I was in that area last year. I looked out the window, looked down the stairs, then thought "screw it, it'd tear my basement out of the ground anyway."
the thing never hit me, but it did shake up the cat a lot.
my brother-in-law's parents live just outside of wadena. At least 15 ppl they knew had their homes destroyed and one of his cousins had the part of the high school roof land on his van as he was driving down the road. He somehow managed to escape out the passenger window with only bruised ribs. crazy scary
The sky is really green in this video. They say when the sky is green in a big storm like this, a tornado is very close.........well...there's no kidding one is close by. I mean how could someone miss that? lol
lol at 00:52-1:05 look right beside the left side of the tornado when it split up into three parts, two went back together and one kind of looks like it's running away. XD
I was just listening to the radio in Perham just a few miles away from Wadena, looking threw the trown afterwards was horrible, the graveyard was a mess but worse of all the whole high school roof was torn off and was turned into a ball, wicket man!
I Remember This Day. My Aunt, Me, My Cousin, My Friend We We're All Sitting At My House And Watching A Movie Till My Aunt Got A Call From Her Mom Saying There Was A Tornado In Wadena. My Grandma Was In The Basement Place In The Hospital I Was Born In And Too My Mother And Aunts. Anyways So My Other Cousin Freaked Out As Soon As My Aunt Told Him The News. Well We All Did Sorta. But Their House Is Okay Just A Few Shingles Ripped Off. That's It. But As For The Rest Of The Town...Wow.
drove by that area 2 days latter. didnt get anywhere close to the town, was on the way to park rapids but heard people living in parkrapids becuase they had to leave wadena talking about how there is stuff in their yards and have no clue where it came from. also some lady told me she never found her car.
i loved the season finale tonight on storm chasers!! i live east of menahga mn which is about 30 miles from wadena, i remeber this day, was something i had never seen before, we knew there was tornado warnings for wadena country but didnt know for sure where abouts the tornado was, so we went for cover just to be safe, after a while i had went outside and seen something fall from the sky, it was insulation from wadena's hit, amazing how far something can travel up in the sky
i Live in Brainerd Minnesota and I remeber that day when all the storms went through Wadena then headed for Brainerd i got a funnel Cloud going over my house on camera it loooks intenese that whole month was insane for tornadoes in minnesota
EF4: 160-200 mph. Had to have been that if the intercept was just on the eastern edge of the large twister with a higher than 150 mph reading from an anemometer that had been blown clean off. Most likely had to have been 170-180 on the interior, yes?
Absolutely Amazing!! Reed and Joel Dominate again! I was able to chase the NE end of this cell, but didn't see any tubes. By far one the most intense chases I've ever been on! Great job on this epic event and the entire season! Congrats on Storm Chasers too! Sorry I've been away from TVN for so long!
I was at a fair the day it happened with my mom. I kept telling her there was going to be a Tornado today, but NOOOOO "Theres not going to be a Tornado I would feel it". GUESS WHAT?!
I heard about this, I was in Wisconsin when it happened, I got a phone call from a friend , " Oh my god! Did you hear about the tornado?! It killed to woman and a man!" I was shocked, from all my time living in MN , I have never seen or heard of such a violent storm here. Tornadoes scare the living daylights out of me, After seeing all these videos, i thank god every day, because i would be at my uncles farm at the time, which is right in the heart of that tornado. This video is awesome! :)
I was in that shit on my motorcycle! Riding back from the Black Hills SD, got stuck in this shit. I actually watched this tornado from the side of the freeway. Had to get rescued by the geneva,mn FD from the off ramp.
this happened on my birthday... i didn't even know this was happening... we didn't get anything in the minneapolis area.... I feel really bad for all the victims of that storm.
@anonimus238 That F4 was still pretty dangerous lol, as 25% of my town was missing afterwards. It was picking up headstones when it went through our graveyard!
I was at Mentor at the scene of the gas station where the man died the next morning...they were in shock...used their bathroon on the way to a farmer's market but at that time didn't know what had happened. Whoever shot this is NUTS to get that close. They are tempting fate in my book...!
I went with a team of volunteers and the destruction was hard to see. I love storm chasing but when it's this close to home it makes me wish the tornados would only touch down in empty fields...
As a resident of Minnesota I would like to thank you for risking your lives doing this research to save the lives of people in the path of storms. I was actually helping with the clean-up after this tornado hit. It was a big mess, but only 3 people died that day in Minnesota. Out of all 21 tornadoes that hit the ground, only 3 people died. If it wasn't for you guys, more people would have died.
That's my white house in frame 3.50 and the Amish farm is to the right. I spotted the tornado out of my rear sliding glass door at 4.30 and the top of it was leaning over my house and the bottom was swinging at me. I think I made it to the basement in about 3 seconds after I saw that! I thought the house was going to come down...but it turned and headed to the northeast where it eventually hit Wadena, but before it did that numerous farms were destroyed by me.
me and my friend josh were driving around in MN and WI trying to spot tornadoes but we didnt see anything but WICKED lightning. like im talking the lightning storm of a lifetime. it was beyond what i expected.
just crazy! i live not to far from Wadena and have never thought to much of weather. but when its this close to home its a real wake up call. got to respect mother nature.
i live in town waden and i was at my friends about 4 blocks from where the tornado hit and it was some scary stuff it sounded like a frait train going through wadena will never be the same again..
Thats my farmhouse to the right at minute 3.41 and after. The red barns are on the Amish farm to the east of me. I spotted that tornado outside the east side of my house at approximately 4.30 and headed to the basement when I saw the base top of the tornado leaning over my house and the base beginning to swerve also towards my house.
I live not but 30 or so miles away from Wadena. This had to be some of the scariest weather I had seen in a long time around here. I really feel for the families that had to pick up the pieces after this tornado ripped them apart.
@TheJediCharles Exactly. Just because one has a fascination and a respect for the awesome raw power that our earth can produce, does not mean one doesn't value human life. I am determined to see one this summer, and I came close tonight. We got walloped again. Beautiful greenage tonight and it got quite ominous. So amazing.
But we're good. Comments are hard to understand sometimes because you're not talking face to face. But we are on the same page. Its all good. :) No harm done.
scary stuff. this storm hit us in Wausau, but it greatly weakened to just a strong thunderstorm by the time it got to us. Seems to always happen...a storm weakens when it gets to us, or strengthens after it passes by us lol My prayers go out to the families torn upside down because of these storms!
Indubitably. I'll be needing a job application also, lol. I couldn't be a driver though, I'd wreck watching the tornado! And I totally moved to Wyoming two days shy of being able to see one!!! Damn! Looks like I'm in a perfect state for them though....here's to amateur tornado filming...lol
It is so retarded for people to say "Oh that looks like an EF4 or gotta be an F5." The Fujita Scale measures damage and calculates what the wind speed was based on the damaged caused. It has nothing to do with tornado size or what it looks like on the ground. Less than 1% of tornadoes are of EF4 strength and 0.1% are of EF5 strength. For someone to just spout off that they can tell the difference between say 198 mph wind speeds and 246 with the naked eye is just stupidity. Especially in a wedge.
minnestoa is pretty nice place to live until tornado season comes but where i live in MN, barely anything

They took the right vehicle on a storm chase. They used a Toyota. Much safer in they don't have to worry at all about it stopping.

Yet again, Scott County is missed by a storm. If you're from Minnesota, you will notice a pattern on the radars.

scary stuff. this storm hit us in Wausau, but it greatly weakened to just a strong thunderstorm by the time it got to us. Seems to always happen...a storm weakens when it gets to us, or strengthens after it passes by us lol My prayers go out to the families torn upside down because of these storms!

Like we used to say in the service- time to suck sewer - find the lowest point you can and crawl into it.
