Had to look these guys up due to opening for the Opeth/Mastodon tour. There are elements of this that I like - reminiscent of stuff like BOC and heavier Uriah Heep, but the whole "dress up in Catholic papal robes and singing Satanic lyrics" schtick is unfortunately pretty limiting IMO.

I love the whole gimmick they have going on, but the music is lackluster and the vocals are laughable. I honestly thought Ghost was a joke and they were taking the piss outta the whole black metal genre, but apparently not. I'm with NeonRabbit, This Is Spinal Tap. I was waiting for the mini Stonehenge to be lowered from the top of the stage. Smell The Glove. If you have no idea what I'm talking about, go watch Spinal Tap. As for old school black metal, I think i'll stick with Coven.

This is what I used to love and crave about hard rock/heavy metal music and live shows. A SPECTACLE!! Complete with blasphemy and religious mockery. You know, I really like Ghost for its whole concept. That's a very rare thing. you can count very few bands which have such a complete "package" to offer. By that I mean: good songs (not impressive, but still good), very nice concept (the idea of going back to the 70's thing), good lyrics (mocking the catholics in Italian is so fantastic!!!), awesome visual, and awesome live performance. That's why I like Ghost so much.
