the concept of magnets aligned properly in a circle to create an imbalance which then causes another magnet to move, is nothing more earth-shattering than your standard electric motor. If the "demonstration" showed the audience genuine perpetual motion, then why don't electric motors (which use the concept of counter-balanced magnets placed in a circle) run by themselves? Notice that the round magnet on the little ball is leaning to one side a little. This means that the ball doesn't contact the table right at the axis of rotation. When he moves the outer ring magnet to one side, the point on the ball that is in contact with the table tries not to move due to friction this is what makes the torque that causes the thing to spin.

I made one of those motors. It didn't work. You can wiggle it a little and it kind of falls to one side and that is when it spins. The only power is the force of gravity when it falls slightly. If you get it to stand still it doesn't rotate. I was bummed out.

It's simple to explain. Yes, magnets repelling each other can release energy as they push themselves away from one another. The problem is that it required just as much energy to move them together in the first place. It's like a bouncing ball, it never bounces higher than where you drop it from. When you saw it spinning, it wasn't perpetual. He gave it a small moment (angular force) when he lowered it down but it doesn't continue this when he holds it still, the ball just spins from inertia.

Scam alert! This is easily debunked I can reproduce this affect with 2 magnets and a steel ball. Place a disk magnet on ball. Hold 2nd magnet over the ball&magnet so it stands up. If the 2nd magnet is not centered over the magnet/ball, it basically rolls toward it at an angle to center itself. If you make little circular motions over the ball with the 2nd magnet you can make it spin faster. The horseshoe config is irrelevant. What a scam artist. No wonder people are shooting at them.

The lower magnet starts spinning simply because it is being chased and is rolling away from the upper magnet. Once the ball is finally chased and centered then it will continue to slowly lose speed. No free energy, more of a slight of hand. If it were truly free energy then it would have been mounted on a shaft and shown spining.
