@ikagabisonia Dafuq? Well, Herzog put this song in one scene in his movie Nosferatu (that's where this clip is from) and made it even more epic. It's an incredibly beautiful song, even though I don't understand the lyrics.
And your statement makes zero sense, sir. Nobody's arguing with you.
@ikagabisonia werner herzog exposed non-georgians to the music, many like me never heard such sounds and now we are hooked and cry out for gordela, dude if you can find gordela and get it into production bro get it on amazon.com or something, the world needs this. So ikagabisonia how old is this song and what is it about, i was thinking maybe it was a lover writing a poem to the other lover
This is one of my favourites. However I was hoping to get the one with the Town square and all the weird people and rats as a woman walks through the space... Have they taken it down? Can anyone help me?
The best vampire film ever made. It's so tragically romantic and atmospheric and creepy. The scenes in the castle and the mysterious mountains give me chills.
I'm glad they made a color version with actual dialogue instead of subtitles (the original had subs right?). Voldemort back in 1979. Vampires look weird with buck teeth.
GEORGIAN SONG - "TSINTSKHARO" or "TSINSKARO"..... It is a village in Georgia and the song aboute man who visited in this village and saw beautiful girl in there ))))))
People who'd like a more modern adapation of 'Nosferatu' might find it worthwile to check out 'Shadow of the Vampire' (2000) with John Malkovich and Willem Dafoe. It's not really a straightforward remake, but a story about Murnau making the movie with a real vampire he dug up from Transsylvania. He tells all the actors and crew that 'count Orlock' is actually character actor 'Max Schreck' who insists on staying fully in character. As the movie progresses, things start to get out of hand...
I always found Kinski more sad than scary in this, a pathetic figure. It was more the atmosphere of the film that was creepy, what wasn't spelled out. Once Kinski is on screen it's almost an anti-climax.
Yet this music still gives me chills and makes me start tearing up....
I looked for this passage everywhere for years and years from long before there was an internet. As soon as the internet existed I started looking for it, both the visual and the recording. I could not find the record anywhere and I'm not sure this version even exists outside of this film. I contented myself with the almost as rare Hamlet Gonashvili version which I have come to love, but still longed for this one. Finding this clip here now is the culmination of 25 years of searching. Thank you.
@clemdane oh my this is my story as well, i saw this movie back in 2003 and fell in love with this song instantly, i became obsessed, amazon has a picture of the cover of the album made by russian dvd, i tracked down russian dvd and they said it was unavailable, and same thing here had to contend with hamlet gonashvili, but i think hamlet was in the gordela group too, it would be nice to get a cd of gordela, wtf happend over there? too many wars or what? this is the most beautiful song ever
@portableversion thru my quest of finding this i found a website called best of gerogian music or something they had a bunch of georgian music you could at the time click on it and listen but no gordela, hell i emailed herzogs team in germany to figure this out, they replied ans simply said gordela was not available but i also discovered shen biccho anagurelo, and bercaci 2 other songs i found worthwhile, a friend of mine was able to somehow burn it off the internet but now the cd is scratched
@portableversion someone in georgia must have a record of gordela, whoever they are they must get it out and get it in production, get it to amazon , im sure lots of folks would pay good money, i would pay. hearing this got me to research georgia, pbs a few months back had a documentary of a british? firm trying to get the electrical grid modernized, and there was a riot over increased fees and i think they played tsintscaro in the background,
@portableversion yes, I also spent hours trying fruitlessly to find a recording of this version for sale and wrote to a bunch of websites, read hundreds of messageboard posts from people, probably the most frustrating internet search I've ever done. We are very lucky that someone has posted it on Youtube because otherwise it would be impossible. I think you'd have to hire a Georgian private detective to spend a year sleuthing around Georgia to figure this out.
@clemdane ok i searched again went to google and typed in gordella zinzcaro found a "hit" titled 10 degrees of separation towards the bottom it says if your looking for werners version point your nose towards gruzinskie nardnye pesni-ansamble gordella, i googled that and i found a website titled souvenir the largest retail store for sale russian cd's audio tapes and etc. I tinkered with that finally found the home page and called the guy he wants me to send an email, his english is horrible
I first saw this when it was released, it's my favorite movie. And yes this music is in the film. It used to be available on vinyl. A great horror film has tangible atmosphere and suspense, this film is so beautifully photographed, the makeup is fantastic. A beautiful dreamlike nightmare.
@bgrrrlie dude you got a vinyl of gordela!! omg i hope you could get with a music manufacturer and get prodution on cd's, the world needs this and now
Hard to imagine a remake that could be better than Herzog's effort. I think this film is one of the most exquisitely artistic films I have ever seen. It is beautifully shot, the music really enhances the film, and it is highly erotic.
Fantastic! This music is a Georgian folk song called Tsin Tskaro (წინწყარო ahead of the water spring). This one is by an ensemble Gordela. However, the best version is considered to be performed by Rustavi Choir and its vocal Hamlet Gonashvili.
@ReptileMK2000 If you actually think that special effects improve a movie, you're so dead wrong :/ The best horror movies ironically use none or very little special effects. It's just a sign of our times demanding CGI.
@WeHaveExplosive And if ANYONE says Tim Burton I will come to your house and stake you while you sleep, as I dont need to see Johnny Depp as a vampire.
@WeHaveExplosive To be honest, I kind of agree with him. This film needs to be more recognized, and a remake should give back the attention it needs. Of course it will be nearly impossible to find someone who could do as good as Herzog or Murnau, but I think Darren Aronofsky or Matt Reeves would be great possibilities.
@ReptileMK2000 an who's going to out do klaus kinski? wil it be robert pattinson? i don't think we need another nosferatu film, especially since it's in the day of age of twilight
@ReptileMK2000 Why??? 0.0 Why remaking something that is already flawless? Remaking the original Nosferatu was understandable: the add of colour and sound was welcome, but now, I don't see any point in remaking this.
We live in a time where Hollywood in particular is making more and more crap and pointless remakes of Asian and European horror movies. I don't think Nosferatu should remade... there's absolutely no need to.
@ImaginaryVoncroy i totally agree with you. when someone says this "really" needs another remake, then they are suggesting that there is something lacking. or, if not anything lacking, then it just needs to be remade because its so good? either way, some things should just be left alone. it reminds me of one of the remodels of the pantheon, that actually did more damage than good. no one could ever come close to herzog's version.
@ReptileMK2000 this really doesn't need another remake: just rent this one and watch it over and over again: Herzog's film is unimprovable in every respect. Herzog, Kinski, Adjani, Ganz and Tsintsqaro: That's the dream team right there.
This doesn't look like a 1979 film at all! And this is supposed to be a visually faithful remake of a 1922 film?! I guess that just begins to explain how timeless this really is.
@Coxailkopf this music is in the film when Isabelle Adjani walks through the town square where the people are in a crazy mood and dancing, singing and feasting while the plague is upon them
Kate Bush recorded a song called "Hello Earth" that twice quotes this music, sung by an English group. It's more polished than this version. I first heard the choral music from the Kate Bush song as background music in an episode of "Miami Vice" called

Hah, unfortunately not, been looking for that LP/CD for a while now, it's a shame a complete soundtrack for the film isn't available, not just the Popol Vuh stuff.
this is from the scene when lucy is movin through the town square when all te townsfolk are just cavorting and partying with all the rats everywhere - acceptance of the plague and death ? totally spellbinding
Fantastic! This music is a Georgian folk song called Tsin Tskaro (წინწყარო ahead of the water spring). This one is by an ensemble Gordela. However, the best version is considered to be performed by Rustavi Choir and its vocal Hamlet Gonashvili.

Fantastic - some of the most moving images I remember from Herzog.
Did you manage to get one of the unbelievably rare albums of folk songs with Zinskaro on? Well done if so :)

Thanks!
Hah, unfortunately not, been looking for that LP/CD for a while now, it's a shame a complete soundtrack for the film isn't available, not just the Popol Vuh stuff.

Fantastic! This music is a Georgian folk song called Tsin Tskaro (წინწყარო ahead of the water spring). This one is by an ensemble Gordela. However, the best version is considered to be performed by Rustavi Choir and its vocal Hamlet Gonashvili.

@WeHaveExplosive there are a bunch of versions available - not the exact recording, but close:
Iveria: Songs from the Republic of Georgia (iveria.org/recordings.html) It looks ropey but I ordered from this site and received no problem.
Also the late Hamlet Gonashvili's 2010 self titled album contains this track (available on Amazon)

@WeHaveExplosive I have the same problem. There are songs for Aguirre, and Nosferatu that I wanna get, and just aren't on the soundtracks.
