  • My Beretta Px4 Storm ate these with no issues...she has never let me down

  • Can H&K USP handle it?

  • @ftra1987 USP can handle anything.

  • Damn thing is like a black talon....or is.

  • hi my names jhon and do you know what i have the same gun ive watched all your videos and i have every gun you have

  • Excellent informational video. I have the same pistol with the same ammo as shown here and it is great ammo. I also purchased my ammo online but admittedly it's been some time now since looking for it online again.

  • please do a Winchester Ranger 9mm +P+ 127 grain SXT simtest!

  • I know of 1 of these exact same Rngr +p+ that went through a hair dyier and then went through two sheets of drywall and failed to penetrate a sheet of cardboard on the back side of the 2nd sheet of drywall. But once that bullet opened up in the hair dryer and then hit the first layer of drywall it's velocity probably was nearly spent. Just for all those worried about home defense shooting through your own house into your neighbors house. Might happen in an apartment, but not house to house.

  • The ranger is the same bullet as the black talon, with the sharp petals. They just renamed the bullet and took the black coat off of it because of all the media hype on how "deadly" they are.. lol

  • @usarmyfl1 You forgot to mention they changed the marketing as well and labeled them as "Law Enforcement" Only. Try going to your local sporting good store and asking if they carry Winchester Ranger +p+. It's Damn hard to find. I bought 1 box but had to settle on a bunch of Boxes of Federal +p+ which is nothing like this Ranger stuff.

  • Thanks for taking a look at this round and sharing your results. I have found a place to buy this ammo and plan on picking up a few boxes.

  • Is it okay to use this hot load in a Glock 17 as a house gun? A Glock can take this high pressure ammo without a problem. I'm gonna subscribe to your channel because I enjoy your videos on different types of ammo so keep the videos coming. Thanks.

  • What is the newest version of this round?

  • As I pickd up a Glock 19 a couple of months ago, How is the accuracy with this load out of your Glock 19?

Do you have 357SIG capability yet ?

  • sxt and t series are slightly different, found better results with t series

  • Is it going to wear a gun out sooner?

  • TNOUTDOORS, were you able to find out if this Ranger SXT ammo is same as Ranger T? I found a pretty good deal on .380 Ranger SXT and wondering if its the same stuff you used to do the SIM testing with Ranger T in 380acp? Let me know Thanks

  • Would that type of pressurization be okay w/a Beretta 92s?

  • @cosmicdingo

    No.

  • Does anyone now if this ammo can be used in a sr9c?

  • I have to say I love your video. I know it's kinda old but I bought in 2009 50 rounds of Winchester Ranger +p+ 115GR Jacketed HP. The serial number on this box is RA9115HP+, the shop where I bought the box from had it under the counter for Law Enforcement/Corrections/Security Personal only.

  • I was just curious, what causes the "hooks" in the expansion? Is it the +P+ design, or is it just the design of the Winchester Ranger cartridge itself?

  • @armenianesh818 The bullet is designed to expand that way. The excessive pressure has nothing to do with it. These are supposed to be just like the old Black Talon rounds that received so much bad press back in the day. As you know, when you paint a bullet black, it becomes an armor piercing, incendiary, explosive, heat seeking, laser guided, cop killing, baby raping, bank robbing, gov't overthrowing, president assassinating, serial killing, round. Take away the black and BAM. Instantly better!

  • Seems as if the gold dot regular +p is better

  • johnny gee, this round is NOT LIMETED TO LEO ONLY. that is wincheesters rule not the law, you can get them, as i just hit the left click to order 3 boxes. also the bullet that was "cop killer" was the black talon, which is the SameXactThing as the SXT. get it. now, you can spend 25 bucks a box for a box of 20 PDX1 9mm's or 23.97 for a 50 round box of Ranger T or SXT which are the same bullet only in less fancy packaging, and it is the same bullet from the black talon, sxt to pdx1

  • ahhhhh stop smacking yur lips ahhhhhhhhhhhhh great video thu

  • The pressure spec says 42,000 CUP. You wrote 42,000 psi. Derp.

  • This round (according to Winchester) was removed from the market in 2001; replaced as you said with the Ranger T-Series, 9mm, 127 grain, JHP. According to Winchester, the new series is rated at the same velocity as the old +p+ SXT round (1250 ft/s). It is a LE-only round not available to the GP. It is able to defeat some Level IIIA soft body armor and has thus gained the media moniker "cop killer" round. (There are SBA models rated to stop this round.)

  • I did a water expansion with these 9mm +p+ rounds in a 5 gallon jug it made it to the 3rd jug and the round fragmented, the first jug completely exploded! We shot a 45 Ranger T into 5 jugs and it made it the same distance as the ranger 9mm +p+ i had.

  • Good video but I doubt it Chronos what is advertised.

  • The Constitution of The United States Republic is Supreme Law of the Land.

  • should i shoot this in my hipoint?

  • thanks for the vids. keep it up.

  • you sound a lot like survivalistboards. good video.

  • Very nice video please make more!

  • wow ... that is a hot load... good review... twice the psi of 45 acp.

  • T's and SXT's are not the same bullet. Winchester slightly modified the T series jacket (slightly heavier) to try and lock the "talons" out at 90 degrees more consistently.

This from the Winchester rep at a law enforcement Ballistics Workshop.

  • will you please test the winchester .223 super short mag with winchester super short mag .55 grain bullets with silver ballist tip

  • I live on Winchester st

  • TESTING THIS WITH DENIM, LATE NOV., EARLY DEC. 2010.

  • @tnoutdoors9 hey how about testing a winchester super X 38 super auto +P,125 GR. silvertip HP?? there is no a single video on that kind of bullet here in Youtube ....i understand its like a 9mm pushed to the extreme and that would be something nice to see around here.

  • Excellent video! I have a question. How does the recoil on this +P+ ammo compare to a 40 S&W? Is it similar considering the 9mm is +P+? I ask because I am thinking about purchasing a Glock 19 to pair up with my Glock 22.

    Thanks!

  • @MisterPo

I found this recoil to be sharper. My point of comparison is a Glock 19 compared to shooting something warm in a Glock 22. Different size frames, but the +P+ is stouter, IMO.

  • @tnoutdoors9

I need you opinion on a carry round. Would you chose this round, the HST or the HST +P?

I am leaning towards the HST because of reports this round fails to expand often although based on this video, Id say it performs beautifully.

    You thoughts would be appreciated.

  • OMG would you quit smacking your lips. its so annoying that i cannot find any of your information useful. Quit smacking like a 2 year old Jesus!

  • @brannancloward

OMG could you be more of a fucker? Jesus. The guy is doing free ammo reviews to help us pick good loads.

  • Great info thank you

  • dude, i have looked everywhere, where do you get +P+?

  • @joejeep03

Online at best. I never see this in the gun stores.

  • @tnoutdoors9 what do you mean by hot load..im still new to this..tahnks for feedbac

  • @joejeep03 I just picked up some at the gun show. One table had them for $55 the other $25, I'm sure you can figure out which ones I went w/!!

  • It just says for Law Enforcement because Winchester wont sell it to the public. Would a S&W M&P 9mm handle this?

  • can my p226 take this??

  • @warfreak135135

Sig? I would confirm by calling their support staff.

  • @tnoutdoors9 I use it in my P226. I am also using a steel guide rod with a Wolff extra power recoil spring. The only problem I've encountered is that sometimes the wimpy range ammo won't lock the slide back on an empty mag. But with +P ammo, it is perfect.

  • @warfreak135135 Yes it's fine for P226 or other classic 9mm Sig's. I don't know about the P250 or Pro's though.

  • Thanks! Now I know which round to carry if Im ever attacked by a crazed PCP guy, a crackhead, or the evil Plastic Juggzor.

  • The psi comparison chart is great. Where exactly on winchesters website did you find this? Also do you do these tests with 38. special? I ask because i own one :) Its a 5 shot +p rated rossi. 3inch barrel.

  • @unlitdarkness6

That was so long ago, but I'm thinking it was on their Law Enforcement site. I plan to buy a .357 at some point for testing those and .38's.

  • @tnoutdoors9 .357 Sig? We need a test on the .357 Federal Tactical Bonded rds!

  • @tnoutdoors9

Hi there, is there any chance that you will repeat this test using 4 layers of denim? This is my carry round and I many decide to stop carrying it if it plugs with clothing.

  • since it says for law enforcement only even though it shouldnt be a problem, wouldnt that be a major clusterfuck in court if you do use it?

  • @Choncho203

Search online for some comments from Massad Ayoob. He testifies in alot of court cases and has some good info to share on the topic. To be honest, anytime you are involved in a shooting, even justified, today's court system is still a big CF.

  • aftermarket barrel? I know glocks arent fully supported and may have issues with +p+

  • I've been wondering what the "quietest" round to shoot out of a 9mm with a YHM suppressor on it. The subsonic rounds are pretty quiet, but I was wondering if there is anything else out there. Thanks

  • Hey buddy. Awesome video. I'm new to the ranger 127 gr sxt +p+ loads. It should function fine in a glock 17 right? I see a comment before mine asked the similar question but I just wanna make sure. Any info would be appreciated. Thank you.

  • yes, the earlier ranger "t series " had a deeper and wider hollow point cavity...but those boxes don't say "t series" on them only the part # is the same with the later stuff....i have shot both into gel, there was no real difference in expansion...

  • Buy youself a set of calipers, they're not expensive, gives you an accurate measurement of expansion. Using a ruler is completely inaccurate.

  • i like the 115+p DPX myself man that round rocks.

  • sxt is the 2nd gen of the talon. ranger t-series is the 3rd gen of the talon redisigned for 10% more expansion.

  • If i moved to the states i would be a concealed carrier for sure....and this would be my load.....

  • @gshdrums I have heard that in Australia, even a lawful gun owner would violate the law if they defended themself against a violent attack by shooting the attacker. No self defense against being killed allowed by law. You just have to submit and let the attacker kill you. Does that just about sum it up?

  • @Delticola its equal force, so if someone comes into your house with a knife and i get out my 22/45 and load em up im in big trouble yeh. If they brake in with nothing in there hands and i hit them in the head with a fry pan....Im in trouble. Rediculous. Theres ALOT of home invasions over here lately though, with people getting beaten up and raped. I have 2 mags loaded up with on my 22/45 Pistol incase someone trys anything. If there in my house and turn at me with a knife. There gonna get one.

  • @gshdrums Someone should really get together with some legislature folks and get some better laws on the books. If two or three guys bust in with knives, all you can do is fight all three of them with a knife? You guys need to organize and get the legislature to change the self defense laws. Equal Force should not apply once a weapon is involved or multiple assailants. If it's one assailant then equal force where no weapons are involved is adequate.

  • would you think this bullet will work well with a Ruger SR9?

  • @kamakazee2bird

I've never tried this in Ruger, or seen anyone use it. Invest in a box or two and try slow and rapid fire.

  • @kamakazee2bird Hey buddy, i own an sr9 and this is my primary carry load. The sr9 is fully capable of handling +p+ loadings. Ive even shot the hot 147 +p+ loadings from buffalo bore and my sr9 ate it up no problem. I've even called ruger and they confirmed that the gun is capable of handling +p+ loads. Hope this helps you. Take care

  • @kamakazee2bird They will work just fine in the SR9 per the ruger manual! I use them in mine at the range just fine!

  • @kamakazee2bird Just stick to +P for that gun would be my advice.

  • Good video. I just picked up a box of 50 at a gun show for only $30. The box says 40,000 psi however. I have seen T-series at Cabela's, but not in +P+. Looks like a great round, can't wait to test it out.

  • TN, How do you think this round would react (better or worse) from a Glock 17?

  • @jeffmoline

Probably another 25-35 FPS velocity, similar penetration/expansion properties.

  • Very thorough. Thanks for sharing. I also carry the same load in my G19.

  • My summer conceal carry is a 3 inch barrel 9 mm. Any suggestions on 9mm ammo for a 3 inch barrel?

Right now I would go with Speer Gold Dot 124 Grain +P, I don't think my 3 inch barrel takes advantage of the +p velocity. I don't know if expansion is affected by the shorter barrel.

  • @frankgon4 you certainly want to stay with a +p round out of a 3 inch barrel IMO. The 124 +p gold dot would be a pretty good choice, a better one would probably be its gold dot "short barrel" counterpart as they are designed to expand at lower velocities, corbon 115 gr +p DPX might also work pretty well and this round also if your gun can handle it

  • @frankgon4

Actually, you should still be getting 1150 FPS or so from the 3" barrel. I was getting slightly more than that with my 3.5" Glock 26, when I owned one. The Gold Dot was my carry round in that gun.

  • for some reason this round makes my generation 2 glock 17 act like isnt anything in the clip and the slide will stay the back position every 1 outta ten shots I have done some mods to this gun so the spring might be the problem for this perticular round as the winchester FMJ never does that no madder how many I shoot outta it weird huh?

  • @ledman55 you are probably riding the slide release with your thumb if you're using a high grip and also ( I cant help it) your glock uses a magazine

  • @AnarchAngel1 LMAO nice try mr rocket scientist but no Im not locking the gun back myself and I have no idea what u mean by that last part I have a 30 round clip

  • @ledman55 Im just trying to help and NO your glock uses a detachable box MAGAZINE not a clip no rocket scientist but smarter than you i guess

  • @AnarchAngel1 Wow you must think you know it all you ask me a dumb ass question and then you reply trying to correct my english get outta here

  • @ledman55 people as ignorant as you probably shouldn't even own a gun. You are the one who asked a dumb question I was simply trying to help since you are obviously a novice and don't realize you are causing the problem, not the round you are firing. A magazine and clip are two different things, I'm not correcting your "english" although you could use alot of corrections in that area. Look it up and shut your mouth.

  • @AnarchAngel1 acctually the round was making my glock malfunction but im sure you know better shut the fuck up bitch

  • I own a Springfield XD-9.

I purchased the handgun for home defense, would this round be right for me?

    Also, great video!

    Thanks!

  • @ScottHammond

As long as you can stay on target with the recoil, follow up shots, etc.

  • Great video, Thanks for this info. Do you believe my Sig p228 will handle this ammo?

  • @sprucewood57 mine seems to handle it ok but i wouldnt shoot too much of it, i shot about 150 rounds or so through my 228 just to make sure it worked well in that particular pistol with no ill effects but i dont like the idea of beating my nice sig to death so I leave this round mostly for my glocks

  • @sprucewood57

I would feel good with that. I've shot the Sig P228 and felt it was solid.

  • Thanks for these videos; very educational. Keep up the great work!

  • Where can I get more of this stuff? They are the most impressive round "overall" that I've shot. Worth every penny. Unfortunately I lost a little hearing in my right ear because I thought one shot without ear protection wouldn't hurt.

  • if no one has pointed it out yet the new "t" series is a different bullet than the sxt i have some boxes of both, the older sxt seems to be a little bit more robust of an expander(in 9mm) than the new round i actually like the old one a little better

  • very educational, thank you.

  • Great Video Sir! I carry nothin but SXT in 45acp 9mm 357sig and 380acp.You cant beat this round for self defense.God Bless Texas!

  • You are officially the man with these ammo tests. I carry the Speer Gold dot .9mm 124gr +p, in my glock 19 after watching your vids. After I recently came across some Winchester Ranger 127gr +p+ for sale, I did a search for an ammo test on this ammo and bam, so excited to see that it's here. Thanks tnoutdoors9, also its awesome you got to go shoot with Nutnfancy. Keep up the good vids!

  • One nasty 9mm bullet :)

  • anyone know if a sig p250 can shoot this round?

  • You make a comment at :55 saying that the new boxes witll say T-series and the old SXT. Was this ever corrected? There is a difference but I haven't read all the Youtube comments to see if it was explained.

  • 124 grain and hitting 1240 ft/sec thats pretty damn good thats realy good

  • So., the ranger ammo shoots fine in a glock 19? Does anyone know if these are legal in Texas. Thanks.

  • @tatorsal lolol everything is legal in TX dude im sure if these are legal somewhere its here inTexas dude it aint California

  • @tatorsal Yes they are, its only 'Half ass Restriciting ' From the company as far as Sale to Public. We dont want gangbangers or other criminals using this round. As far as us Texans, its legal for almost anything here. Ammo is not an issue, Ammotogo(dot)com has them, took 1.5 days to get here. only place i could find the real "T-Series" [Talon] Not the SXT, there is a differene-Not much but these and Federal HST 124gr are all i carry, i Rotate in my XDM9 19 rd mag HST-Talon-HST-Talon-...

  • I just bought my first Glock 19 and I am curious: how many rounds of smaller grain FMJ (115, 124) should I put down range before shooting a hot load such as a +P or +P+? I feel like I should break in the barrel before upping the powder and/or grain size. What do you think? (My best guess would be 500 FMJ before shooting the hot loads).

  • @alhovde19 Honestly you don't need to "break" a gun in unless it says to or you just really want to. I am not expert, but I suspect shooting the 500 rounds of FMJ will make minimal difference in whether your 19 will shoot the +p+ (what I am saying is it will have no problem shooting them whether its broken in or brand new). Shoot some of the HPs to make sure they are reliable, if they feed well then carry them. I seek out the hotter loads for all of my guns.

  • I don't think any manufacturer will say that you can shoot +P+ loads in any gun. SAAMI actually has a standard for +P, but +P+ is not an actual standard, it is something not approved by SAAMI at all, so no company is ever going to say it is ok to shoot this stuff just for safety and legal reasons. This is not to say that no gun can handle them, just that no manufacturer will say that it is "ok" to shoot such a high pressure load. Sigs, Glocks, HKs and CZs should definitely handle a lot of these

  • great video. thanx

  • 1 round out of an M9 9mm I took down a 200+ pound doe in 2007 or 2008.

Really fast round. We dug the round out of the rear of the doe and yes the spears are very very sharp. 1 shot 1 kill 1 doe. Good hunting round. I still have the round and show a before and after round. Very shocking to hunters. +P+

  • I own a Glock 19... would you recommend this round for my glock?

  • @jackal9188

Without any hestitation. I find myself carrying this load at times, versus the 124 +P Gold Dot.

  • Where can I find more?

  • i CARRY THIS LOAD EVERYDAY HERE IN OHIO. GLOCK 26 OR GLOCK 17RTF2

  • Glocks are tested to 40,000 PSI. Do not shoot this in a Taurus or cheap firearm. Glocks, SiG, HK Beretta, M&P, FNP should be fine. Not sure about XDs or XDm

  • No law regarding possession or use of this ammo by non-law enforcement. The "Law Enforcement" is something Winchester came up with based on their standards. Ranger T ammo is the best that money can buy, its what my Department carries on duty.

  • love your vid, hope to see more of your vid's in the future.

  • great video, nasty round!

  • Very informative especially in regards to the PSI ammo comparisons.

  • I want some of these for my model 17.

  • Would this wreck an M&P9? I'm guessing not since (I would hope) smith did designate this gun as a service weapon, but I thought I'd toss it out there for someone who might know.

  • @NoiseMostBeautiful Ive shot it in a full size MP9.

  • @NoiseMostBeautiful Ive shot this load in a m&p9

  • I can think of a place where you couldn't have that ammo. Not %100 positive but I'm sure Commiefornia won't let the subjects there have that ammo. Up in Oregon the ATF seized 30 airsoft guns because the bonehead special agent said they can be made into machine guns lol. Man what is this country coming too. It would be funny if it wasn't so true.

  • My department switched from the Federal Hydra Shok 9mm +P+ to the Winchester SXT 9mm +P 124 grain. They both work good. The Winchester is a little cheaper.

  • I have a Taurus Pt111pro, do you think these hot rounds would wreck my gun?

  • @hugo2x yes!

  • Sig P220 won't hold +p+ because of the high psi,

  • Comment removed

  • Comment removed

  • I use +P+ 115gr gold dots in my CZ-75b and they work great, I'd like to pick up some of these too.

  • What round do you choose when carrying your 9mm?

  • @tg251979

Speer Gold Dot 124 +P or Federal HST 147. I am not opposed to carrying the SXT, it's just difficult to locate in large qty. Of course, the HST is also. I am always evaluating something new.

  • the ranger sxt and t-series are NOT the same, the t-series is a newer design, in 45 ive been very impressed with it ,in 9mm i dont really feel they have improved it much i actually like the older bullet a little more, the 45 acp expands to over an inch at its widest point and penetrates a little bit short of 12 inches

  • SXT is the lighter jacket

T-Series is the talon series, the old black talon jacket which is heavier than the SXT jacketing.

it is NOT illegal to carry this round, that is Winchester's Rule, NOT LAW.

T series offers better penetration and expansion.

    hope this helps you.

  • @opsdarklord so in a self-defense situation how do explain your ammo choice? I have HST and Federal says the same thing about that round. Or do the cops even care what you have in your CCW?

  • you will never have to explain your ammo choice.

your lawyer will speak on your behalf.

the only thing you should say to the police is; and i quote: "I feared for my life, i want to speak to my attorney"

then its generally a good idea to "shut up". anything you say will only hurt your case to justify your shooting.

    hope this helps.

  • I will. Thanks a trillion.

  • @ opsdarklord : Very good advice.

  • @opsdarklord amen bro.

  • @opsdarklord You are so absolutely right. This is all you should say except perhaps in accordance with new US Supreme Court rulings: I envoke my right to counsel and I envoke my right to remain silent. Now you cannot simply remain silent, you actually have to state that you want to remain silent by verbally stating so. But certainly, I was in fear of my life.

  • great info. thanx for the great job and great explanations

  • Thanks for the video very educational.

  • Great Videos, very educational. I just picked up 3 boxes for my 9mm and .40 cal.

  • the early winchester rangers had a deeper hollow point - and were around 1200 fps..now the "t-series" have a shallower hollow point - i've shot both into water jugs- both expanded and penetrated the same although the earlier stuff did have thicker jacket material so the petals did not bend out straight behind the round as the later stuff did...

  • Your vids r truly wonderful......I just subscribed. GREAT. keep up the good work

  • the "law enforcement only" designation is a winchester rule, not law.

  • great video. thanks

  • wow that looks ugly.

  • Great video!

I carry these in my CCW pistol and am glad to see what they really do upon expansion in the "real" world.

  • I'm using Ranger 124gr. +P right now and I'm guessing it would have similar results. Man, that looks wicked!

  • Comment removed

  • The 9BPLE, the GD 124 +P, and the HSTs are all very, very good.

But if you want the best, this is it.

  • @WinchesterRanger Agreed.

  • Good vid and good to see you didn't shoot low like usual!

  • got this a year ago at 50 bux a box. Worth it! If you can find this stuff BUY IT! If you can find it at all that is lol.

  • ammosheer . com . has it in 40/45 . i asked them for it in 9mm as well . maybe soon , but its accessable to civilians. tell thomas BR in florida sent you.

  • These rounds are some bad mama jamas...Our department used to use them before the Speer Gold Dots....I still use these in my BUG...I used to carry DoubleTap Bonded Defense, but I like these better.

  • See comparison video: Black Talon vs. Ranger - T (under related videos). The original Black Talon is no different then the SXT that replaced it, with the exception of the Luboly coating.

  • Comment removed

  • The newer T-Series have larger Talon Pedals upon expansion.

  • all metals are softer in the T's . the pedals though slightly larger give less resistance so theres more fold to them. and the T isnt as sharp, again due to the metals softness when compared , ad the needed tear characteristics.. great round though for personal protection .

  • what does the SXT stand for?

  • Supreme Expansion Technology

  • continued......I believe the corbon round is to hollow. I have had better luck with ranger sxt . golden sabor. speer gold dot

  • I just LOVE this round for 9mm! Thanks for the test!

  • Very informative video. I found your channel through Hickok45, and I am glad I did. Thank you and please continue to make more videos.

  • so you can use the +P+ on any 9mm glock? because you kind
