depending on the design of the boat, you can often keep it straight by leaning the canoe away from the direction you want to turn. if you want to turn right, lean the canoe left. also, you can using the J-stroke (lots of videos on youtube).
hah i love how they have to build up the wall on the C-1s so water doesnt sink in... any one at welland regatta..i think it was the welland regatta... the burloak C-4 2 was like intensely back heavy
just to comment on the "some guys c-1 technique is not good" comment, everyone has their own style as to how the paddle. take gyorgy kolonics from hungary for example, some would say he paddles like shit, but if you look at his hips, the movement is amazing. so while it might look like people have "bad" technique, they are still going like 3:50 and doing certain things right to go that fast, silly.
Undoubtedly, the best canoe & kayak video I've seen. The usage of music, camera angles, and slow motion is really well done compared to other kayak vids I've seen on youtube. Props to the guy or girl who put this together.

Notice everardo Cristobals technique. He is not as tall or strong as all the canoeists , still he went ahead of them for more than three boats.
