@TOK150 Actually nope. Several North American citizens have known how to say "nyan" for decades. The mispronunciation is a result of Nyan Cat being so popular. Now those who've never heard the word before have got hold of it & erroneously assume that it's said a different way than the lyrics to the song say. Because they automatically assume the song is saying the English word despite knowing that it's come out of Japan.

SF became massively popular before the correct way to say "Ryu" was known.

I was fixing up my "Nee-on" because the "Nee" is technically too long and in the japanese language would be typed as "Ni" . the "Nya" and "Nia" differ in the legnth and how much of an "i" or "ee" sound is heard. For the "on" part you would say it like an "Ahn" or like the word "on". in the japanese language, "a" sounds like an "ah". using the english language. "an" from like the word "and" is the wrong pronounciation as well :P
