  • Incredible song writing! Blondie was like a punky Abba, which is a compliment because her song writing and band were so good, as was Abba's. Blondie was a super hottie Too!!

  • I thought that it should've been number one here in America.

It's true; she's a baby boomer, a war baby, and a lot of their fans weren't.

It does it for me, I really like the track.

  • I've always thought that it should have been a number one in America and many places else. It's true: she's a baby boomer and a lot of her friends were not:

It's certainly a favorite of mine.

  • in 1982 Blondie make this song that is everything Garbage ever dream of...

  • this song doesn't say anything to me

  • @neagu8 i told your mom to do the same :)

  • Easily the most under-appreciated Blondie song, IMO.

  • This was one of the worst times for Blondie. I mean this record sold like 40,000 copies when it came out. Chris was deathly ill. Debbie walkin away to be there for her partner is amazing. Their new album is brilliant. It's only available online. Court issues..Just let them release the record!

  • @rimbaudboy what exactly is the "court issue" on the new album?

  • One of the very best Albums that was ever released and such a wonderful track wtg Chris and Debbie.......come back soon with more reat track and maybe a UK tour

  • Debbie Harry and Blodie at their very best and one if not the best Album that was ever released and as for Warchild, it should of made the top 3 in every country......If you're reading this then you're a fan :)

  • Love this album completely.........

  • I always felt this album was VERY under appreciated. GREAT album.

  • blondie started it all, they are the band for me, that started making diverse songs within an album, one song is totally so different from another. Creativity rocks.

  • I've seen Stein play lead on a few videos, such as the Musicladen shows. He is a better player than people are claiming, and he was also a good bass player. And he was one of the three most important songwriters in the band with Harry and Destri.

  • super!

  • This is such an iconic picture

  • @AmberMusicUk Every picture of Deborah is iconic. : )

  • @minglifoo33 stein is an aweful musician? he is the one who wrote the music for more than a half of their material!

  • @minglifoo33 Actually, I have seen them live several times and can confirm this is utter nonsense. He is a rhythm guitarist wheras as Frank was a lead guitarist. You say he pantomimes, but don't musicians tend to play to the same rhythm?

  • @minglifoo33 Chris Stein wrote the music to most of Blondie's best songs! If you're watching this clip then I assume you are at least somewhat of a blondie fan and you are one because of their music so you are obviously contradicting yourself!

  • It's simple they couldn't kick their addictions and thus couldn't perform.

  • Nigel Harrison, the bassist for Blondie, was actually a good songwriter. He co-wrote this with Deborah Harry. He also co-wrote 'One Way Or Another' with Harry, one of their most popular songs. So why on earth did Chris Stein have to kick Harrison and Frank Infante out when they reformed in '97? It is such a shame. I realize Stein doesn't like either of them, but you'd think there'd be some way to work things out.

  • @ShelterDogs I'm still myself very curious about the whole Infante/Harrison deal with the group and maybe some day we will all know what really happened because I don't think it has been properly explained as to why they were kicked out of the band.

  • This song ROCKS...plain and simple

  • The Hunter LP would have done better if this was the first single and not "Island of Lost Souls".

  • I think it's got simply to do with this song being -politically - against the mood of the times;1982, Reagan, neo-cons, Cold War hotter than ever, Beirut, and Rambo fighting the commies somewhere in Hollywood.

No place for "PLO lovers", "warchild", "west bank blues" or "Khmer rouge". It got silenced.

  • Definitely. There was something political going on here. AIPAC?

  • @Sky1green What was wrong with Reagan?

  • blondie fans are great - i get so many perspectives i never considered. and not on debbie's looks or what she wears - on their songs, and their subject matter. ive been a fan for, lets see, just over 30 years, so the songs are so commonplace to me and i take them for granted, i guess.

  • Thanks for posting this! I have been a fan of Blondie for years. Just wish I could have heard this when it was made. Anything that speaks to the futility & stupidity of war and how it affects people without being simply a war protest song, all of which this does, is really music to my ears! I served 9 years on active duty in the US Army, half of which was during the Vietnam War, and my late brother was a Vietnam veteran. I really think he'd have enjoyed this song!

  • This band was quite politically involved through their music! They named their album "autoamerican" to support the american auto industry (not making this up), Debbie Harry gave a little anti-nuclear speech during their televised Midnight Special appearance and of course their anti-war message on this song.

  • Not that I need another reason to like Blondie, but if I did this would do!

  • clarification on 'auto-american': wasnt that the title of the album because it was ambient to the feel of the songs? cars, the dense urban jungle....?

i never heard that name was chosen to 'support' the auto industry.

    go GM! :)

  • Maybe I overstated their reason of naming the album "autoamerican" in regards to the american auto industry but I do recall reading in Making Tracks or another bio book that they mentioned the failing american auto industry that was happening in 1980 and the title was considered in support of that. I think what you've written is true and maybe what I've read was an afterthought for them but probably not the main reason. Thanks for clarifying that.

  • no problem...now, lets analyze the title of the awesome prior album: EAT TO THE BEAT....haha. doing that may be an all-nighter requiring several pizzas and a ton of caffeine. :)

  • I was a war child once :)

  • saw her live 1991 she was amazing!! When she did this everyone went off! BORING MUSIC WAS THE CURSE OF THOSE times Tell me

  • the music is still very weak compared to the vocals i think you will find :)

  • Deeproad2 - thanks for uploading this - one of Blondie's best!

  • i used to work as a clerk @ a gas station, one of my customers grabbed my cassette sleeve and mumbled, "The Hunter. Hmmmm..." for some reason I remember that. and thinking WHY WAS THIS SONG NOT A HIT WHATSOEVER? Not even in the top 40 as far as i know.

  • There was some mad theory that it was because they released it at the time the Falklands War began, so it was not played on the radio! I agree, it is so much better than the dreadful ISLAND OF LOST SOULS and should have been the lead single and a massive hit!

  • I agree !!

  • Deserves a lot more recognition than it got at the time. still, there's something about the fact it didn't become a hit that makes it more interesting

  • I think if Blondie would have put this song out first instead of island of lost souls it would have be played on the radio more than islands, which I only heard that song 2 times when it was released...

  • clean your ears out and listen !

  • Indeed the Curse of Blondie - some kind Voodooo with DH , she propelled herslf into super stardom but fell short each time with her solo hist, yet like the Hunter brilliant work. Off the Hunter for your Eyes only should have been teh Theme song to the James Bond Movie.....Sheena Easton lasted 5 minutes with her version!

  • This is such a great song, it's inexplicable that it wasn't more of a hit.

  • What a cool tune from Blondie!

  • wow-- from the comments, i see heres the lonely corner where the TRUE blondie fans reside. appreciation for "the hunter"? no pansy "sunday girl" or "denis" people here!

i suspect you weirdos like 'cautious lip' and 'victor' as well!? ( i love them both when the mood for those songs hits).

  • I actually hate denis and sunday girl. An yes, I love cautious lip, victor, youth nabbed as sniper, fade away and radiate, etc

  • I love this song, I don't understand why it wasn't a hit.

  • This is my favorite Blondie song...this should have been the first single released from "The Hunter" and would have been a huge hit. This song is similar to "Eye of the tiger" from Survivor....same style, same year. "War child" was full of hit potential....it's just too bad. "The Hunter" is also my favorite Blondie album.

  • This is my second favorite Blondie song after "Call Me". The Hunter is vastly underrated -- I think it's one of their best albums!

  • my fav is Autoamerican, although someone consider it the real first solo D.Harry album, cause the band is really behind her, and she play with other musicians too, signed as "optional features" in credits...a lot of people!Plastic Letters is great!like all their albums, maybe the last is not the top...what do you think?

  • one of the best song from The Hunter cd!

  • yeah, though of all of their cover art the hunter is by far the worst.

    Plastic letters is my favorite.
