  • having the window tilted up is tuff

  • Hey! This happened to me except that my sunroof cover opens only halfway. Did you find how to do fix it?

  • My car has the same problem. Im looking and I think you would need an auxiliary fan motor for your sunroof.

  • sunroofs are for weenies

  • @25rsboy

    ummm.... ok.

  • You are a DORK!!!

  • @ebabula27

    Grazie!

  • i have a ford escort zx2 it has the problem u have its just the style if it goes back so far that cover moves with it so i hope this helps

  • No problem there, that position is mostly designed for smokers. You can drive smoking with windows up and the smoke leaves through the sunroof...

  • update your sunroof or get a moonroof, the glassy one, i have e46 but i think the same technology must be used in e36 models...so mine actually matters when i let it slid up, air actually comes in and thats because my inside cover panel is always all the way open, i dont know if yours go all the way out or not, but update it ;)

  • i think i dont really know but the sunroof goes inside the roof like... goes between the inner panel and the roof not like a moon roof try to push it back and dont know just play with it

  • i see no problem there i have a 00 323i it do the same :)

  • @jitenshajin

I don't brag about it, but lots of people complement the car. It's extremely nice and I try to keep her in Tip Top shape to give the brand the name it deserves. BMW's are HIGH Quality. This is a 12 year old car... and a plastic clip broke. I can completely understand that. I fixed the problem for FREE. NO MONEY WASTED. =-D

  • @NealPratt :Dig it; to each his own. Best wishes.

  • @jitenshajin I think the E36 is the last 3 series that doen't wast your money...

  • @jitenshajin you're an ass. best car I've owned

  • what mechanism do you think would pull the cover backwards? there is none. If you want the slight breeze of the sun roof tilted up like that you have to pull it backwards

  • thats not a problem my bmw does the same thing as yours its for show

  • Dude, don't complain you got added options for free! leave it out like that it looks like the Jetsons!

  • For proof that it retracts the liner in tilt mode go to my videos. The video of the eclipse sunroof switch for e36 (allows one touch open AND close)... the video shows open/close, open/close, tilt/close, and open while starting.

  • Bah... just did the sunroof repair kit install... didn't fix the problem. This is going to drive me nuts. I took pictures of everything I did... I will post a link where I think the problem is when I get the pictures uploaded.

  • ok... the part you need is in the "sunroof repair kit", part number 54 12 8 206 384, I ordered it from a place called "autohaus arizona" since there is free UPS ground shipping. Cost $51.70. I will record the process when I do the fix.

  • I have had 3 e36's... 2 of them have opened automatically. The one that I have now needs to be fixed. I will let you know how to fix it after I fix it. :)

  • nothin wrong i got a 745 and only when u slide the sunroof open den the cover slides automacily if u tilt it up u gotta slide the cover ur self

  • It's supposed to slide back automatically.

  • yeh i know only when u open the roof completley, not tilt it

  • no... when you tilt it, it opens too. Not all the way... only about 5 inches. Do I need to tape a video and post it to prove it?

  • hahaha sure cuz in my car it dosent work, if you could make a video

  • I have found posted on bimmerforums about how to fix it. There are 2 rails that the interior panel is bolted to, 5 bolts on each side (you have to remove the exterior panel to get to it. One of the rails has another rail locked into the back of it. When you open the sunroof, the roof drops into a little catch, and pulls the int panel back as well. This piece can get bent, when you do tilt it misses the catch and doesnt open. I am going to try to find the part to order, I will make a vid then.

  • go to google video... search for bmw e36 one touch sun roof mod. The mod is that it closes with one touch instead of holding it... but he still shows how it tilts/opens.

  • no problem here. when tilted nothing happens on the inside, only when it slides open. o and bavarian sound werks rocks! i havent anything of my own yet but ive heard and im gonna get a hook up soon. take care of that ride man!

  • this is stupid.....

  • Well... First of all I put this video on YouTube to be able to embed it on my BimmerForums for help. This video was not intended for help form YouTube browsers. Secondly someone like you obviously knows nothing about things like this so please just keep your petty comments to yourself.

  • What if its purely cosmetics? I think the sunroof popped up a bit looks great on bimmers.

    To go along with JimLahey2008,

    Bimmers = BMW autos

    Beamers = BMW bikes

  • I agree, I always see cars like mine in photoshoots with the sunroof popped up.

  • it should go back when you tilt it,it goes in half way, somethig might be wrong with the acual devise

  • Your problem is obvious, too many wheels. Everyone knows the only good Beemers are the ones on 2 wheels.

  • You know, the type of BMW owners I don't like.... are the ones that don't see every BMW owner as a BROTHER! I talk and throw a thumbs-up to Every BMW owner I come across, even if they are missing two wheels and a few cylinders...

  • I just bought this car yesterday, on the way home blew the radiator, not too happy. Anyways, my sunroof does the same thing. What size speakers fit in the door?

  • I have a 1" tweeter and a 2.5" midrange in the door, that comes with the Harman/Kardon System.
