No. Microsoft said that you will definitely not be able to upgrade from the beta or the RC to the final version.

Upgrade != Install

You will have to format your hdd once again, deleting your Win7 RC and all your data to get a clean hdd where you can install the final version.

Usually you just could *upgrade*, keeping your data. But this time you will have to do a whole reinstall.

It's not the game that won't work with windows 7 it's the anti hack program that might not work. So make sure it allows you to play on it.

windows 7 is already standard on direct x 10. It doesn't affect anything. You can even go down to direct x 8 if you want.

For whatever reason, when I use it one Windows 7, L4D is stupidly dark, even with brightness and gamma cranked up. I know it's not my drivers, Hitman: Blood Money runs great on my system, no color/brightness problems at all. I guess it's just another bug. Lame

It's probably your monitor or your drivers because L4D looks the same as it was on xp and vista.  Well for me.

I wish that was the case, but Half Life 2 (all episodes), Hitman:Blood Money and CS:S all run perfectly, no brightness problems at all. It only happens in Left 4 Dead. I tried forcing DX9, but no luck. I put in a ticket on steam support, so we'll see what they say. :| It was fine on XP, but on 7(for me), it starts out perfect brightness, then slowly darkens until you can't see crap. The L4D graphics are taunting me!

Right click the process for the game in task manager and set the affinity to run on 1 core. Will probably stop then.

i have a pritty old spec machine, AMD 4000+ 2.4ghtz, 7800 gtx graphics and a gig of ram, and Creative X-fi

Left for Dead plays mint on XP, wapped Windows 7 64-bit on it, and it plays obizmol seriously its like 20fps or less. this is Windows 7 build 7000. I updated drivers for Nvidia and Creative Sound card, and not much luck :s

This isn't the beta, this is the pre-beta build. IMO, the newer beta 7000 build is more stable than this and plays almost anything XP can play.

nice vid. i noticed your taskbar icons actually expand when that program is running. with my version of windows 7 (build 7000), they do not expand. is there an option to make them expand to the tradition taskbar size or was it scrapped in the new version for less screen clutter down there.

you can change it in your properties. Just right click on the taskbar, and goto properties then button grouping: Group when taskbar is full

I say 95 percent compatible for the alpha release. They revamped their coding so it's different. But so far only programs that hasn't worked for me was daemon tools, and anything passed nero 7. I had to also downgrade my skype to 3.1 to get it to work. I wouldn't recommend this to make it your main until beta comes out in january.

Windows 7 is the new operating system coming out in 2-3 years from now. It's still in alpha release, but it's the most stable alpha release MS has ever put out. It was codenamed Blackcomb then to Vienna, and now 7

Also I just made the background black, and had no window border on the game settings.

*Windows 7 takes 50 percent less resources then vista so you can run it off an eepc at 1 ghz with 512 ram.
