  • these people should get a life. This kid is doing great. He speak Clear and no Mistake was make!

  • Whats the big deal? Dad was right there because you could hear him in the background on some of the transmissions if they played the entire recording. It's a relief to hear someone besides overworked, overstressed guys spewing out a bunch of numbers. The next time you call center and a lady answers, see if you don't smile. Besides, the kid was cleared to go up in the tower and he was only giving clearence to departing aircraft, so he's not involved in directing an aircraft's position.

  • next time they do this they should put the whole clip in not just bits of it in the full thing you can hear the kids father doing the more technical directions... this why i hate f*#%ing journo's (journalists= lying scum who do or say anything to fill paper or on-air time)

  • all crap here, they should just pay the kid for the work done, did a better job than most.

  • If you never let in unexperienced people, you will never get one! ;)

  • The kid did a great job, stop trying to make such a big deal.

  • Is it professional? No. But as long as the kid was doing it properly, I don't think it's that big of a deal.

  • That's what ya get with the FAA, the F is for Federal, which explains everything. if i heard the boy on the radio at any other airport, after landing, i would go meet the guy. he really helps break the tension, and have some laughs at the same time. to the FAA, back off dudes

  • When ever mainstream hear a danger with planes or an airport they jump at the doom story for the ratings. its pathetic like releasing rats to a old green chip lying under the fridge

  • To finish, kick the kid home and do their jobs like professionals. If you disagree, why not let the pilot's kid take the wheel for a bit? I mean, Dad' right there?

When I fly, I want every task that could kill me if it's fucked up to be done by trained and focused professionals. I'm shocked (but not surprised that sentient adults disagree.

  • Are you people out of your fucking minds? Who gives a shit if it was a joke or if nobody got hurt? Ya think the passengers would have thought it was a good idea? "Attention all passengers, I know you assumed I'd be talking to a trained professional while trying to fly this plane and not kill you, but ATC's got a kid who'd like to give it a whirl. Don't worry, though, 'cause Dad will be right there. Whaddaya say?" How about, "Fuck you, Orville, tell those assholes to give the kid a Tootsie Ro

  • that's BS. that guy clearly knew what he was doing. and never compromised safety at all. He even talk when the kid doesn't know what to say and it was required. Its just a Parent shwing his son what he does at job, dont your parents take you to their jobs? hate reporters....

  • lol 6th busiest ;D pfft

  • I did an internship at my local tower during high school, it's a small class D air space by contractor controllers not FAA, and even though I could have sounded like one of them (older and plausable ATC person) they wouldn't let me make any radio calls to towers at all-- sticking to that rule that only ATC can talk to pilots when coming from such a facility. Feel for the ATC guy but he was kinda stupid for letting them do that, rules the rules. Hope he didn't lose his job though.

  • I'm sure the main controller guy was pointing to the screen for the kid to read, should not have been a problem, this sets up a goal for lots of young folks to take interest in this career

  • You don't necessarily need a license to talk to planes....how the heck do new people learn how to control if they don't have their license yet??

  • @airplanecrazy1989 isn't it a radio license? I'm not sure... I have my ppl and am taking an ATC collegial course right now. I did an internship a delta tower 10 yrs ago. They mentioned the rule to me but forgot exactly what it is required in order to talk as an atc person over the radio.

  • Not a single person was ever in any danger while the kid delivered several messages. They all were coordinated and planed by his day for god sakes!!! America has become a little to sensitive on all these stories. Thanks for fucking up are country CBS!

  • this kid was controlling the traffic better than me on IVAO LOL!

  • @ijjpfsx17 I could be the only other person watching this video that knows exaclty what your talking about lol

  • FAA freqencies are so fucking secret..... really. 122.9 123.niner fuck these ignorant wanna be aviation enthusiasts they they just want there 30 seconds in reporting.............. GLENN DUFFY OWNS!!!!!!!!!!!

  • FAA is a bunch of assholes. like they never humor at their jobs.

  • FAA = I'm a government bureaucrat who is completely devoid of all fun, logic, or a sense of humor, I wasn't hugged enough by daddy, who also never took me to work with him.

  • JB 171 was exploding from the inside hahahahha !!

  • is this really what people worry about from day to day? a joke?.... how about discussing something more important, like i dunno, umm... our economy??

  • My dads radio can do this

  • kids cant contact but some times guys can sleep when in ATC

  • 1. The "sterile cockpit" rule does not apply to controllers.

    2. As stated previously, the child was undoubtedly told what to say.

    3. Peter Greenberg, made an incorrect assumption that there was only one microphone in the control tower to talk to the pilots.

    4. Although the controller's actions lacked judgement, it is evident that safety was never compromised.

CBS, in the future, please do your research and find an industry experienced consultant before you turn a non-event into Armageddon.

  • FAA probably have assholes to control everything, no accident, kid told exactly what to say, just for 3-4 times. OMG even the reporter is such a bitch !!!

  • Apparently these reporters never sat on their dads lap and steered the car when they were young. It's not like this kids dad was in the cafe grabbing a coffee while his son was filling in. In addition, controllers at JFK are known for being some of the most seasoned pro's in aviation (if you've worked at JFK, it essentially guarantees you a job ANYWHERE). I'm sure the kids old man was a seasoned vet who knew exactly what was going on.

  • BUUUUULLSHIIIIT, Fuck the faa

  • This guy has no idea what he's talking about. He's just spewing bullshit. There's two plugs so that relieving controllers can plug in and smoothly transition between shifts. And a sterile cockpit is for AIRCRAFT, and the same principle does not really apply to controllers.

  • the kid's dad did right thing.

  • It's not like he was doing it by himself

  • FAA should get a life!

  • Good Job Kid when u grow up ur going to be doing that again

  • Those kids sounded so cute repeating the instructions. I know its not professional but I hope the father didn't lose his job.

  • FUCK THE FAA!!!

  • @shamrock608 yea

  • ATC is such an important job, that letting a kid communicate for the ATC, first of all means a risk. Secondly it had a bad influence on the integrity and professionalism that tjhe ATC should reflect.

Btw: remember that a brand new Russian Airbus crashed a couple of years ago when the pilot let his son and daughter on the controls, while (he thought) it was on auto pilot?

  • @Change6609 Atleast the kid isn't sleeping...

  • lol what the fucking big deal, he was fine, he was under supervision. Fucking FAA can suck my dick !

  • Haha these people don't have a fucking clue lol reported terribly. The reporter is a fucking biotch couldnt separate a fucking piece of velcro... good job kiddo!!!! Kudos for having the balls!

  • They're just mad, because the kid was sober, wide awake, lucid, and doing a better job than most of the morons out there.

  • i happen to think this was blown way out of proportion. OK, maybe not the best idea but a slap on the hand and dont do it again was all that was necessary. the controller and supervising controller lost their jobs.

the way the story was reported here is just ridiculous. they make it seem like they left the kid alone in the room directing the planes.

  • Ur all dicks......shouldn't have happened....hope this controller pays with his job

  • this is just stupid, he only cleared traffic to take off and his dad did the rest of the talking

  • Oh for god sake!!!!! He obviously was just trying to show his kid what he did. Why are people so stuck up! He was only telling planes to take off he wasnt doing a full shift on his own ffs!

  • Really News media? Really? *** Sigh *** " This is a religion " . . . My goodness. I think it is cute, nothing bad came out of it. He was doing a great job and from the sounds of it was directed by his father what to say.

  • 0:00 to skip ads!

  • The little kid calls a pilot "dude" in the full recording LOL...

  • It was no big deal! The dad was there! And not like anyone died so they should just let it GO!!! GODDAMNIT!!! THIS IS WHY PEOPLE HATE AMERICA!!

  • fuck tha FAA comin' straight from da underground!

  • FUCK, this is so retarded. with proper supervision this is completely fine.

  • It's not like the dad left his kid with the microphone and walked away. The dad was clearly still directing the traffic his son was just verbalizing what the dad was controlling. Air Traffic control towers invite people for visits all the time, that's not uncommon.

  • The FAA. the EPA, the FDA, the FCC... agencies desperately needed to be looking out for our good instead mandate their personal opinions or those of their administration, while they're all in the pockets of big business. Give me a fucking break. And fuck you CBS, for such a retardedly sensationalistic story. I know it's been a year now, but I just saw this, and this pisses me the fuck off. I would hire this kid and his Dad in a heartbeat.

  • I have met people who work with Air Controllers here in Milwaukee who were fired for being drunk on the job. But a kid, who does exactly what he's told by his Dad who is supervising him the entire time and cleared everything with all pilots before hand on a TAKE YOUR SON TO WORK DAY, causes the FAA to get their panties in a bunch. Fuck the FAA. What good has any governmental agency done for the public lately?

  • Ridiculous that they would take action against him. Slap on the wrist, "Don't do it again. Nice job kid, we'll have a job waiting for you." My job isn't ATC but my field is just as stressful and lives depend on me. That guy was in total control. You don't allow they guy next to you to talk on your radio without confidence. It's part of the mind-frame people with stressful jobs have. Over-reaction and CBS digging for a story, or a Curic replacement.

  • FUCK UNSKIPPABLE ADS!!!!!!!

  • 20 years ago who would care... Hell.. 15 years ago

  • the answer /watch?v=dyG5h7XBcYE&feature=related

  • He was on tower not departure DUMB ASS

  • The only reason why everybody thought it wasn't a big deal BECAUSE IT'S NOT!!!!! They just don't understand because they don't know what the fuck they are talking about, if they became pilots or controllers they would get it

  • The only blurbs he said were "cleared for takeoff" and "contact departure" AND HIS DAD DID THE HARD STUFF AND WAS THERE IF HIS KID DID SOMETHING WRONG!!!!!

  • This man was controlling JFK runways again, yesterday 21 Feb, and today 22

  • Even though something could have gone wrong, the kid did a great job! Its not like he wasnt supervised

  • Oh fuck the FAA! The dad knew what he was doing, everyone was fine, and I think highly trained professionals would know when to take over if the kid fucked up. Or at the very least have the common sense to intervene if the kid fucked up.

If this was 15 years ago, no one would have given a shit. I know. I got to drive a train into Boston Amtrak station when I was a toddler years ago because my dad worked on the rail road. A train is just as easy to fuck up as a plane. That is pure steel tonnage!

  • Ive heard the original tapes and I think the kid did a great job, Screw the FAA

  • It's funny how when the kid/parent does what they did and there is no aircraft accident, everyone is against the FAA. If the kid/parent would have caused an accident (on accident of course), everyone would be against the kid/parent.

  • @kd4adv Theres a guy that works at Kansas City Center after dark that is a Moron. It would not surprise me if it is the reason he got put on the night shift.

  • wow, its not like the dad was like "alright son, im gonna head to my doctors appointment, you take over till i get back." he was told exactly what to say and how to say it, the pilots knew what was happening and its not like the kid was manning the entire shift. its was just a few transmissions. not a big deal.

  • Learn the meaning of "sterile cockpit" lady! It doesnt apply to the air traffic controllers.

  • @DJMilo101 On the contrary it does. A new term to learn : Sterile ATC Tower. No One who is NOT an FAA employee should even enter the tower. This is 2011. The controllers are under enough work load as the pilots are. Read the FAR/AIM and FAA Regs about unauthorized persons in controlled / secure areas compliments of the 9/11 terrorists and the fool who admitted his kid into the tower. Tax dollars being wasted paying that guy who got is own ass in trouble.

  • the kid was better than alot of other controllers who have given me instructions and i have listened to the WHOLE tape. my oldest bro and my dad are controllers (my dad has eighteen years plus a couple years military experience) and they think its bull. As a pilot i can say i would thoroughly enjoy a happy kid willing to give me instructions like that especially after a long boring flight. Shoot listen to the pilots, they were enjoying it too, especially the Jetblue guy.

  • This was not a bid deal lady!!! What I want to know, is how this is potentially dangerous??? Anyone know? This is way dramatic. This is not dangerous in any way shape or form. STupid CBS!!

"Sterile cockpit" she throws that term out there like she knows what it means.

Go find a real news story.

  • I'm pretty sure the dad wasn't just like "iight you got this son ima go grab lunch"

  • ok ok ok ...first of all that kid was fucking aaaawwwwssooommeee !!!!!!!....he was like a little professional @ play !!... and cbs and the faa can suck it !!!

  • I've heard "Trained FAA Employees" that are worse than this kid.

  • @KyserAviation And where have you heard "Trained FAA Employees" that are worse than this kid?

  • Fuck CBS...

  • I think The Kind was doing great job...!!!

  • i love geico ads :D , austria needs better advertisement

  • Sensationalism...typical behavior of the media!

  • Comment removed

  • uffff so... they are going to tell the ATC how to work!!!! because they know so much about aviation .... by the way he most likely use 2 mics.... so he can listen the other traffic .........

  • OMG FUCK FAA THERE ACTING LIKE ITS A HUGE ASS DEAL I MEAN WTF LOL ITS NOT LIKE HE WAS MAKIN SHIT UP HE WAS SAYN WAT HIS DAD TOLD HIM FUCK U FAA WHEN I GET PRIVATE PILOTS LISCENSE ILL be doin fuckn loops in a goddamn cessna above the airport LOL JK

  • if this kid was like lets say at dayton in ohio no one would give a flying fuck

  • Fucking government and the damn media blow shit way out of proportion, get this kid a job there :p

  • Wow who gives a shit the 5 year old doing it can do it better than this news anchor ever could... -.- He did it right on par.

  • did he cause a crash NO if he did then their is the problem but he didn't nobody cares!

  • The FAA is just jealous because they dont have the skills a little kid dose to control air traffic

  • 1:28 b.s. Has the FAA ever heard of the word FUN, the pilots even said GOOD JOB< WTF any one who can direct Air traffic like that kid did, Deserves a high five and a future job as an ATC

  • i saw nothing wrong with this he did good not like he was doing it on will he said everything correctly and the pilots that it was awesome talk about over reacting

  • We're all doomed.

  • they're just mad the kid did a 10x better job than they will ever do in they're lives

  • the kid entered because........ his dad wanted to take him to work and show him how to direct a plane. I don't see anything wrong with it plus no plane crashed and no one died so why is the FAA whinging about a tiny incident like this?

  • i don't see any wrong in this

  • Frick the FAA.

  • SUCKING CBS, Can't you hear the passion in the kid's voice! How much he likes this. C'mon man!

  • i don't see the problem , fire the adult and hire the kid,.. he would work for lollipops.

  • Are there any updates on this incident already?

  • CBS YOU SUCK- poor kid

  • Fuck CBS

  • Comment removed

  • bet the faa wasnt going to make a big deal out of it UNTIL idiots like cbs pushes things and then the faa has to react. BUT the reporter was right about one thing... the kid was CLEARLY directing traffic...very clearly and correctly. why must we live in a day when we have to be so up tight?

  • i hate how these assholes spin this into some terrorist conspiracy plot.

" the atc tower is secure so we have no idea how the child was able to enter the tower" HIS FUCKING DAD YAH BLONDE!!!!

  • @praetorian2150 Sorry, I have to disagree with you. Shes being told what to say, not her fault. Blame the people who tell her what to say

  • Because you cannot have an extraneous conversation in a sterile cockpit, no one else can talk on the microphone other than the ATC. Yes, very logical...

  • what the hell? the kid was just having some fun, whats so wrong about it. if he said something wrong, i guarantee his dad was right there and would have fixed everything if his son did something wrong. thats rediculous the media and news needs to stop freaking out over the littlest things

  • @TjGilmourbcx7 Ofcorse... Because the Media is controlled by Zionists... GRRRR

  • 1) calm the fuck down. daddy is behind kid's back. and kid didn't say anything wrong.

    2) how is this a big deal again?

    3) oooo sooo scaaarry. only 0 people died because of the kid. and 0 more endangered.

  • this is stupid. the kid is getting a headstart on life. i wish a little kid directed me

  • omg a heard a bird took a shit...

  • jesus, they're acting like the kid was the only person inside the tower

  • The FAA's unofficial motto? We're not happy until you're not happy... -_-

  • 2:37 Delta NOC livery.... Looks like CBS couldn't get enough live shots of planes....

But honestly, the only reason this is a big deal, IMO, is because the tower is supposed to be "a secure area". The dad was right there, and the kid was just issuing takeoff clearances and handoffs, which is not nearly as "dangerous" as issuing vectors.... And the reporter completely screwed up how ARTCCs work.. Yeah there are more planes, but they mainly are already separated by their flight plans.

  • Huh? who died? NOBODY DIED!!?? stop wasting ppls time CBS, this is not news

  • Love the title, "Kid Directs Planes at JFK Airport "... He did no such thing... He was told what to say, and said it. He didn't direct anything.

  • hes wasnt directing any aircraft. he was repeating what his father said. this is fucking retarded. no pilot would be mad at this

  • Regardless of the meaning behind the actions, the kid should not have been directing aircraft. Sorry, but that's a clear fact.

  • the FAA can bite my ass. the kid was told exactly what to say and said it correctly

  • @MrRockoutLoud Totally Agree

  • @MrRockoutLoud hahaha well said. The kid sounds pretty good.

  • Oh who gives a crap, it's not that big of a deal, WTF this is just like those deuche bags at the FAA, To take one little thing and turn it in to some big huge god damned fucking deal, and as with the media, FUCK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Thats rite, i said it, FUCK YOU CBS!!!!!!!!!!

  • This is not that big of a deal! If he was controlling New York Center that would be a different story but, for just saying what his dad told him to say, not a big deal! It wasn't a large deal for the FAA either they only wrote that show other people that do care so people will not do it again! I hope this some how gets his job back he was an awesome controller!

  • that kid actually did a good job. chances are he plays flight simulator.

  • You dumb bimbo cause it wasnt a big deal. They bring a dude on to interview that has no hands on experience with aviation. The kid gave simple instructions to contact departure, and clearance for takeoff. The kid wasnt vectoring traffic to intercept the localizer, or even taxi instructions. Fuck the Media. They always talk about shit that they have no fuckin clue about the subject. They just read, read, and read some more off their teleprompter...FUCK YOU

  • I HATE the media. The media is so stupid.

  • Anyone ever see The Onion news video...'some bullsh*t happening somewhere'? This is some bullsh*t here...who cares...stupid media people need to get a real job. like reporting on the GD war!

  • Also, the whole "sterile cockpit" speech was completely irrelevant. Extraneous business conversations within the cockpit between the two pilots has absolutely nothing to do with unauthorized personnel communicating with the aircraft.

    And it's "Departure," not "departures."

  • At least FIVE transmissions?! GASP!!!

But in all seriousness, this really wasn't a big deal. As jake235atc said, the pilots enjoyed it, and the father was sitting right there and was able to take control if anything were to go awry.

  • Next thing you know, they find out that a 3 year old conducted an full approch and landing into Kai Tak.

Gee whiz, the FAA are so tight about airplane rules. Its not like he is going to get a delta airlines plane to go and crash into the Empire State Building! Its not like kids are going to learn by sitting in a boring conference room when they finaly reach the age. Kids of today are so dependent on visual lerning these days, and they learn even better when there are risks involved.

    age 13.

  • Peter Greenberg, go fuck yourself.

  • Yeah yeah he sounded ok. as long as his voice could of been lower, he could of been pro but come on, yeah he did ok but lets keep things simple. theres 8 runways there hes doing tower, people are waitnig for takeoff and arrivals and freq changes to twr waiting for takeoffs, ga aircrafts requesting transitions through airspaces these guys are all waitnig for that and this kids thinking its ok. no its. and now if people dont like what i said , THEY CAN GO FUCKING FUCK THEM FUCKING SELVES. dumbass

  • Media has gone out on a limb on this one. Kid sounded pretty professional to me, more than I can say for the reporters involved, let alone those in the FAA.

  • It is no big deal! The kid was being monitored and was pretty damn good for a kid!

  • How sweet, A child who's parents love promote his interests fully. Obviously the experienced trained controller was there to observe. There is no greater gifts than to give to the next generation early hands on involvement of an obvious child who has love and intelligence for what interests him. Along with the support of his parents goes along way. It is too bad this ridiculed so crudely. We all could use less restriction in society, as it is confining us all the time and ever more.

  • fuck the FAA

  • At least they were no crashes. I think the FAA should calm the fuck down.

  • This is so silly. I am all for taking responsiblity but this is a controlled situation and there is no harm here in teaching kids the everyday experiences of the real world and how important their parents jobs are. The kids were simply parroting what their parents said and I am sure these parents where choosing completely harmless situations for their kids to enjoy themselves. This is America and a person who themselves is terrified of flying I have enough faith in my pilots and ATCs.

  • The amount of people that care about a kid having fun...0,the amount CBS is blowing this out of proportion... over 9000

  • I can't even watch the whole thing. P.C. is making my head hurt. What kind of "expert" is the Travel Editor? He wouldn't know a departure controller from an ARTCC controller. My god, it wasn't like he was there all alone. His dad was right there with him. He wasn't responsible for separations or anything. F'ing news bastards.

  • dislike for the ads in the beggining

  • we americans are afraid to even take a shit anymore.

  • that jet blue pilot was awesome

  • Just like the phrase " FAA: We are not happy until your not happy"

  • it was just ground controll wtf is he talking about when he says multiple landings...

  • fuck cbs

  • Who cares? sensationalist newscasters making it sound like a "potentially dangerous situation" - please, give me a break! What hogwash.

  • Gayest news report ever, there was nothing wrong with a little kid giving 1 or 2 orders

  • Be honest tho, what a legend of a kid!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • @dis14u He was a tower controller

  • The media definitely gets worked up over the wrong things. So a guy let his kid mic up a little. And no trust me he sounded better than half the people I work with. Seriously

  • What the fuck is the problem, he didnt gave major instructions.

  • seriously, its so bad that people cant see the comments on live tv.. its just a small fraction of their viewers on youtube, and the majority get mislead on live tv

  • wow holy shit!

  • Doesn't seem busy at JFK when he was doing this. The ATC is RIGHT THERE watching and paying attention. Not a big deal. Side note mr reporter: when ATC's are in training they are TECHNICALLY not a licensed ATC yet ... not until training is done and THEY are speaking on the mics as well. These reporters are over-dramatic morons. 2/2

  • IF this is all the kid was saying ... this is silly. OVER-REACTION. And this male reporter sys the controller" relinquished control of the mic"... NEGATIVE. The ATC can overkey the kid. 1/2

  • these reporters have no idea what they are talking about. the controller could override the kid at any point. I think this was a great educational experience for the kid

  • hold short at the hot dog stand bitches hahahaha

  • this kid was supervised. this is ridiculous.

  • This might come off as stupid news. But air traffic controllers have huge responsibilities, and thus take home huge paychecks. The point is FAA needs to and should make an example out of this, so that it won't happen again. Next time, thousands could die due to negligence, and the FAA will be trashed for not having done enough to prevent a catastrophy.

  • This whole coverage is ridiculous!-I just listened to the full recording and the child only made 4 comments in total and was given only simple directions to say to pilots-the more complicated directions were given out by licensed air traffic controllers--this was NOT a big deal at all. The media has to start covering more important issues

  • @gfa55 totally agree

  • omg big deal, the kid probably did a better job than most traffic controllers ive talked to

  • "Your committing two violations... one accessing the tower and accessing radio frequencies" WHAT THE FUCK CAN THE KID DO I MEAN HES LIKE FUCKING 10. I BELIEVE PEOPLE ARE RE-TARTED NUMB-NUTS!

  • You notice that the media is the reason why we have a shit economy. This is a perfect example. They make little things that isn't bad and makes it sounds like its the most baddest thing to happen. They do this just to get attention and gain salary in the media business while fucking with peoples minds.

    MORAL: GO FUCK YOURSELF MEDIA.

  • @iwantpk2 thats so damn true!!!

  • Holy shit. Who Cares. I That kid was being way more professional than ive heard some actual ATCs act on the air.

  • just more liberals scared of their own shadows

  • Wow, land of the free home of all the rules! I know there here to make sure everyones safe and it was not a wise chose but....I think it was cool! Almost made me cry! It was nice seeing someone promote the wonderful world of flying!

  • i dont get whats so bad this happens all the time at my airport...

  • He said what a man with a deeper would have said. This i
