It's great to see Chuck so young in this video. I saw him last when he played in Warsaw, and he looked really old... But still, as soon as he took his flugelhorn in hand, he instantly became young again :)
This is nice... but the YouTube presentation by "Wally1435" (4:13) from Esther Satterfield's own album (with the complete lyrics) is a heartfelt classic, IMHO greater in every aspect. It is the difference between mere come-and-go entertainment, and something that stays with you evermore. I credit Chuck with a liberating composition, but Satterfield's voice brings out the poetic magic.
hello..there was another version of this song. also with a singer, but i forgot his name.....i heard that on my dad's old (cassette tape) album, The Best of Chuck Mangione...can someone please post it here...i think that version is a lot better..=)

It just occured to me the vocal similarities of Marilyn and Esther Satterfield (original singer for this song) but both versions are quite nice. I have met Marilyn and she is a lovely person as well as beautiful and talented.
@jlunger I agree! When this first started I was thinking that she was lip sinking to Esthers voice, haha. She did a beautiful job! This has always been one of my favorite Mangione tunes. It brings me way back to the mid 70's when I first started listening to his music.
Dorycpt - it seems to be playing now. Sometimes YouTube just misbehaves. Thanks for all the nice comments. Hope you enjoy Chase the Clouds Away... it's really beautiful!
Would you please pump-up the volume of this vid? This is too awesome having Chuck and Marilyn all at once. Too bad I was galivanting around the country doing my activ\tvist thing and missed-out on this.
Just a truly great performance. Chuck was at his best! I met him in Akron, Ohio in 2002 at the Tangier. He was so kind and gracious, taking time for autographs and photographs in between the 2 shows. He only wanted to get back to his dressing room to watch, of all things, the Olympics!
This has to be the best rendition of this song I have ever heard! Sorry Rob Mathes, Esther Satterfield, Don Potter....Marilyn seems the "perfect fit" on vocals for this composition! Simply Beautiful!!!!
What a HUGE FIND !! Gotta LOVE when Marilyn gets to perform with talent like CHUCK MANGIONE .. U can tell how much she just LOVES singing with him .. Thnx as always for another video McCooFan !!
This clip is a little bit of heaven! One of my favorite things about interviewing Marilyn through the years is waiting for that moment when she so genuinely exclaims "Oh, I LOVED that!" when the topic turns to a particularly memorable recording, performance or collaboration...and here that feeling of her "artist's pure joy" is captured beautifully! With Appreciation & Blessings from your friends at "Forever 5th Dimension."
This was an amazing Video. I have never seen Chuck Play his flugelhorn on this song. It is usually a flute solo, and not a flugelhorn solo. Chuck usually sticks to his electric piano on this song.
Oh, this is *extra*-good --- Marilyn *and* Chuck! I'm a big Mangione guy, too, from years in band in school. Chuck's charts are very popular with that crowd, especially those of us who are drum-and-bugle-corps-ish.
we played this in our jazz band... nowhere near as good as he is

his music touches the sky and reaches the inner reaches of our soul-- fantastic, awesome words to describe a tremdous artist

Sublime...they are so together --especially in the ending, the voice and the horn are so tuned, it's just too fine for words to say --

what a fantastic and memorable song...I first heard this at a symphony pops concert (and played as a violinist in the orchestra) @ 1981.
Been a Mangione fan ever since....
Great stuff...!

I didn't know they did this with vocals. Two of my dad's absolute favorite performers in one performance... stunning!!!

Somehow, I cant get this one...Chase the Clouds Away" to load and play. The screen repeatedly says "An error has occurred. Please try again".
Could you please reload it. It's one of my favorites. Fortunately the rest seem to play.
