  • Love it, also its 1 of my fave games of all time!! I think the word glitch is thrown about everywhere these days if something is strange or inexplicable but to me the way the guy gets the orb and goes to Watts to get it upgraded and it comes up with the new sword name and logo and stats tells me it was in the programming somewhere right? I wud like to think of it as a good old fashioned secret that is hard to find haha! I think gamers are selling themselves short, it had to be discovered right?!

  • "The elder wants to speak with you."

    "Fuck that!"

  • That sword really is "off the charts". This is insane. How could someone discover such a secret?

  • I remember when my brother and I were kids we were playing before school and a random enemy dropped a weapon orb in the Mana Palace, we freaked the fuck out. My dad yells, "Time to get going!" and we begged and pleaded to have a few minutes so we could get to a save point. My dad let us be a little late for school because he's awesome. I think we would have died of heart attacks if we'd known about the 9th sword orb.

  • *Ugh, I mean Mana Fortress.

  • Dude if this song came on at the club I would dance the shit out of it

  • brb nostalgia

  • 当時のハードウェア性能からすると、このゲームの作成は本当に、

    神の仕事としか思えません。

  • If you go to the Mana Fortress, the terminators that you fight can also drop weapon orbs... I've gotten the lvl 9 spear, chakara, fists and bow/arrow..... but it takes time and luck to get them.... never seen it done like this before... one of the best snes games of all time

  • Someone must of been really bored to figure out a glitch like that...

  • @ClassicalSquaresoft You're not kidding. I certainly can't claim credit for it.

  • It's a nice glitch. Secret of Mana get cutted before they released it so in fact this glitch reveals One of the unused weapons. A Longe time ago I asked Nintendo of Europe to send me a List of all Orbs. The ninth Orb of every weapon is dropped by Monsters in the mana fortress well in fact you can't get a ninth Sword Orb they wrote: After Casting Yin and Yang onto the Sword it becomes the Mana Sword.

Well all because the Game Went much to Big. There are Mans unused Sprites and objects which are

  • @ChristianSNESGamer Yep - Originally, SoM was going to be the debut game for the SNES CD addon. That meant it could be a LOT bigger than a cartridge. Sadly, that plan was scrapped and SoM had to be cut way back. I always wondered what the original game would have looked like.

  • 8:42 what does the scouter say about his power level?

  • @NeoTifasRevenge It's OVER NINE THOUSAND...

  • @jtrevor99 Muhaha :D nice Tutorial, it works :) Thanks :)

  • it works on the Wii version

but will in work on the iPhone version

  • I managed to get this to work in the NTSC-J ver (Seiken Densetsu 2), for some reason I always failed to do it in the NTSC-U ver. Yes, the sword does very high damage. But it does less damage against Mana Beast (below 100 with Energy Ball) without Mana Magic enhancements.

  • so oehm... by travelling through time he never got expelled and can freely return his home? >.>

  • ZZZZ........

    i can't load my game!

  • the music ahh!!!

  • Chrono trigger is not an action rpg

  • Which game is faster paced Chrono Trigger or Secret of Mana?

  • This didn't work when I tried it. I got the 9th orb, purchased the upgrade, but it still isn't as powerful as the mana sword. It says the name is mana sword, but it still does the same damage as the lvl 8 sword.

  • I wonder if this would work on my version. My old S.N.E.S still runs and I've already got a back-up save slot read for trying this myself.

  • Is there to get the 9th orb on wii? Because when I land on the small island im in a different area and the trick doesnt work

  • you can duplicate orbs in treasure boxes. happens to me at the christmas house. The best thing was, it was a real snes console, the real game i mean.

But it happen only 1 time.

  • @TheGuyBehindThePC happens to me too...

i was in the gold castle and i got 3 sword orbs for nothing xD

  • I'm curious, you mentioned that the Boy's name was Randi, Girl was Purim, and Sprite was Popoie? That's interesting... I wonder why they never introduced their names in the story? I always wanted to find out more about the story after I beat and have a direct sequel to it!! That'd be awesome! ^^

  • @stretchypants123 It's all in the manual.

  • does it work for iphone????

  • In my own experience, the forged, 9-orbs mana sword seems to do less damage than a mana-magic'd one. Do you have the same issue?

  • I LIKE TO HAVE SEXXXXXX

  • i never understood this, why is the Mana Sword a valid weapon in the game if its last orb can only be gotten via glitching, was this a fuck up or was this intentional? And it's kinda weird how they hide the weapon you sought to restore and use for the whole game, yet you can still get it, and it really looks like the weapon the game was hiding from you untill the very end.

  • @Draidis Check a few comments down, where someone else claimed the same thing. There are 7 enemies found only in the Fortress (Terminator, etc.). Each one drops the final orb for the game's other 7 weapons. But the ninth sword orb will never drop in-game, unless a glitch happens.

Think about it...there'd be no reason for Mana Magic if you could get the last Sword orb through normal means.

  • @jtrevor99 Well then its a common super glitch because it happened to me back in the day when I played it on SNES and I didn't even know there was a 9th orb for the sword (or any other weapon for that matter) until I accidentally got it. Then I also got it recently on my iPhone version by the same means. So lgitch or not. You can definitely just get it by random drop on the fortress.

  • @jtrevor99 I actually did get a 9th sword orb in the Mana Fortress--I got it from one of the wolves toward the beginning. Now, that's not to say it didn't take killing a TON of them to get it... so maybe I experienced a glitch, but I promise you it's possible. I ended up getting the same effect you did with the power levels and the status screen representation; however Mana Magic was still required for the sword to be effective against the Mana Beast at the end.

  • The drop rates are extremely low. The sword does NOT drop anywhere in the fortress. One false claim I want to clear up is YOU DO NOT NEED TO HAVE LVL 8 WEAPON for 9th ORB TO DROP. The Axe and the glove are only lvl 7 when you arrive to the fortress. both 8 and 9th glove orbs drop off the wolf lord and 8th and 9th axe orb drop off fiend heads.

  • @Maxipad44142 You can claim that all you want but I got it twice in two different games on two different systems (SNES and iPhone) so I know you're wrong. Also I did got both of them before I ever stumbled upon this video and learned there was a cheat way of getting one. Think about it though. Why would they make one orb in the entire game only available via a glitch? You CAN get the 9th sword orb in the fortress.

  • @Draidis Yea ok then upload a video with your proof. The sword was only "MEANT" to be obtained by casting the mana magic on the sword. This was just a glitch in order to get the sword as a perminant addition to your arsenal. Its funny because even when you fight the beast with this sword you STILL have to have mana magic casted on it in order for it to damage the Mana Beast.

  • @Maxipad44142 I don't have a video of it because when it happened I didn't know this debate even existed. Also I don't know which monster dropped it because I didn't care at the time and I was playing through and it happened. I'm not going to play through again start to finish to find out either just to prove you guys wrong. I just don't care that much. I'm simply stating that I have gotten it twice, once of SNES way back in the day and once on my iPhone. Believe me or don't. I don't care.

  • @Draidis no - it's real. I've done it several times before. You're overwhelmed in terms of evidence.

  • @stretchypants123 Ok so maybe it does work. I've never tried it admittedly, still you don't need to cheat this way to get it. You can get it in the fortress like the other lvl9 orbs.

  • @Draidis i do too, secret of evermore....

  • @Draidis buy the official strategy guide and tell us where it talks about aquiring the last orb for the sword to forge the mana sword....I own the strategy guide, have played the game more times than i'd like to admit. forging your sword into the mana sword and having it PERMANENTLY in your artillery is only possible through this glitch. so dont call people liars when you're only "evidence" is your personal testimony, which no one agrees with and aren't willing to prove. dumbass.

  • @x120daysofsodom "Dumbass" I never accused anyone of being a liar and stated multiple times I'm only giving personal testimony. As for strategy guides look up Prima Guide errors on google. It's quite entertaining how many mistakes are in those things. The Castlevania SOTN guide is packed with them as is the new Mortal Kombat guide. These things are just as reliable as my own personal testimony.

  • elliot is begging for the ant to rape him...

  • This works on the Wii's Secret of Mana as well.

  • They just dont make games like this one any more :(

Hehe, since 1993 the 9th orb and the ruby armlet are the main arguments in the community. and now, 18 years later its still on^^.

    Keep the flame alive!

    Death to Tantalus

(yeah yeah, my grammar sucks, get over it^^)

  • once something strange happened with me. I was lv 5 , and when i killed a mob i lvl up to 95,96,97,98,99 then Lv P. the game started to become strange. My status Evasion and Defense was like your Attack in the vid, but much much more, that cross the screen like 3 times. Every mob i killed makes the noise of lvl up , but nothing happens. It was in the snes, not an emulator

  • @holykidd Were you using a Game Genie or Pro Action Replay?

  • This doesnt seems work on european version. Game will crash clock 3:20 in video. Game ask you remove your sword and then game will crash.

I try several attempts but always crash happen.

  • Thank you for this advice on how to get the ninth sword orb. I did it first try. Now Randi, Purim, and Popoie all have the max possible stats because of all the armour grinding.

  • awesome, fav game ever. where did you get your info about the characters names? i always thought that they were 'boy' 'girl' and 'sprite' because thats is what they refer to them as in the strategy guide, it reads a little like a novel

  • WoW it has being aloooooong time .. mana

    والله زمااان

  • After you get the 9th Sword Orb you then have the ability to get Solar magic. Visit all 8 Mana Palaces and re-seal all the Mana Seeds. Go to the site of the Mana Tree and Solar will grant you its magic.

  • @KingRobertBaratheon Wow, this false rumor is still going around? I feel old. I know the guy who first invented it - JD Cyr - almost a decade ago.

  • @jtrevor99 I was just posting this rumor for posterity. It was a good rumor to send millions wanting to find "Solar" magic because I, and others, wanted to believe there was a reason why all the Elementals, except Lunar, had a counterpart; and why there was a blank space where another Elemental "should" be. This rumor was akin to the epicness of getting the 121st Mario 64 fountain star and Banjo-Kazooie's Stop 'n Swap actually working between the sequel/original.

  • @KingRobertBaratheon

Like your name but George RR Martin is a fat dumb fuck.

  • @refuckulate420 Who has written the best novel series of all time. He's a legend.

  • @Draidis

That's a matter strictly of opinion. Many wil agree AFFC sucked and it's not the best series of all time if he doesn't finish it you moron.

  • not be off topic, but does anyone know where to take the "sea hair snail" or whatever you call it? the sea turtle hare.....somethin, idk. anyways, i can't remember where to take it.

  • @DoobieDude56 it's on some small inhabited island. It's smaller than aurifera but you will see the houses from the skies. Some dude there will give you one for free

  • @JuissB

thanks for the reply, but i came to remember that it was a guy in the kakkara desert that needed it. i had already aquired it. i just couldn't remember who needed it. thanks anyways tho.

  • wait, so that's actually built in by the developers?? looks a little complicated to have been intentional!

  • @jamchew1982 Its a glitch... quite obviously

  • Can't you do this twice so you could obtain another sowrd orb ^^

  • @RSAdiemus You could get a 10th orb, but it wouldn't do any good - a 10th sword orb would change the sword to a level 1 glove.

  • ich liebe dieseß spie

  • love this game and also have the glitched mana sword. also does anyone else notice that elliot at 6:41 looks relieved then looks like he starts fucking the ground! ...randi has the weirdest friends

  • wow... what friends. they don't even help you up when you're falling, then they kick you outta town cuz you picked up a sword that sends out monsters all over the world, which you'd never see coming

  • can't believe this was made in 1993... this is better graphics than pokemone red which came out in like 2000!

  • @xlhotlx which was a gameboy game. poor comparison

  • With out this glitch you can not find the 9th sword orb. You need to have the girl, and the sprite cast the 3rd spell that the tree god gets after you kill Thantos. They must do it at the same time and then the "Mana Sword is awakened!"

  • False.

  • I have a random (albeit stupid) question:

Since you get the 9th orb from the Mantis Ant and the game appears to be playing through the story, can you "replay" the game? Go to the Water Palace, talk to Luka, etc.? Or when you leave Potos does the game revert back to its original state?

  • @AceAileron No, the glitch shown here only resets the events leading up to the fight with the Mantis Ant. Once you leave Potos the game resumes where you previously left off.

  • @jtrevor99 Im not sure it might been told allready but did u know the "multiple loot" bug? It happend if you loot an orb from a chest by simply pressing the menue button as fast as possible. if the chest is then still present (grey) you can reopen it and gain another orb.

But dont overdo it! Once u reached to many the game will crash. In case you have to fight bosses that still drop some orbs it might you f*** the entire savegame. I lost hours of time back then when i was a child by crashing..

  • @jtrevor99 Yeah, I figured as much - that just came to mind and I was too lazy to try it for myself.

  • might be a dumb question... why didnt you show the level 9 charge move! i,ve always wanted to see that IMPOSSIBLY UNATTAINABLE CHARGE MOVE!!! WTF!!! you think maybe one day you could show it? i mean if youre not too busy.........

  • @GTABastard1 Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no such thing as a level 9 charge move in this game :). The highest a weapon (or magic type) can be increased to is 8:99.

  • I've owned 3 different SNES and 2 (personally) different cartridges of this game. I can play this on an emulator and not consider it piracy.

  • @satansam It was recorded on zSNES, but I own an SNES and an original Secret of Mana cartridge, and have for years, so I wouldn't consider this pirating. Nor would I encourage anyone to steal.

  • @jtrevor99

Also, I believe NES and SNES are already public domain, so using emulators and ROMS is not considered pirating.

  • @Plant0rsNutz

A complete fallacy. Next you'll be saying anything on the internet is public domain. Hehehehehe.

  • @eyeball226 That's correct, NES and SNES are NOT public domain at this time. And they won't be till the copyrights either run out (which will take several more years), or Nintendo declares them public domain.

  • @satansam who cares, man?

    nice done!

  • i thort the default name of all japanese rpg heroes pre ff7 was Ryu

  • @evilbob05 That's for Breath of Fire - fitting because of the whole Dragon story line.

  • sry to say this to u fanGIRLS but it's overrated and as soon as I saw it on WSC I didn't wanna waste my $8 onthat crap.... I had the snes version and it was more boring than putting FFVII and Earthbound together

  • Comment removed

  • uh the defualt name of the boy is Rusty.....not randi

  • @Anf26Hollister in america or japan its randi

  • Just so everyone knows, during the final battle where the final mana magic is unlocked so you can empower the sword to create the Mana Sword (which is why you are only SUPPOSED to get it to level 8) if you do this glitch, every time the mana magic wears off the sword, it will unequip. I assume this is due to the way it's coded, and how when the magic fades it's supposed to make the Mana Sword disappear until you recast.

  • RAAAAAAAANDI!!! RAAAAAAAAANDI!!! lol

  • actualy you can get all weapon lv 9 orbs (i think) in the fortress of mana

  • You can get every level 9 orb EXCEPT for the sword in the Mana Fortress. There's seven enemies that only appear in the Fortress, and each one occasionally drops an Orb for the seven other weapons.

  • Are you sure the default name for the BOY is not "SETH"?

  • lol time paradox O_o

  • SHIT!

    I haven't a new save slot anymore >.<

    DAMN!

  • I,VE GOT A 200cn SWORD ORB XDDD

  • why didnt this work for me?

  • @IxNathannn Which version are you playing? This only works on the NTSC (north American) version.

  • When I was a kid I used to want to fuck Flammie. I know it's sick. I 've come a long way since then.

  • @MrGrevy I've thought some sick things, but this wasnt one of them LOL

  • @0mniaVincitAm0r Well like I said...I've come a long way. That was a weird time in my life.

  • should show us how it does against xanathos too.

  • many lovely memorys<3!

  • This works on the UK PAL version too when using the console and cartridge. U can also make the save on the little island that looks like a turtle (where you get the sea hares tail) Still my favorite game, and probably will always be. Music, story, gameplay its just a masterpiece.

  • This works on the UK PAL version too when using the console and cartridge. U can also make the save on the little island that looks like a turtle (where you get the sea hares tail)

  • i love this game!! i'm going to go play now.....

  • nothing quite feels like coming home on a friday from school, sitting down at the SNES, experiencing this game for the first time, and then 7 hours later while its dark out youre still playing it.

    nothing beats that.

  • Comment removed

  • @DieZeitIstEinDieb Yay for you. If you really did, you'd find that a 10th sword orb changes the sword into a level 1 glove. Big cause for celebration.

  • when i played this game

    i named the boy PLASMA

    the sprite SPARK

and i named that girl IDIOT

  • is this a glitch? or is this a game secret?

  • @dyhs2006 It's a glitch--the 9th orb isn't supposed to be available in game (Mana Magic, which is more powerful even than the 9th orb, takes its place).

  • @jtrevor99 ah ic. thx for the clarification

  • @arabshotta It is an amazing game. I don't think it will be the same playing it now as it was when its graphics were at the top of the competition. But it is a very well put together game and its music has haunted me since I first played it. Have fun ;)

  • One of the best games ever. I miss those times. Nowadays all the games are shitty compared to these, except for Mass Effect series :D

  • 8.42:

    - "What does it say about his attack power?"

    - "It's... OVER NINE THOUSAAAAAAAAAAND!"

  • for everybody reading these comments. i have just confirmed that the glitch does work on the wii virtual console version. to do the reset its L+R+Start+Z on the gamecube controller.

  • @bugexe on the wii version i cant seem to land beside neko at ice country?? any thoughts?

  • @diggydog101 I don't remember which island exactly. I honestly just went around the entire perimeter and landed on every island till I found it and memorized it. I can check again to get an exact coordinate . Though oddly enough the first time I tried it I got neko on my first try lol.

  • @bugexe I haven't played SoM on the Wii, but it's entirely possible you have to land on a different island than shown here to cause the bug on it. It likely depends on (1) which version of SoM they copied to the Wii, and (2) whether they were aware of this bug and tried to fix it.

  • i agree with you all this game was a great part of my life about 15 years ago. and zelda on snes. great storys

  • nothing like playing a good game to the core

  • so is this able to be done on the wii's version of Secret Of Mana i'm from AU and i downloaded it from the store and i have tried to do this but it just ain't working if some one could correct me or help that would be greatly appreciated by the way what was the toy hammer and the moogle pouch there i saw i don't know where they were obtained so if i could be told about them aswell it would be awsome =)

  • @Herdanger89 Can't say if it's doable on the Wii. Probably depends on which version is being emulated. I think only the NTSC version is capable of this glitch.

The Midge Hammer is given by the Chief Dwarf after you've reached the Upperland Forest. It changes any "tiny" characters back to full size. The Moogle Belt (which changes "Moogled" characters back to normal) is harder to find. First land on an island south of Kakkara, and get a Sea Hare's Tail. Then take it to the Elder in Kakkara.

  • @jtrevor99 thanks for letting me know, i shall definately try out what you told me i knew the sea hare's tale was for something but i couldn't remember what it was for thanks a bunch =)

  • I recommend doing this trick as soon as you get to the ice country. then you go through the game 'a sword orb up'. You get Excalibur when you're supposed to have Claymore, Masamune when you're supposed to have Excalibur, Gigas Sword when you're supposed to have Masamune, and Dragon Buster instead of Gigas Sword, right in time for those 3 dragon battles in Pure land. Of course, you then get the 9th sword orb in the pure land, and the Mana Sword's good to go :)

  • @Angelalex242

I think that is too early. One of the sword orbs is in a treasure box in the sunken fortress. Maybe this box disappears if you have the orb already.

  • Too bad that one never worked in the EU (or particularly German) version.

  • wow

  • Fantastic!

  • i want a remke on the Nintendo DS(i) same game, but somwaht better graphics not to much do because the uniq style and music must be spared, but i so want a remake of this.

I normaly like turn based rpgs way more. But this game was foking great the best and stil heariing the musci makes me long for it again, i had it 2 years ago original box and all mint state but sold it, because of realtaion and no time for gaming ...reget it verry much aldo i make good monny .

whos for a remke also e?

  • @Ni83co I agree. We've seen Final Fantasy IV redone on 3 different systems (including a total revamp on the DS). Chrono Trigger came to both the PS1 and the DS. Final Fantasy VI was on the PS1, and the original Final Fantasy has been redone so many times I've lost count.

Somebody needs to send Square a memo and tell them to wake up; We want our encore of Secret of Mana. I still have my original Super NES cart, but I'd pay good money for a rerelease.

  • My favorite game ever!

  • this and chrono trigger and ff 2

  • Awesome vid

  • Will they ever remake this game for the Nintendo DS? I loved the Chrono Trigger remake!

  • Bad question, but wich button on the snes controller do you click on to get up items and magic? o.O

  • is this possible with the virtual console version of SOM?

  • why bother about trick if u use virtual console (or aka emulator, if you mean that?) just use code, much easier.

  • @SPGoblivion

EDIT: just got it to work on VC.

  • o_o...... great! ^^

  • uhm the 9. sword orb is just like the other ones XD i got every lvl of every weapone(it wasnt dificult and yes i used a bug to get the same orb 3 time's in a row for the lance at the begining(there is a chest u can open it and then it apears just after the other disapears so i got an lvl 4 weapone near the mushroom vilige)

  • If the 9th sword orb was the same as the others then it wouldn't be necessary to use a glitch to get it.

  • u can use the same gliches on multiple game's u know?^^ its nothing than a bug that u load a game if u end it and it is just as bevore but just there were u was bevore u end it

  • Is it actually possible to find the 9th sword orb in the game?

  • the 9th sword orb does not exist, what he is showing u is a glitch to get the first sword orb in the game with your saved file

  • Yeah, i knew what he was doing i was just wondering whether a 9th sword orb was actually programmed into the game, and now I do. Why is there 9 orbs for everytin' but sword then? (if the answer involves something nearer the end of the game, do not tell me as i haven't completed the game yet)

  • i think each orb represents a restoration of the former weapons... well aleast for the sword it is... i hope this answers your question. if not then u'll understand at the end of the game what does the final and last upgrade represents.

  • "Mana Magic" takes the place of the final sword orb, in that it restores the Mana Sword to full power.

Interestingly, Mana Magic on the level 8 sword is more powerful than the level 9 sword by itself.

  • Is it possible to do this multiple times in order to level the sword from... for instanec 1-9?

  • It can be done, yes, but I'd recommend against it--if you get a 10th sword orb by accident it can cause some major glitches.

  • Anybody know where one can find a recording of the music from the world map/dragon riding part? Love that music with the lightning crashes in the background.

  • That's a great song, I agree. It's called "Prophecy" and you can find plenty of copies of it on the Internet.

One of my favorite remixes is here on Youtube. I can't post a link but search for "Secret of Mana Prophecy Remix" - it's the top link.

  • Argg I went from lvl 60 to lvl 99 just hunting plus xtra days on Werewolf for that Freaking Glove Orb D=<

  • Do you know whats wrong with this thing?

Everytime I land on the little island i appear in a zone where there are two wolves and 1 turtle and 2 clouds. I never appear where NEKO, so I cant do this thing.

  • It could be a couple of different things. Either you're playing a non-NTSC (North American) copy, or you're landing on the wrong small island in Ice Country (there's more than one).

  • Do u think it will work if I rename the "saved state" file and try another version? Because Im positive im landing on the correct island.

  • NEvermind I got it, I used changed file name and then used another version, anyway thx for ur walkthrough its very helpful! I played this game ages ago so i didnt remember lots of stuff.

  • that is a great little secret put in by developers. and the wrap around bar is hilarious :P

  • Ah this brings back memories! I remember this glitch and it was great for pwning the mana fortress. Like this video, I had all the other level 9 orbs and leveled up for hours to 99. Never once found the 9th sword orb this way. But kudos on the weapon skill leveling to 8:99 for all of them. For me, I got some of the weapons to 8:99 but others would not progress past 8:30-8:60.

  • It took me a long time but I finally figured out how the weapon leveling works. Each enemy has an innate level, and you only gain weapon experience when you kill enemies at a higher level than you. The highest leveled enemy in the game is I think the Terminator at 70, so as soon as you hit 70 you can't level weapons anymore.
