  • I love that you did this video. People just don't realize what it will be like if we don't have a vet to just run to if something happens.

  • How is the doggy doing now? Our daughter is a registered veterinary technician (an RN for animals). She's helped us save alot on vet bills but we still spent too much last year in that area. Can't afford to do that this year. Gotta do what needs to done!

  • @VivianRinSC that dog is doin great. thanks....4 more weeks

  • just a suggestion... try to get hold of some novocaine... in particular litocaine... syringes can be purchased at the farm supply.... litocaine not sure... anyway... you will not have to hear the dog scream, so will be able to take your time and concentrate better... plus if it is a larger dog or animal it will be a HUGE help... easy to muscle around a small dog, but not so much others... please update us on how this worked out!

  • You're the man Sam, that is great to know how to do stuff like that!!!

  • I agree with taking dog to vet and getting the leg set correctly... xray etc. However, I respect your care and love for the animal even though the dog screaming in pain makes me uneasy. In the event of SHTF how will we care for man's best friend? I guess it depends on how you guys want to look at it. Ironhead provided pain relief and set the dogs leg... I bet the dog will be fine... do followup video ironhead!

  • Hey, ironhead, could you help me with a problem that i've been having with my chickens? One morning my mom heard my chickens scwaking and all that stuff. Turns out a raccoon was killing one of them. It wasn't in the coop, but it reached in and killed it. Then 2 days ago, when me and my dad were going to to shoot our guns at the range, we got a call from my brother, telling me that there was a rabid raccoon, (because it was out in the day) was trying to get one of em, but it failed, thank the lord

  • @gunsndrums1 set up a livetrap with a hot dog as bait. I had the same thing happen shot him with a .22

  • @NotAnotherVictim will do thank you.

  • There's nothing wrong with doing it yourself. Why pay the so called experts? We should all be experts ourselves. Knowledge has become compartmentalized and it shouldn't be. This should be common knowledge!! Just like growing plants and raising animals... and children, lol. Now people are more worried about what their favorite celebrity is doing instead of what REALLY matters. Great job ironhead and daughter!! Hope it heals properly!!

  • @maofive i couldnt agree with you more.......thanks my friend

  • @penguinistas to be fair 100 yrs ago (1912) they probably would have put the dog down, a bigger dog they would have tried to set the bone but it is so iffy on a little thin leg like that they would have either taken the leg or the life

  • :(

  • gosh that hurt to watch... I hope it works. Poor little thing.

  • Glad to see you fix that. Hope it works for ya. Please keep us updated.

  • hope to see a vid in six weeks on her running or at least walking correctly? That is if we all are able to get internet or have not been 86% depopulated.

  • Good Job. People are too scared to do anything without paying a doctor. Great thing to know how to do

  • Sure as Heck beats "getting shot" !! I am a true die hard animal lover but you are right, and we better get used to "doing what we gotta do". Good job Ironhead.Give her head an extra rub from me!

  • Just to be clear - I'm not saying that every boo-boo needs to taken to the vet, there is lots of stuff we can do ourselves that we don't need to rush to the vet for (not everyone has one within 20 minutes from their home, what if this happened in the field to your hunting dog, etc) I was more concerned with the small bone structure, it's so easy for them to mend wrong. I hear you about the price, we took our dog in for a twisted knee and the vet wanted to cut into her straight away - all she n

  • Poor little thing. Hope she mends quickly.

  • Hard to watch a little dog like that yelp but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. It's a hard topic but we may need to do this for people in the near future if the US government doesn't make some drastic changes.

  • its a dog.....they set its leg the best they could......if they didnt care at all they could have shot the dog and bought a new one..yes dogs are great..but if the whole family wants to eat this month the dog gets fixed at home..some say that if you dont have to money to go to the vet you should not have a animal..BS..chiuauas have thin bird bones and break legs if ya sneeze on them lol and they did what any animal doctor would have done...exept they didnt get a xray and charge $300!

  • @townfori We are talking about a broken bone here... there is no infection, at least not yet. Yes, they should keep an eye on it. As for pain meds, yes, that would be nice, but not necessary. They did the right thing here. If it looks like it isn't healing properly, then they should take it to the vet. No need to waste money on the procedure you can do at home.

  • Did he say at the end here is some more Tylenol? When given to a dog, it can cause serious liver damage. When given to a cat, it changes their hemoglobin, the oxygen-carrying component of the blood, to met-hemoglobin, which cannot carry oxygen. As a result, they literally suffocate and die very quickly.

Also how did you set it ? did you Just pull and let it fit back like a puzzle piece? Just for SHTF info I need more info on setting it. or did ya just splint it?

  • @john762x39 my daughter set it before i turned the camera on......

  • @john762x39 It is quite acceptable to give dogs ASA. It does not damage the liver and is great for older dogs with arthritis.

  • @Emsworker68 I thought he said Tylenol(acetaminophen) not Aspirin (AcetylSalicylic acid)

Its my understanding that Buffered Aspirin is used for pain relief, anti-inflammatory 5 mg per lg. every 12 hours in dog's but in cats its toxic.

  • @john762x39 he did say tylenol...tylenol and and aspirin both can be given to dogs in the correct amounts with no ill effects....tylenol is toxic to cats

  • @john762x39 Not sure what he said, My statement was a suggestion. Yes I only give ASA to dogs not cats. I feel it is a crime that vets charge more for a dog than what a MD charges for a person. Terrible!

  • You can make your own cast. You take strips of birch bark. Soakem in water for a few hours. Than wrap them around the leg. You can even put them right over the splint you have on the leg. Just get rid of the wrapping. Works great and it will harden up as hard as a fiberglass cast would once it is dry.

  • If the owner of the dog does not have the money to pay for proper care of the dog, then maybe he shouldn't have one.

  • @jimmyjazz240 Grow up. They didn't have a spare $300 for the vet.

  • @penguinistas Fair enough.

  • You did right, from my point of veiw its a shame what vets want to charge for simple things. Its not as bad if you have a vet in the area that works with large animals. But the new vets comeing up in the business all go into small animal practice because they know that's where the big money is.

  • @townfori Wow, that was quite ignorant. Hate to inform you, but medicines don't allow a bone to heal faster. My dog broke his leg last year and the vet asked me if I wan'ted an x-ray. the cost was $200 more. I said nope and he set the bone for $100 doing exactly what Ironhead did here minus the duct tape. The dog will be just fine.

  • Should popcicle stick or tongue depressor splint it instead inside a piece of plastic water pipe so she won`t chew it off so fast put a shoelace with 3" loop on other leg then over shoulder drill a hole to tie the lace to the small pipe 3/4 pipe should do it 4" or so long then it can use it as a leg till it heals and not keep breaking the fracture -Just keep it so it will slide on leg not to tight .worth a try .

  • Did the same thing to my son.

  • shit happens. good job ironhead41 maybe nobody flags that one. you didnt kill anything so it should be fine right?

  • You did fine!....A vet would have his or her assistant hold the dog while the leg was set and bandaged. No need for an x-ray on that one!

  • Yepr thats how u do it ! did you give her a lolly pop after wards. ?

  • Sometimes you got to do what you got to do. Lol Ironhead you gonna end up getting band again. Whats your alternate channel so I can make sure I'm subbed to it before you get banned. lol

  • @MegaWinfrey ironheadfortyone is my other channel.....LOL

  • i feel a little better knowing its not your..or should i say mamma's little doggies.. still its a tough row to hoe.

  • My dog hooked his lip on my fishing line while I was baiting my kids poles. Couldn't get the hook out so went to the vet. Those crooks wanted $400 to remove it. I told them I'd run up to the hardware store for pliers and got the price down to $50. LOL.

  • @SleestaksRule It's funny how everybody at the vet's office is SO concerned about animals until they find out they might not get any money. You're 100% right, they're crooks!

  • That puppy is gonna be just fine. Good job ironhead.

  • OMG - please take that dog in to be sure it's set properly before it knits together wrong ... Poor thing, what happened?

  • disregard all the BS comin' at you! You did your best and if these ppl only had a clue what those animals really go through in shelters they'd give you a medal. The odds of someone taking her in that condition is slim to non. She's with her family and being cared for. Hope to take to you in a bit.. Aj

  • you did it all wrong....things you need 2 popcycle stix dryer lint ya no fer da gaws so as not to ruff up her leg from the wud rubn on er and some good ol ducker tape and some ear plugs so as to not her er sqwallen when uns ruin er leg.........wow if you cant afford em dont get em

  • That wont heal right..take him to the vet..wtf is wrong with you

  • @rage340 its not my sayso cause its not my dog. its the neighbors dog. the splint came from my dog that broke her leg last year

  • @rage340 Your just being ignorant, don't you know duct tape fixes everything?! BTW that leg looked like it was set pretty decently to me, sure there is a chance of osteomyelitis or compartment syndrome but those risks are inherent with any type of fracture and even occur after professional treatment....

  • @rage340 it may not heal "right" but it should heal good enough. Think about the dog with only 2 legs on the one side of its body. I have seen the leg bones of deer that have healed without any attention where the ends were side by side instead of end to end...not everyone can afford a vet an in a SHTF situation i'd probably do he same thing.

  • @rage340 what are you the flippin nose in everyone's dog business? Get off your idiotic PETA fantasy. No one needs a wanna be pet cop.

  • @tblbaby Well retard he did post the video to be public right? so therefore it's open to comments if they are enabled right? and not providing proper medical attention to an animal is cruelty and illegal in most if not all states right?

    So go fuck yourself moron

  • @rage340 You're just another low rent cheap idiot who likes to make himself feel important by posting cheap criticism because you think pets are open for anyone to criticize on because you've seen that on TV & all the other idiot punks do it too. Well now your dealing with real people who deal with problems who don't need "professional service" for every damned thing. Ironhead knows how to deal with things, not a helpless sad moron like you. He doesn't deserve your cheap opportunist crap, so FO.

  • @rage340 its not illegal

  • tough thing but, you're right no reason to put the dog down. And she handled it like a trooper.

  • "i shot her once, its supposed to help in the healing process..... if she dont get any better i will shoot her again" ...lol sorry brother.. you know where that came from. i bet that hurt you worse than it hurt her, knowing how much you love your doggie. Good job Doc Sammy!! Now go get you a shot of some hooch to steady those nerves, and i will talk to you prolly tonight. luv ya brother.

  • thats a good thing to know how to do, hopefully she'll stay off of it and let it heal

  • ironhead, good job. i wonder what they did 100 years ago?

  • @richard1948benz 100 years ago they likely did the same thing as he did.

  • Ironhead41 If a vet turned you away because you could not pay, shame on him or her. Most vets will help you and if need be write the entire thing off as training. I've never known a vet to refuse care to an animal with a broken leg. I would recommend you find another vet. However, you did a good job at repairing her leg. However, she should get an x-ray just to make sure the fractures are in proper placement so it will heal properly.

  • awww, good job, hope she will heal well. Get well soon little girl.

    God Bless

  • good job
