On motors without oilers I have found that Cooper Tools angle gear grease works extremely well. It is available from most people who sell Dotco air tools, and the part number is 45-0980.
be sure to use 20w non detergent oil for the bearings. thats what is most widely reccomended. also i like to use white lithium grease in the oscillator.
Thanks for the tip, I was not aware the oil in the cup is recycled and requires annual replacement. I recently restored an early Marelli with external oscillator shaft and the fan runs great!
yes the oil can return to the oil cup and the gunk it brings back with it can plug up your wick just like an oil filter in your car. its not a constant flow of oil as if you have an oil pump in the bearings, but the excess oil used from lubricating the shaft travels back through drainage passageways back into the oil cup. make sure they arent blocked so your bearings get good lubrication. glad i could help.
Thank you very much! This will be very helpful. =D In the event that I can't get the front oil cup to unscrew, what should I use to help loosen it? (not sure if i should just take the pliers to it or not!)
it should have a slot for a screw driver under it if not wrap a rubber gripper aound it and loosen it with pliers and then you can un screw it with your fingers from there! just finger tighten it when reinstalling! it wont go anywhere!
actually we already had the john deere grease long before we ever had any john deere's. my dad got it to fix our always dieing pos now rusting in a scrap yard dryer!
no the dryer was old ansd dying. so we had to open it up like every month to grease the bearings. the dryer was shot. thats why we scrapped it it was dead
i use eagle one original NEVR-DULL. i would not use a buffer in fear of bending the blades, however if you can get a miniture buffer wheel that fits a dremel that may work well. sometimes i use wenol all purpose metal polish. either way you choose youll need to give the blades a little elbo-grease! good luck!
i made this video for jamasonsworld after convincing him to video his old ge fan. way to go jamason! if you read this and find your ge works better than a new fan you may have started yet another hobbie. your welcome to join the fan collectors as i did we look forward to new fan videos of antique or vintage fans. this is only one of my hobbies as my channel shows:}
thats pretty much what it is. but i bleed green and happend to have john deere multi purpose grease it seems to work great. it should i am using the top end grease. nothing but the best for my old fans!!
I might have a stupid question, but how do you remove the oil wick from the cup?

I was wondering how to oil my Vortalex as well as what that cup was behind the blade!
Thanks for the info! I'll make sure the oil gets changed out and the oscillator grease is OK before the summer season.

That grease looks like LubriPlate, which I use on my fans. It's a general purpose lithium type grease.
