a pity that s.o. is so utterly discriminated just for being a jew, this doesnt happen nowadays, but to think that only a little more than 60 years ago many were massacred for that!

What? Topless ladies!? Why? - this is my first encounter with the merchant of venice, so I don´t know the background. Obviously it´s a brothel but I can hardly belive that women showed themselves to everyone passing by - that barely happens nowadays!

@Rachelmariaaa I know you asked a long time ago but if your still wondering, the reason Venetian prostitutes walked around topless was because it was law. The Christian authorities were troubled by the rate of homosexually in the city so they made the prostitutes bare their boobs to make the gay men 'remember' hetrosexual urges. This is not mentioned in the play, but for historical accuracy.
