  • LOL.. Nice butt crack there Dan, but very cool. Glad to see something new, keep at it and keep posting more videos as you progress on this project.

    Kyle

  • @kkeezer Ya, I seen that crack too, butt oh well. Not much progress, I do have it back in the shop though now being used to pile things on. Thanks for the comment and for watching. Dan

  • cool old buggy you got there, dont see any thing like it at all, you should make a reall high geared rearend for it so you can drive round town

  • @onlypresto thanks, ya I should do something way different with this project. It's been sitting with no attentenion way too long, I did get it back into the shop now.

  • @danfhowe thas cool, ima subscribe so i can see it

  • You got me all wrong bud. I am very interested in what you have there. I guess I was a wise ass, but really did not mean to be.

If you could, I would be very interested in knowing what that engine is and the clutch setup...what is it off of? Looks like a old dry dog clutch. Is it?

Is there a way you could get a better video up? Not really needing anything but a little more light and a few more seconds on the engine part of it.

You going to make this road driveable? Sorry again.

  • @sheltiemanva Thats ok, this is a 2 cyl John Deere engine off an old combine, the thing on the front of the trans, which is a 4 speed Saginaw, is a coupler I made to adapt to the gearbox on the engine. The clutch Is on the engine flywheel like a normal clutch. There is a 3 to 1 gear box after that which makes every thing turn the wrong way so I had to flip the rearend upside down. If you look on my channel there is another video, More rat rod, not much better, but more on engine.

  • @sheltiemanva I ran out of room to reply in 1 comment, This was just a project to take and turn some piles of scrap into somthing useful and different. With the 3 to 1 gearbox on the engine it probly won't go over 25 or 30 mph, so I thought it would be neat to drive around old tractor shows and swap meet or what ever. It will have to be trailered there though, if you have anymore questions just ask. Dan

  • @sheltiemanva There is a little update on the vid of my sporty, one more vid of the sporty and ratrod update, but thats for shit to, I used movie maker on these vids and that seems to split things up and repeat everything. Dan

  • I could not tell what it was. Someone could not hold the dam camera still long enough for me to see anything.

  • @sheltiemanva Well, this was shot with a 30 dollar kiddie camera, but I must be alot smarter than you cause if I don't like a video I'm watching on youtube I just click on my <<back arrow and it magicly dissapears. I surely don't waste any of my time commenting on it either. Thanks for the view anyway. Dan

  • Finally a diesel powered Ratrod with some character...takes a machinist to come up with something like this...I like this.

  • @HawaiianMachinist I'm gonna have to dig this project out of the weeds and finish it up this summer. It's just a gas motor, not a diesel. Dan

  • @danfhowe Didn't know it was gas...but the way you clutched it in is to me a machinist's work of art...shows you that there are no limitations except those you choose. I'm thinking about doing a ratrod with a Perkins 540 V-8, and do an auxiliary with a Muncie M-22 off of a Muncie SM465. Or I might go with an IH trans and bell housing and hook the SM465 to that as the auxiliary box.

  • very cool,it looks as good as it sounds, walking around it

  • @cowwtippper420 Thanks for the comment. This project got put on the back burner for now, hopefully I will get it finished before I depart from the surface of the earth. I have a model A cowel sitting on it now.

  • Hillbilly Ratrod 101...love it!!!!!

  • Anyone Else Hear Banjo's Playing???

  • @TheScooterpimp By the way we own and play about 5 banjos, but not dualing banjos. thanks for the comment.

  • i like it!

  • @1963impala2dr My son inlaws brother gave me a model cowel I put on now I have to finish it. thanks for the view.

  • @1963impala2dr a model A cowel, I forgot the A

  • its a model l engine! cool!

  • Thank you for the comment. I don't know if this was on a combine or what it came off from. I bought it at a fleamarket for 40 dollars. Had to grind the valves but thats all it took to get it running. Winter seem to have slowed the project down, kinda brought it to a hault.

  • good buy for $40!

wish i bought my whole model l tractor for that price! its about 9hp at 1500 rpm. last year that these engines were made was 1946. i have to do some work to my engine. mine burns oil and runs crappy at times.

  • Thank you, I figure top speed will be around 30, but it's something different.

  • Liking the rod a lot. It's obviously not going to b up there in the speed stakes. But could it be the first hot rod to run in a ploughing match??!! Ha ha ha!!

  • awesome!!!
