I'm making most of my game/animations in 3ds max. The newest version. Ive created the game /main game world/ character animations/models can i import them all into Unreal Dev Kit
Im new to this.. but the the textures and most uvw didn't come with it. I have a whole max scene that I really don't want to individual import.. any ideas?
It's not even that you talk quietly, I really feel that you move too fast and don't talk enough. You really don't explain anything. It's sort of like 'Here are the options you need to use' although now I'm going to use those options and have no idea WHY. The why is the most important thing when learning. Don't do things without understanding why you're doing it. It's just stupid.
when i had done a custom map i saved it... then when i opened it it said "The following resources where not found. Any references to them where set to NULL"
@meetajhu I agree. Spheres are no problem, but it'll be a pain to import more complex models using several textures to UDK and re-texture them there. Is there a tutorial showing how to import textured models?
@meetajhu I made a video that shows you how to create a texture map and then import that to udk with the model /watch?feature=player_embedded&v=iQ2C6ggocXE
PLEASE use a better mic when recording. Your audio is incredibly low. I have to turn all my volumes, and my speakers to near max just to hear and understand you.
I have a problem. When I import my Static tree, there is no material or texture to the tree. However,if I manually insert a material, the whole tree gets coloured with the same material. Please help Raven.I need your help.:) Please! I have an assignment and have to be submitting it next week. Please help.Someone please!
Haha allthough i kinda miss calculated the size (230x2657x598) and went a little over the top on how many vertices i used xD but it was my first project and it took a few days so im insanely happy right now =D ty
When i import a mesh i get a message that says: "Generated/Imported vertex count ratio" do you know what this means? Also my texture doesnt appear, is that something to do with this message?
why does this fuck ass program have to be 3000 dollars? Is every creative thing I try to do in life going to be too expensive to ever get close to reaching? FUCK ME!
Import failed for testsphere.test: Name contains an invalid character : [ ]
I have the same educational version of max as this. Not sure why udk wont allow me to import mesh from max.. anyone have any idea what could be the problem? Id really appreciate the help.
on the name of your model, UDK doesn't allow to have SPACE, try putting underscore ( _ ) between the words or anything that you understand as a SPACE. that should fix it
can you please tell me how to save my work so it opens up right. i just clicked save then i put all the files like package and so in a foulder next to my maya fbx foulder, but when i opened it back up udk tells me it can't find the package, mesh or texture. can you make a parth way like you do in maya because i am going to be handing it in at uni soon.
For some reason, when I put my own static meshes inside udk, and I build the light, they doesn't cast lightmass shadows on the floor (no shadows on the lightmap) however the character recieves the dynamic shadows. I think I tried everything, all "cast shadows" options are checked, and it still doesn't work. Anyone knows what the problem could be? Thanks.
Does anyone have a more advanced version of this? I made a model with diffuse, normal and specular map and I'd like to import these three materials all on the same mesh (mesh is already UV unwrapped etc.)
@FilthyDemonRaver sometimes in depends on the mesh its self i have found that complex mashes dont always work and sometimes even simple meshs dont even work it all depends on your graphics card, if your card is shader modelr 2 though it wont ever import the model (which really sucks). Hope this helps
Maya is 7k or 3k I think for the cheaper version. I am not sure if I can afford it. If I can't get a student version then I won't be able to make the tutorial.
Thanks for all your tutorials, they really go straight to the point as they should ^_^
And yep, as someone's already said, the volumes was a bit low and your bass voice didn't help - had to turn my volume all the way up, and usually have this set to 5% while watching movies, hehehe ^_^
Thanks again for all the effort and info you're putting in these videos! :)
well you should have to pause the vid to follow along anyway pausing to find a button is so trivial and takes like 5 sec to see where his mouse is on the screen if you dont have the patience to do this you probably shouldnt be useing udk its really simple and easy to use
Well sorry about the volume :(. But there isn't that much to explain. You just make a simple cube. Select export into ASCII Scene(.ASE) Then you import it into unreal and your done :D. It's pretty simple.
Well of course its easy IF you know how. But the UDK is new to us newbs that look for videos like this. While you're flying about, we're wondering what the hell did he just do. Now obviously you could say stick it to us all, but I reckon you're quite a nice person for going to the effort to record all these anyway, and you wouldn't do such a thing. BTW, I've looked at quite a few of your vids and they are by and large very good. Toodle Pip. :) Anyway thx for sharing.
i agree with him like sometimes you just say to hit a button and it takes me awhile to find the button if you said where the button is and sorta describe what it looks like it would be apreciated
Hm... how can you learn without stoping the video?
The same that he did in 5 min. on the video I'm doing for half an hour always alt+tabing =D Already got used to that, but it is simple to lost you cursor. There should be some mouse preferences thing, that when you click - the mouse flashes with yellow circle, not sure, but I defiantly saw it somewhere

You should specify that "Real World map size" should be unchecked for a working UV in UDK :)

Fullmetalpenisdude 1 year ago
Hey thanks for making such a simple video.
This is a great way to start.
My prob is that it crashes EVERY time.
I followed your tutorial to the letter.
Geosphere, standard material, export to ASE with the suggested checkboxes.
Went into UDK with simple additive level.
Content browser, import, into folder test_package, didn't add a group and it still crashes.
I tried ActorX before with a slightly more complicated object but figured getting it to work this way would be a great start.

hey raven i love your tutorials man good job!
got a question about this one though.
i need to work with the udk for school at the moment and if i do great i can specialise in game design next year.
i modeled a stuntplane into 3ds max and i would like to put that into the level im making as scenery.
but it wouldnt look nice if i would put a stone material on it xD
anyway to import the materials from 3ds max to udk and apply it? or maybe render them to texture and then do it?
thanks in advance!
