What you are doing is disabling the power limiting circuit (I think). A better thing to try is this - know that green lasers do not exist, these are actually infrared lasers shot thru a frequency doubling crystal (non-linear optics) which doubles the frequency so it appears in the green. Separate the crystal so it is pure infrared. You can not see it, but it will burn! That's the theory, I haven't been able to do it successfuly.
@FractAlkemist green lasers operate at around 520 nm so how can you double infrared which is around the 800 nm mark to get green? i think ya talking rubbish do some homework

if you wanted a little more of a challenge (user) styropyro has loads of videos where you can buy the actual diodes, the drivers (the chip boards that control the amount of power to the diode) and the heatsinks etc, the issue with this laser from this video will now be overheating, as it will not have a large enough heatsink to dissipate the heat from the diode, possibly breaking your laser, although if you are not going to be using the laser much, or for long periods then it might not be a prob

Most modern, cheap laser pointers probably don't have anything adjustable. Semiconductor lasers are instantly destroyed if you go past their maximum current though, so there's no way to tell how much is too much, it will just go dark, or more accurately, it will be turned into a very poor, very dim regular LED.

When i began collecting lasers, i bought a 150mw green laser pointer from laserpointerpro for $30 and it turned out to be 5mw-10mw....a decent green will cost hundreds....If its a red laser you bought...than thats a different story
I wouldn't try this. Reason being is causr these lazers are desinged to have output power of 5 to 10mw not over 50mw. So it will burn out faster. Also. These lazers dont have infared filters so yout eyes are in danger. All lazers over 50mw have them. So alot of that power that you get is infared light

It works, just takes time to disassemble. Anymore I just "peak" the lasers output by drilling a tiny hole in the case right over the potentiometer. It took ruining one laser to find out right where to drill my 1/8th inch hole but once you know where to drill the hole you can then adjust the potentiometer/variable resistor to obtain the max output. It usually doubles the intensity and will give you a good visible beam. To mod for heat will shortens the lasers life by 95%- 98%.

Simply setting driver to throw in more energy from batteries to the diode. It's overcharging diode so without some kind of cooling it will die fast if used constantly for longer periods. More expensive laser is simply equipped with higher class diode, that won't burn so quickly. But still it's nice video to show how to hack a laser ;)

Great video mate, I know laser pointers go from 5mW upto 600mW and more. I have a 200mW green laser pointer that burns matches and pop balloons if I put a black spot on them. Ive used my 200mW green pointer in some of my lock picking videos. I also have a 200mW red focusing laser that burns things very well. Could I make them more powerful by doing what you did in your video tutorial, or am I best leaving them as they are. Thanks in advance.
heres the thing, you bought a five mW laserpointer with a 5 mW diode. So sure you can turn the current up on the driver, this will push more power into the diode than it is made for, so it will burn out rather quickly, but the absolute MOST it could raise it is MAYBE 40 mW. 100 is simply redonk

the "screw" you were "tightening" was a variable resistor. this is what controls the laser power. Heating the surface mount thingy did nothing.
Semiconductor lasers are very sensitive to power output. You have a good chance of exceeding its rating and cooking it.

@huggg567 I can vouch that it is in fact real. The only problem is that your laser will get really hot. you also can only get it to about 50mw output

if they limited the 600$. people who understood the laser compenents would see the limited parts and probably would charge the company and the sellings would go down. its a nice hack but i just bought mine and i will keep it at 5mW for some more time.
if anyone knows how can i fix the buttom(its a used laser and the switch is very hard to use. it may be stuck.

Simply setting driver to throw in more energy from batteries to the diode. It's overcharging diode so without some kind of cooling it will die fast if used constantly for longer periods. More expensive laser is simply equipped with higher class diode, that won't burn so quickly. But still it's nice video to show how to hack a laser ;)

Great video mate, I know laser pointers go from 5mW upto 600mW and more. I have a 200mW green laser pointer that burns matches and pop balloons if I put a black spot on them. Ive used my 200mW green pointer in some of my lock picking videos. I also have a 200mW red focusing laser that burns things very well. Could I make them more powerful by doing what you did in your video tutorial, or am I best leaving them as they are. Thanks in advance.

heres the thing, you bought a five mW laserpointer with a 5 mW diode. So sure you can turn the current up on the driver, this will push more power into the diode than it is made for, so it will burn out rather quickly, but the absolute MOST it could raise it is MAYBE 40 mW. 100 is simply redonk
