  • Only the Magic of Geauga Lake could manage to make a Ski Lift FUN. If I recall correctly there were usually long lines for this ride. I loved it. Great views of the lake and the Sea World shows next door.

At the far end, you could climb out and get off onto the huge concrete pillar. I saw loads of people getting kicked out of the park for doing just that.

People would lose shoes, purses, wallets, everything into the swamp below. The OPs must have made a MINT with all the found money... :)

  • I remember running and having to jump up on this thing to get on it and it doing a massive circle over the pond and shity water below lol

  • The simplicity and atmosphere is so relaxing, before it was sold and tried competing with Cedar Point. Watching this makes me wish I could travel back in time and visit the park. As a young child while at Sea World I would look accross the lake and wish I was at Geauga Lake.

  • I was very upset when I saw it was gone! So funny how it was like over a swamp looking area :)

  • I was very upset when I saw it was gone

  • MEMORIES

  • The beginning of the end of Geauga Lake was when they took out the Wave.

  • Thanks for posting the video, it does give me a lot of memories of the park from then.

  • This is how I remember the park, with the sky glide

  • I'm extremely happy to see a video of the back of the Wave, I remember it very clearly. I wonder if other kids' memories can be as bittersweet as mine. Not to sell anyone short, but my dad was a security guard, and not only did we go just about every day during the summer for ~three years, but he would also sneak us in at night and we would rollerskate and ride bikes around the park, and look for change under the Wolf Bobs. I get extremely melancholy thinking about dear old Geauga Lake :(

  • I miss Geauga Lake. I went ever since I was little. It's sad I'll never get to take my kids to it. They love Cedar Point but would've loved Geauga Lake. The funny thing about the Sky Glide was how totally unsafe it was. No seat belt, the bar didn't lock in place. you can raise the bar and hop out if you really wanted too.

  • I rode this so many times! Many great memories of Geauga Lake for me. Sad that it is gone now...

  • I used to love the Sky Glide! My brother and I would ride it and look at what was happening at Sea World and strategize what we were going to do next. I didn't know it was removed in '93 (considering the last time I was there had to have been no later than 88 or 89, this shouldn't be a surprise). Was this the year Rainbow Island opened? If so, then this was a big year for me for that too, because it was the only year I was the right height for Rainbow Island. These memories are making me cry.

  • I guarantee you that if they left the park the way that is was in size it would still be here today. It was the perfect mix with the waterpark and amusement park all together on the same side of the lake. What a shame!!

  • Great video. Wish I could go back in time.

  • I remember the old Glide and going over the riverboat down below. I always thought it was one of the coolest things at the park as a little kid.

  • anyone here about the mith of geauga lake being bottemless? the never were able to find out the actual depth of the lake

  • This is a great video..brings back a lot of memories.

However this cannot be 1984. I would say it is at least 1987 as the Stingray Slides are clearly present. They were new in 87 along with the Euroracers.

I can still hear the slogan for that year "Now More than Ever..the Race is On"

  • Thank you CoasterDad for your videos posted here and for your Geauga Lake Today website. What flashbacks I'm having now! I was born in 1970 and went there many times through the 70s and 80s while growing up. Your photos and videos are priceless!! Thank you so much.

  • I remember they had tvs throughout the park and at the Sky Glide they constantly replayed the video for the Michael Sembello song "Maniac" from the movie Flashdance -- it was a bit much hearing tht song about a thousand times that summer. If I recall we gave breaks to the Rock-O-Planes and the Dodge Em cars.

Thanks for posting the video, it brings back some good memories.

  • If I recall the dodgems were very close to the Skyglide back then - I do not recall where. For more memories please check out my website at geaugalaketoday dot com. If you have any pictures we would love to use them on the site.

  • I have similar memories with this ride. Must have been about the same time frame. But the year I remember, they played "Private Dancer" from Tina Turner all day long!

  • My memory song was song Wilson Phillips song and I think there was a Sinead O'Connor one too. There were TVs everywhere! I remember them under the monorail station and there was even one in the employee breakroom under the Double Loop.

  • I actually worked the Sky Glide in the summer of 1983. The Sky Glide didn't go to another station, like the sky glide at Cedar Point -- the ride just went out and back, which I kind of thought was silly.

  • I worked at Geauga Lake Park in the summers of 1982 and 1983.

The summer of 1982 I worked the ride (can't remember the name) right near the lake, where there are 8 cages that spin around -- it's like a ferris wheel, but with cages that spin 360 degrees -- I use to find a lot of change that fell out of people's pockets.
