"What I saw in Tibet was the exact opposite of what I had read in the Western media." So says the Finnish scholar Eirik Granqvist in his recent article published by the Wall Street Journal.
Mr. Eirik Granqvist has lived in China for one and half years, and visited southwest China's Tibet and neighboring Qinghai Province. Be scared at first to land on a “totalitarian state” limned by Western media, he then turns to realize that "I could not have been more wrong. People, including policemen, were friendly and ready to help."
Also his travelling experience in the remote highland is a strong evidence to prove that "all this Western talk about China 'suffocating Tibetan language and culture' is nothing but a lie."
"After delivering my lectures in Dalian, Liaoning province, and Shanghai, I spent one month traveling around China with my wife.
I sought the help of a Chinese friend to book air tickets and get hotel reservations. Where would we go? I wanted to see her reaction when I said "Lhasa", capital of the Tibet autonomous region. "No problem," said my friend. I got the same answer when I told her that we also wanted to go to the Xinjiang Uygur and Inner Mongolia autonomous regions and Yunnan province."
"Lhasa was very clean and organized where one could get anything, including fresh grapes and other fruits. We hired a guide just during our visits to Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple. For the rest of our stay in Lhasa, we were alone and went wherever (and did whatever) we wanted to. People, of course, were curious, but in a friendly and natural sort of way. Few spoke English but talking with them was a great pleasure."
"We saw very few policemen and most of them were Tibetans. Thanks to our visit to Tibet, we realized that for ordinary people, religious practices are part of everyday life. All official signs in Lhasa are both in Tibetan and Chinese languages, with the former preceding the latter in most.
In the parks in front of Potala Palace, Tibetans from the countryside were having picnics and enjoying their visit to Lhasa. So all this Western talk about China "suffocating Tibetan language and culture" is nothing but a lie."
"What I saw in Tibet was the exact opposite of what I had read in the Western media." The scholar writes in his article .
you were not being invited to tibet to build this railway! you invaded it in 1950 and kept it under ilegal military occupation since then and claim it was always part of china LOL
this USevil empire was founded by low lives from Europe, today this evil empire is continue build on low lives, Bandits from around the world...
The US founding fathers were low lives, bandits from Europe. Today's White Guys on North America are descendent of European low lives, and thugs; they have evolved to steal Oil from around the world.
I was completely captivated by this... i hope to travel to Tibet at some point in the future. Thank you for the amazing look into that area and keeping awareness on this mostly ignored part of the world.
Biased and lying. I have been in Tibet several times. No one care about your cameras, except maybe you tried to film a military establishment. Well, I am sorry to watch this half piece of junk.
Actually I think you are a little bit too sensitive. Exclude a few places where is very sensitive, you are free to talk to every one and go everywhere in China:)
Great video, but like to point out that "qinghai" is actually Amdo, which is historically part of Tibet. The great battles between Tibet and the Tang armies were fought on the borders of Amdo back in the 8th-9th c. CE.
Many governments around the world with low moral standards have been sitting on their hands for decades pandering to the most evil regime on the planet.
Very well-produced documentary, though the camera work sometimes inclines to the current nervous-style of zooming in ever so slightly on the subject and then tracking during the course of the shot. Well-edited and informative. I'd like to see more footage of our narrator (and videographer?) as well as SephJoey, but these are minor quibbles. I look forward to watching the other parts, and to the day when such videos can be viewed in the Middle Kingdom without censorship.

another bunch of foreign retards making nonsensical dumb shit, talking about things they've no idea of, revealing their ignorance in public and are too simple minded to be civilized.
@SephJoey filming during a cloudy week doesnt give you the right to lie. btw those people clustered in "poverty" most likey are occupied by older generations lokking after the farmlands while their kids earn acceptable amount of wages the cities. as a "journalist or director" you should be more responsible on what kind of statements you are making. sitting on your fat ass on the train doesnt give you the judge.

Why is the narration so anti-sinic bias and racist? Haters never win.
Anti-sinics is as bad as anti-semites.
Chinese is a developing country with pollution problems - no one has claim otherwise.

1. Communists INVADED Tibet in 1950. The CCP won't tell you that.
2. China and Tibet are being over run and run down by pollution.
3. Anyone supporting the CCP and its backward policies is anti Chinese and anti Tibetan.
HumanRightsVideosT 3 months ago 3
@HumanRightsVideosT hater, are you stalking me now?
You are just an anti-sinic racist. You are just a little piece of dipshit.
How can China invade its own country? Can France invade Paris?
The Chinese are treated like crap by their government, but the Tibetan Chinese are treated better than other Chinese ethnic groups.

The 1951 17 point agreement
.
signed between Tibet and China
(that the Tibetans didn't want to sign, and the CCP probably won't tell you about)
proves that
.
Tibet is a COUNTRY
So Tibetans are not Chinese. Do you care about China like I do ?
