The Film reminds me of the many times I have walked my rough collies across Dartmoor and the Lake District they are the best companions you can ever have .so loyal ,loving and intelligent . I love this film it makes me get all emotional about the good times we have had together . In my top 10 films of all time .
oh i thought it was going to be the same Lassie from the TV show. Ya know, with Timmy . It's not the same thing but still a good movie. really good, actually.
as a black man, I liked the movie. That's saying a lot. I'm black so I know. Peace yall
@PulpPractical That's because this movie was adapted from the original 1940 book, LASSIE COME HOME, written by Eric Knight (which inspired the 1943 film of the same name starring a young Roddy McDowall). The book did not have Timmy, who was made up for the American-set 1950s LASSIE TV show, which only used the dog, but not the story (which was set in Scotland).
Really? Thats pretty cool. Like that is SICK! not even kidding.
So wait, are you saying that there was MORE than one Lassie in the original film? Cause I know that in new dog movies like Winn Dixie used different dogs, bt I thought that back then, they'd keep it authentic, you know? and has your old collie had any puppies lol to pass on the "Lassie" genes? lol I'd buy one of your puppies if you did haha
@nddlj Yup, 'Lassie' was a whole breeding line of dogs, all male, incidentally, because males are more 'typey' (more typical of the breed), so there were quite a number of Lassies.
We watched this film on DVD, it was lovely, sad and a great story. The little boy was such a natural and of course the dogs are fabulous, highly recommended. Have a box of tissues at the ready.....
Heart warming and moving adventure indeed. Who cares that it's so obviously Dublin standing in for Glasgow. It's a great film. Nicholas Lyndhurst's status as one of the UK's best loved actors has probably slipped a bit after this film.

@Harrymarb To be fair, it's pretty hard to see the, as you call it, 'thing' on a Rough Collie.

There are two stories that this story came from.
One is about a Collie named Old Shep who's owner died and was sent back to where he was born to be buried. Shep was left behind.
Shep waited at the train tracks for his master until he passed away, there is a statue dedicated to him.
Then there is a story about a collie who got lost on a vacation and walked 3,000 to get back home to his owners :)
