The later episodes were always a lot weaker than the earlier ones.

If you notice neither couple have children either.

The writers wanted to keep the stories around self-sufficiency, and not just turn it into "another sit com".

Apparently there were lots of calls for it to continue, but the writers said they had done all the elf-sufficiency they could come up with, so wanted to call it a day.

They all rejoined a couple of years later to do the special filmed in front of the Queen, it really was poor and had only the passing mention to self-sufficiency.

This show really holds the test of time. A show that could be on today. Great ensemble acting. What I love most is the friendship of the four. I think the name of this show in the States was 'Good Neighbors' a better name for the show, showing the friendship of the two neighbors.

On a differant note, this kind of lifestyle would be harder in the States with no health care.

Back in the 70's, when this program was on I remember Felicity Kendal was voted by British viewers "The sexiest woman on British TV". She could never understand why. "My face was always dirty!". After watching the shows again I remember why they voted for her.

They don't write it like they used 2 fantastic cast, brilliant actors! self -sufficient farm complete with veg patches a goat pigs & a multitude of hens... oh & a horse. I can see clearly now 2 why it's called 'tThe Good Life'. Back the farmers!
