  • Is the same thing with air. :D

  • Awesome vid, explains such simple effects of Coanda.

  • im confused wat does this prove exactly...? :(

  • @666spicytaco

even though the water pushes against the spoon, the spoon is still attracted to the water. its used in plane wings so when the air goes over the wings, the air stays attached, so that another effect of planes can come into effect

  • in your materials list u forgot : lotsa water

  • i thought this was Bernoulli's principal?

  • Lol his sink got all wet after the POWER POUR!

  • Simple and straight forward way to explain the effect. Beautifully done…Great job, keep it up.

  • My god... Maybe thats the way the planes fly?)

  • Could u make it any more boring???

  • this is surface tension, not the coanda effect

  • I always suspected this was an intricate part of the respiration of giraffes.

  • THIS IS NOT COANDA EFFECT! In order get the Coanda Effect a gas jet must flow into a gas environment, or a liquid jet into a liquid environment! In the real effect, the surrounding gas/liquid is entrained by the flowing jet, thus causing its attaching to a close hard surface. In this video, the surrounding air is far of being entrained by the water jet.

  • @optyqus Then this is partially a display of the coanda effect? air jet in the air environment?

  • it hurts my mind!!

  • Could someone try this experiment with two streams of water/fluid and a single object with two concave surfaces( unlike a spoon which has one concave and one convex) in the middle? I wonder what would determine (convexity or something) which way the object will move i.e. to the left stream or the right stream.

  • Could someone tell me the relation between the Coanda Effect and the Bernoulli theory?

    Thanks

  • The straw one is the coanda effect for sure, but I'm a little bit skeptical about the similar effect with water.

  • @Acer81996 I just read the Wiki article about Coanda effect: "A common misconception is that Coandă effect is demonstrated when a stream of tap water flows over the back of a spoon held lightly in the stream and the spoon is pulled into the stream.[...] This particular demonstration is dominated by surface tension."

  • DAMN SCIENCE! YOU SCARY!

  • not

    impressing

  • Fucke you sukcers and my penice in youre myinde!!! Fucke you and sukce my penice!!!! In my fucker sperma dooinge!!! Syka!!! Иди на хуй!!! Пидарас!

  • @froginloop

I'm not sure if i agree. I'll have to give it some thought.

  • That's not the Coanda effect...tisk tisk...

  • Fascinating, the more water he pours the less that falls in the sink.

  • el video es bueno pero no valoras la importancia del agua

  • A common misconception is that Coandă effect is demonstrated when a stream of tap water flows over the back of a spoon held lightly in the stream and the spoon is pulled into the stream. Here, because it is a flow of water into air, there is no entrainment of the surrounding fluid (the air) into the jet (the stream of water). This particular demonstration is dominated by surface tension.

  • and that's (partly) why airplanes fly!

  • This is purely surface tension not the Coanda effect

  • @access3424

surface tension of the air, too? hmmm

  • @SpeakingSerpent

    What do you mean??

  • @access3424

you wrote it was surface tension, but he demonstrated the effect using air by blowing on it through a straw. How could it be surface tension?

  • @SpeakingSerpent

I'm sorry I didn't see the straw experiment.

  • Makes me think of an airplanes wing when he did the blowing air part. So maybe some aspects of lift are involved?

  • nice demonstration

I think that could be the skin tension of the water

like it clings to your skin, it grabs you

thats just my 2 cents but who knows

  • A romanian guy who studied in France....

  • good video, simple and clear

  • Thanks,nice work

  • Lol, I'm so doing this right now!

  • clever

  • you should do a video on the mass effect

  • A nappy pin? O__o

  • Fantatic display of Bernoulli's priciple & its effects.

Coanda's effect is merely a by-product of the lower pressure within a fluid due to it being accelerated as per Bernoulli.

The fluid tends to stick to the surface of the convex shape (spoon, aerofoil etc) due to the slightly higher pressure of the fluid adjecent the parcel of fluid being accelerated pushing on it!

In this case accelerated fluid is water and adjacent fluid is air. Brilliant experiment shows how 2 fluids work as 1

  • this will work on flat surfces too i think. Some years ago a demo used to air between commercials on the discovery channel.

  • very nice demonstration

  • Nicely demonstrated.

Benoulii's principle also at work here.

  • A world without Romania is nothing!

  • How is the principle behind this effect?

  • oh, got it when you blow the spoon from above... its probably the same effect you get in the wing of an airplane, difference in pressure on the more concave surface due to the exrtra time it takes for any "fluid" (water/air) to pass over it makes it pull that way... or something like that... cool video!

  • Sweet stuff. I bet your counter was pretty wet afterwards, though

  • Thank you for showing this, psidot. The video makes it very clear and understandable.

  • ahh...good...a lot clearer than reading about it. A video is worth a thousand words. Thanks for posting.

  • You're wasting bandwidth... at least you spared the apostrophes.

  • Henri Coanda was a ramanian inventor and he created the worlds's FIRST jet engine. Also,as you can guess,he discovered this effect. But he actually discovered this by accident:he built a jet-engine prototype and when he started the engine he saw how the flames are being "attrcted" to the wooden fuselage, because of it's shape.

  • Henri Coanda is romanian: look for a world with out romania

  • Man, that's great. Thanks for posting.

  • when Henri Coandă created the first jet powered airplane, he saw how the flames attatched to the wooden body of the plane. it's essential to take this effect into consideration when building aircraft (+, the effect is used by airplanes' wings). that's why it's called the Coandă effect.

  • Witchcraft!

  • This is just physics. Jeff Raskin mentioned this effect years ago on his site even. If you don't believe it try it yourself, that's the beauty of science. Anyone can experiment and it's a self-correcting tool.

  • no one here wants to be preached at. if we did, we'd go to church, where it's obvious we *want* to be preached at. we're not on this Earth to impose our beliefs on others as if they *HAVE* to listen. :/

    -x-

I agree, by the way. ^^

  • laurriebaurrie: thanks. lol

  • Jack and the beanstock, huh?

While I disagree with TempFix in his/her comment about using your time wiser... I disagree with you more. Science is a part of the earth, whether you like it or not, but so is religion. You better get over it, buddy.

And if you think you can convert someone to atheism by that comment, you're most likely mistaken.

Besides, how did this come to religion?

This is spoon and water, here. How idiotic.

  • Time for an overused quote: "There is no spoon."

Seriously though, science is cold, hard, incontrovertible fact, made of what we observe in this world. Religion, on the other hand, is made up by men, for men. It is their way of explaining that which they cannot or will not understand. It has been that way for millennia and will remain that way for a good, long time. Science can fully answer almost any question, and those questions it can't explain will be explained in a simple matter of time.

  • Yes, but can't explain everything, but some people believe that explains everything, and create dogmas and reticulated anything that can't be explained...

  • it cant exsplain every thing like how one thing got made the unavers you probaly say the big bang but now ther had to be some one that make the stuff for the big bang to happen what it dident.

  • Everything in time will begin and end.. if it hasn't yet, it will at some point. We are unimaginably lucky to be here. To discredit a God for our existence would give credit where it is due.. everything that occupies us in our existence.

  • @usernameunave0 Well said !

  • wow i think the owner of the channel took down preaching dudes comments. LMFAO

either way yeah it's funny how they galavant around thinking they're better. it is funny but it's also scary how people are so easily brainwashed into thinking they really are better & smarter for their way of thinking.

  • I know it! People are so easily fooled into believing science. It scares me to death MorbodKittyProd! What a shame, that way of thinking.

  • LMFAO @ TheSkeB: "I know it! People are so easily fooled into believing science. It scares me to death MorbodKittyProd! What a shame, that way of thinking. "

    WTF!? LMFAO

  • yeah you demonstrated lift!!!

this is sorta how airplane wings work...sorta...lol

  • this also works on your hands as well.

  • Yeah. There is nothing special about it.

I don't even go to college, and I know this will happen. WHo cares about the science of it or who discovered it or what that person named it. Science only exists for man to try to prove how great he is. Man wants to control, so he tests, and he continues to test, and then says its a law because he tested it so many times.

All you need to know is that God created it all. Without God's laws, we would not be here. Trust in that.

  • Your an Idiot! A complete embarrassment to religious individuals with half a brain.

  • I guarantee my IQ would outmatch your own with no contest. But someone like you I'm sure would rather make-believe that you have intellect because of how many years you attend school, am I right? Mabe get a few plaques, a few certificates, a doctrate. That is all meaningless. It will decompose. Nobody will remember you, or the science and schooling that you so readilly hang your hat on.

  • Oh, really? So while religions have come and gone over the eons, knowledge in meaningless? I find your mindset laughable. How about you tell your doctor that before surgery. I wouldn't blame him if his hand "slipped" and severed your spinal cord. Honestly, do you think yourself better than the rest of the world simply because you are an evangelical bigot? Wake up and smell reality man!

  • A real idiot like your slef does not surpirse me at all. You are one of those individuals who think you know it all. As you stated, degrees, certificates plaques, all decompose, and they are meaningless as are those "facts" you currently hold to be your truths.

As Socrates said" True Knowledge exists in knowing that you know nothing."

Your IQ doesn't make u smarter! I don't even think God can stand your negativity

  • why do you hate this guy so much?He is probably smarter than you and you can`t even spell "self" so i wouldnt even be talking about being smart.

  • no one here wants to be preached at. if we did, we'd go to church, where it's obvious we *want* to be preached at. we're not on this Earth to impose our beliefs on others as if they *HAVE* to listen. :/

  • Wow thats well cool lol.

  • I think the curved shape of the spoon is similar to the curve shape of an airplane wing. This helps to describe the phenomenon of "lift". At least it seems like perhaps it does.

  • its just like a wing from an aircraft.

  • nicely done experiment! I commend your scientific method!

  • waste of water !!!!

  • Please, tell me your joking.

    If not, kill yourself, immediately.

  • You don't understand the point of discovering things.

  • No, but without learning about them and detailing how they work we become ignorant. It's not about discovering something new it's about witnessing how things work. People like you would see a child being born an go "whatever, nothing new" while people like me and the guy who posted the video would be amazed at how simple things like a spermatoza can grow into a living infant that will become and adult. But go back to your fairy tale religion, it's much safer there.

  • Well then perhaps my logic is superior to your science. I have faith. I know that when a male and female mate it will produce a baby, or offspring. THAT is the wonder. Not the science of it. If you perform your science to better appreciate the glory of God, then proceed. That is good. But science does not do that. Science glorifies man for his make-believe mental prowess. Science makes man ignorant. You are backwards.

  • Welcome to the post-enlightenment world TheSKeb. What do you think created the computer you use to view this? God? Is this the same God who created the world in seven days? And no more than 4,000 years ago, right?

Science is here so we can understand how the world around us functions, so we don't have to rely on fairy tales about some Jewish zombie who will save our souls when the world comes to an end because of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Welcome to reality, my friend

  • and by the way - Christians aren't supposed to claim superiority over one another because of belief, race, religion, knowledge, or gender. Okay. So get down off of your soapbox.

  • But he's better than us, didn't you know? LOL. People like this really make me glad I'm not a zealot. Sure, I'll accept that it's possible there are all-powerful beings, but... To go as far as he does is just funny.

  • say Science is trash when you're dying of cancer and they've yet to find a cure for the kind of cancer you have - and i mean CURE not TREATMENT.

  • I sure will. And I will go to heaven a happy soul. God created science anyways. We just use it incorrectly.

God could CURE cancer. The problem is that all these people like you and others posting against me don't believe that he could. God created Cancer. Of course He has an antidote. I can't wait for a religious scientist to do it the right way and discover that cure, only to give the Glory To God. Then what will you say?

  • Then the *real* scientist will show that his "cure" is no more real that the snake-oil that has been toted as miracle medicine for years.

  • TheSKeB--- LMFAO I'm a Christian too, but I don't claim that Science is trash & that it makes man ignorant, especially when usernameunave0 has a very good point - the very computer you used to view this video showing off the loveliness of Science. aren't your hands gonna burn now that you've touched something man's created in the name of science & not in the "Glory of God"?? wow you're interesting! about as interesting as Shirley Phelps Roper

  • Can you please stop trolling this video? Do something more constructive with the time God has given to you.

  • Your god is a patheitc attempt to deny the truth that all we have is now and then we rot in the ground. Your christ is a fairy tale. If you had been read "Jack and the beanstock" instead of genises you'd believe that there was a giant in the clouds, oh wait you already do. Stop trolling science you pathetic excuse for a human being.

  • I suppose it IS up to you if you prefer to believe that your life is as meaningless as the dirt you walk upon. But what is worth believing in?

Who do you suppose created the "laws of science?" Have you any clue? Are they "just there" like God? You credit the "discovery" of gravity to a man who had an apple fall on his head. Who created that "law?"

Also, a man wrote Jack and the Beanstalk. That is a fairytale, true, but The Bible, is not, kind sir.

  • TheSKeB: "Also, a man wrote Jack and the Beanstalk. That is a fairytale, true, but The Bible, is not, kind sir. "

how do you know it isn't a fairytale? did you meet the original writers of the Bible?

  • 1. sorry TheSKeB, but the Bible you read would not have existed without science. Nature was made to be explored and man should learn how to use it more efficiently.

Witout science, there would be no christianity today.

    2. Science covers everything (but not only) that can be used as a tool. Even elephants, dolphins, and other animals use tools, a sort of science in its infancy. If they have the right to explore, why don't we?

=> what you meant is: science helped religion, now f*** science!

  • neat

  • nice sink lol

  • I'm totally gona do this with my little brother :)

    Thank you

  • I did it with my little brother in place of the spoon....he got pissed

  • lol...huh? XD

  • nice experiments...

  • do u need 2 blow it or can u just push it under the tap (sorry if thats a really dumb question or something :S)

  • another simple experiments, im done with commenting on your vids man :|

  • yh planes have concaved wings dont they?

  • testing

  • isn't this like the effect that keeps airplanes in the air?

the air/water at the flat side of the spoon has to travel a bigger distance==>higher speed==> lower pressure than at the other side==> the not-flat side presses the spoon against the water?

it was something like that but I can't remember exactly :P

  • is this not just bernouilles principle, which is the explanation of lift?

  • yea, that's exactly what i was thinking...

  • Sweet stuff. I bet your counter was pretty wet afterwards, though. :P Nice demo.

  • We could harness the energy through gravametric partical disasociations by... damm i gotta take a leak.....

  • i have to pee

  • ....

nice, pretty interesting.. the video i mean

  • u know Coanda was a romanian <3 that makes me proud of being a romanian anyway good job

  • i like your sink

  • Thanks for the Coanda effect demo. This is fascinating stuff.

  • surely thats just to do with water surface tension

  • "surely thats just to do with water surface tension"

It's actually quite a bit more complicated. Read Wikipedia's article on the Coanda effect (both the English and German versions are good).

  • Does the coanda effect usually cause viewers to feel the urge to go to the bathroom?

  • And for my next trick: how to mop the wet floor using only the dog.

  • cool work!!

  • easy nmn e explain toh,,,

the greater the speed of the fliud(water or gas) the lesser the pressure!

    am i ryt?

  • Yes, that's Bernoulli's law. Actually quite locigal! :-)

  • does it have to be curved?

    can it be flat?

  • grab a sheet of paper place under your mouth and blow hard it will point ahead and became flat

  • You got water all over the counter! Mom is going to be PISSED when she get home!

  • adhesion

  • seems like the same effect as when a ping-pong ball is blown in a stasis above ones head.

  • looks like someone needs a kitchen remodel.

  • what's wrong with their kitchen?

  • All it does is create a low presure area around that end of the spoon. The same basic principle that allows airplanes to fly.

Not a glitch in the matrix.

  • mr Coanda (effect) needs introduction to Mr. Bernoulli (Law).

  • agreed kinda missrepresented but excellent experiment

  • My thought exactly. In fact I was going to say pretty much the same thing you just did. Another one is on any convertible cars' soft top as it's going down the road, the top will bulge and will develop a bit of lift (it has to in order to overcome the resistance of the air passing over it). Not a LOT of lift, but it's there all the same ... a lot like this plastic spoon, which dosen't have a lot of weight, nor is it at a very sharp angle in relation to the water stream.

  • there is an spoon, this is one of the principles that rule the reality in what YOU probably believe.

  • No. It's just a glitch in the Matrix

  • its not a glitch in the matrix, its Bernoulli's principle: as the velocity of a fluid increases, the pressure exerted by that fluid decreases.

so when air or water flows over the back of the spoon it creates a low pressure area on that side. its the same way a wing works on an airplane.

  • Ehm. I know. Forget about the spoon/matrix joke thing...

  • There is no spoon...

  • awesome

  • COOL
