I think people are just too lazy to say "people of Italian descent from Jersey", so they shorten it. I think it's safe to say most people think of Italians more as romantics than hit-men, even if they did bring the Mafia to America. We just made it into something else. As somebody who grew up in Jersey, I can tell you he's dead on. Almost all of our problems would be solved. An Italian president from NJ would be perfect. Wars would be over in a heartbeat, he wouldn't tolerate all of these massively drawn out discussions in Congress that should take one day to decide, social security would be saved, the border security problem would be solved, and...he'd get rid of political correctness.
And yes, gas would be extremely cheap.
