I know for a fact those are 32nd notes! You need to do some homework before you criticize others.

  • Technically, and it doesn't matter, but I just had to say something...and no, I am not making fun of you pellekopp, but the release in measure 9 is an eighth note tied from the 3bars previously. Same in the release the second time the brass come in, after the 3 bars of half notes tied together. But anyway, it doesn't really matter. That eight note isn't what defines this piece of music as music, or even great music, and really, the paper doesn't matter in making music, because it's not music.

  • What professional orchestra do you play with, jspooner? I play with a major symphony orchestra and find these young people to be doing a fine job. I find your criticism to be interesting.

  • In retrospect what I had to say was a little harsh, I apologize. And yes, I was wrong about the note values, for a second time lol. But like I said earlier, good job overall.

  • Say what you will about the rest of the orchestra, their low brass section OWNS

  • This sounds very very good bravo, the entrance sounds GREAT!

  • This is shostakovich symphony number 9 in E minor - IV. Largo

  • It was not played well... The brass did not play it firm enough like it was supposed to, and when the orchestra all came in, it sounded weak, and lacked control.

  • you have to take into consideration that this is a youth orchestra, not professional. Dont expect everything to be perfect. Unless your one of those annoying guys who have a big ego

  • If you can play firmer than that...it's very difficult. Your standard is too much high... if you play it louder and bigger...chances are that the first player will not finish the concert. These YOUNG people are very confident in their playing.

  • Not bad at all. Not always in tune, not always focused, but close. Excellent job.

  • @mpmcd81 the one thing ive always hated about high school band is the sticking out of instruments, the blend of music is horrid because the mindset of these kids is that of an individual not the team

  • @ThePavin It is very true that you hear each part individually in this performance. That's not ideal. But please remember that these performers are in high school. It takes time to teach maturity. These kids are starting to develop a good characteristic sound, but blend, balance, and intonation will come over time. If it's an attitude thing, it's nothing a good low brass teacher won't fix once they go back to basics and get kicked around a bit by a good studio.

  • @mpmcd81 trust me i definitely understand, sadly it takes alot more for these kids to get in this mindset of the team rather than the person... i know first hand myself.. but definately good for high school kids.
