Actually Jerome "casper" Candidate (not sure if I have his last name correct) taught MJ how to do the backslide. Jeff sent Casper to work with MJ, not sure why Jeff is calling it the moonwalk. The moonwalk goes forward as if walking on the moon. No one walk backwards on the moon. As far as doing this move before, back the 1940's it was called the "get off" because hoofers used it to get off stage.

Ill be honest this move was done way before the 70's and has been done by countless dancers. As 62# stated bill bailey is one of the dancers who also did this move. JD did not teach michael the backslide. the other two dancers, derek jaxson and geron candidate are the ones who taught him. Michael just like JD dancing. michael seen derek and geron do the backslide on soul train and o he had his management call them and they worked on it for 3 days. michael dismissed derek because of his behavior so geron was the one who taught and help him perfect it. that's the story behind how michael learned it. JD had nothing to do with it.
