This game's soundtrack is my favorite of the PC98 games. Some of these are just setting themselves up for metal remixes. Sariel's theme, anybody. Maybe it's not the BEST soundtrack, but my favorite, nonetheless.
The music from the first Touhou seems much slower and moodier as opposed to the more energetic themes from later games. Not a bad thing, though: it works well for an Arkanoid clone. :3
@Tekwerk He's not. The song "G Free" was originally found in an official Touhou remix CD called "Celestial Wizardry ~ Magical Astronomy." G Free was remixed, and near the end of the song a remixed version of this song, "Eternal Shrine Maiden," was put in. Then it loops back to the G Free remix. That's how "G Free ~ Final Dream" was created. "G Free ~ Ultimate Dream" abandons Eternal Shrine Maiden altogether and just has G Free in it.
But yeah I found that out afterwards, (infact, Magical Astronomy is my favorite ZUN album :3), I still stand by the statement that, well, G ~ Free sounds like an ESM mix. I dunno...

It wasn't even that. PC-98 was a Japanese-only computer that IIRC wasn't even made for games and was pretty much obsolete by the time Touhou came around. Which means he's even more amazing.

The main melody was based off of the ZUN original G Free. Part of it was based off of ESM, but the majority of it was based off of G Free. >_>;
