@lurch321 I think this was back in either 1981-1982. I remember this skit when I was a kid. Fridays was to be ABC's copycat answer to SNL. It didn't last long, I think 2 seasons, as SNL has endured today.
this is, essentially, shit. however, the repetition of "mr doody" and the twisted humour of the punch bowl bit is definitely larry david. and not just larry david trying to be woody allen
I remember everyone from the cast being on Seinfeld except Darrow Igus, Maryedith Burrell was the Fat free yogurt shop owners wife, Blankfield was the clown in the Paliacci episode, Melanie Chartoff was George's girlfriend in the Eric the Clown one, Bruce Mahler (the guy in this sketch) was the Rabbi who told everyone Elaine was jealous of George getting married-maybe Larry and Darrow didnt get along-who knows? The musical guests were killer, brought Punk to Middle America
"Fridays" was a fairly awesome show back in the day which began the careers of not only Larry ("Seinfeld" co-creator "Curb your Enthusiasm") David, but also Michael(Kramer from "Seinfeld") Richards as well.
I was just about to enjoy a nice warm glass of christian baby blood when I read this comment and nearly spilled all over myself but then I was suddenly distracted because I heard the distinct sound of someone dropping a penny outside my door. So I got to go because it's my turn to run the Bank's into the ground so I can own the world.
This is one of the funniest sketches of all time. To this day, when one of the prima donnas I work with does something stupid I say "Oh Mr. _____, it's o.k. Mr. -------, keep on _______ Mr. ________"!
Wow. You can see the Seinfeld in this skit. I can picture Kramer trying to do something outrageous like this and George acting how Larry did in his roles. THanks for posting.
I am starting to remember this "obscure but well-rememberd joke" of "how are you doing Mr. Doody, Mr, Doody" etc etc. I watched most of this show Fridays.
Larry's hair looks like that one in The 3 Stooges.
i dont get why you guys dont even acknolage other post that ar talking about somthing and thenm you go oh i just realised when the other person just said it
This was so funny when I was a kid. It still cracks me up today! Thanks for posting this clip. COMEDY!!!! Larry David was light years ahead of his time.
I was talking about his George Steinbrenner character on Seinfeld. The surgeon changes the subject and and starts rambling on about potato salad much like Steinbrenner would do in the episodes where George works for the Yankees.
I'm not talking about Jason Alexander. The guy in this clip is Larry David who did the voice of George Steinbrenner on Seinfeld when George worked for the Yankees. David's Steinbrenner would often go rambling on about nothing the way the surgeon does about potato salad here.
The character of George Costanza was based on Larry David btw. That's why in season two of CYE Larry gets bugged when people say what a jerk George was. lol
Not a bad sketch! But if this were on SCTV in 1980, despite their pitifully low budget, you'd have seen Doody's face courtesy of their brilliant makeup artists.
such a funny skit, like it hangs on the seinfeld dialogue before it was even made. the night i watched this sketch i saw the epsiode where Elaine gets bitten by the dog, Jerry tried to find out if his gf kissed cousin jeffery "then it's howdy doody" and Kramer adds "Right this way mr Doody" hahaah i know there r others just didnt pay attn b4 i saw this
Larry definitely looks better as an old man. And I'd rather be bald than have a frizzy Jewfro...
