k i know EXACTLY whats wrong. check out the volume control on the left side, i bet you anything that its jammed into the side of the ipod. this happens when you put a case on it the wrong way..most likely one of those 15$ tight walmart ipod touch cases. i had the exact same problem and had to get a new ipod :*(

coz i have the same problem but only in settings. Meanwhile when I play music, there is no volume bar show and no sound. My iPod is jailbroken but that cant be the sause because I jailbroke it a long time ago. I tried rebooting and switching it off but no luck.

use a blow dryer near the increase volume button and see if that helps there may be water in it or blow in the small opening between the screen and buttons

hey my ipod is fixed i just had to keep off for 48 hrs and not use it and when i use it i keep my head phones in and it works fine. my screen work even btr then b4 ! my dad also put it in rice while i wuz at school. i hope this helps !

Dre, fuckin eh man. But the problem I'm havin is the volume up and power button seemed to have merged, as in they are the same button for the same function push voulme up, power (screen light) off, if I hold down the screen off button, volume goes up, even if I tap it once to turn screen off it goes up one notch volume. WTF eh?

@maariahproductionz The squares may not move, but the volume changes. Make sure you use the slider to change the volume in the pop out tab. Change the song, and then go back to the music app and try. Idk if this works for OS 4.0

For 3G Touch 3.1.2 This is what I do(always works for me), leave the song playing, go to your home page(where your apps are), raise/lower the volume using the buttons on the side of the iPod(I usually raise it or lower it by 3), quickly double tap the home button so that it gives you the option to change the song, hit "next", then change it back to the previous song in that same panel, go back into the music app page where the song is playing, and then try adjusting the volume using the slider.

If you can't be bothered or don't want to turn off / reset, just go to the home screen and double tap the the home button and it brings up a music menu which allowed me to adjust volume even tough it is still stuck on the music app. Worked for my ipod touch 1st gen.

its a software problem to fix it press and hold the home button and the power button at the same time when the silde to power off button shows just ignore it keep holding the two buttons till is shuts off and dont let go till the apple logo appears and doing this reset will take quite a bit longer to turn on dont worrie it will turn on

This happened to me today! Anyways, to fix it:

1. Hold the Power and Home button for 5 seconds until you see the "Slide To Power Off" bar.

2. Slide it and turn it off.

3. Hold the power to turn it on again and it should fix it!

just hold down the top sleep button to shut the unit off. Totally off. Power down. Then power back up and it should be fine. No need to do hard resets for restores.

There are 2 possible solutions to this problem: restart the iPod, or synchronize with iTunes .... another half solution is locking the iPod and double pressing de main button to see the volumen control (it wont fix the problem)

I fixed this problem on my iPod using SSH, a program provided through cydia. Go into SSH and stop the music process. Then go into your music folder and play something... Efectively this restarts the process, eliminating the glitch. Thank god for jailbreak...
