Used to play this song when I was a kid, my grandfather didn't like it because it made him think of WW2, the invasion of Saipan specifically, weird! Always gave me a pretty decent eargasm, like mdg mentioned!
May the 8 who didn't like the track suffer a coma for a hundred years or so only to wake up in a gloomy London like city where they are the only living humans in this city (all humans had moved to another planet) , the problem is that all of these left out souls have lost their breeding organs and above all this track is played over and over again in the back of their lives ...
@Zepplica911 lol shut the fuck up man, pink floyd is my favorite and all, and unbelievable things go through my mind as i listen to this but why should they suffer if they dont like it? silly fuck

I bet you have listened to them albums like piper at the gates of dawn, meddle obscured by clouds and atom heart mother. the only floyd album I don't like is more, even the name more just sounds as if the whole album is a filler. greatest band of all time .
Pink Floyd is, without a doubt, my favorite band. But I've never listened to anything earlier than Dark Side of the Moon. Now I know, I was missing same damned good stuff!
I agree that this is a fantastic album, possibly their best. That being said, you cannot discount the stuff made after their 'commercialization'. There's a reason Dark Side still charts, and that's because it's an amazing album. And of course you also have Wish You Were Here and The Wall. They're certainly very different when compared to Piper's (though Syd probably has something to do with that) or Atom Heart Mother. All their albums have strong and weak points. But Saucerful is AMAZING!
I think they were pretty aware of their commercial phase and dont really think its unfortunate. They even acknowledge that their real goal (everybody's goal) was to get rich XD
To ThatMiserableCat: "The Dark Side od of the moon" was the last good lp by Pink Floyd. After that Lp fiinished their geniality. The best one was the first, with Syd. Anyway, I agree with you. Bye & kisses to everyone.
And you see, I think that great music should always have some power, transcendent and cultural rhythm going in order to inspire people to open their minds to life more. Music is too much of a sacred and unique medium and it bothers me that it is being abused so much. So I'm not knocking your comment much at all. I think that great music is going to make a revival though. You just need to be intuitive that it will happen.

I'd swear that they used this drum-beat again in a similar way for "Time" later on in 1970's! Nick gives the drums a powerful, steady beat all the way through, increasing the intensity toward the end. David and Rodger give soft, subtle sounds w/guitars that imitate sitars; then with Rodger's seductive voice and Richard Wright's organ playing, gives a certain Oriental/Arabian feel to it, making it a bewitching/exotic brew!
