It could be Forerunner construct, however, in the book "First Strike", if I recall, Cortana does fight against a Covenant construct.
I can see why it might be a Forerunner construct though, being "unusually formidable" is an intriguing phrase. At this point in time however, I don't see how it changes the overall story or anything for that matter. Cortana succeeds, that's the end of that...
and the librarian was didacts lover. she was the one responsible for us and other species surviving the array. we ARE NOT related to the forerunners at all. they adopted us and they created all AI such as mendicant bias and guilty spark, to treat us like the descending children of the forerunner. the forerunner left all they left behind to us. go to halo wiki on google and type in forerunner to find out all that there is to know about them at this time
yup its mendicant bias. the most advice AI the forerunner ever created. it was because of him that the forerunner died. he turned rampant and sided with the flood. and then the forerunner created offensive bias to stall mendicant at the ark so that the military leader of the forerunner(Didact) could start the halo array from the ark. destroying the flood and all forerunners except one. that one forerunner that lived was the librarian
Its been said before, but I'll say it as well...Mendicant Bias. After The Key Ship lands on the Ark, Mendicant rejoins with his fragments and helps you out in Halo 3.
Gravemind didn't form on High Charity until the flood pelican crashed on it around the same time chief did and it took over, and with enough dead it formed.
Ever read the Halo Graphic Novel? One of the stories in it is of a covenant group checking out a covenant ship thats been unresponsive. They find on it a room filled with corpses and they were brought there, theres also an early stage of a gravemind.
In halo 1 keyes appears to have possibly been the start of a gravemind.
gravemind cannot be mendicant bias because gravemind already existed BEFORE mendicant bias was created. Gravemind might talk through MB but he certainly is not MB. Gravemind exists when there is sufficient biomass available. Then a gravemind forms.
@BeastlyGerman An AI that was sent to disable the Gravemind, but it got corrupted by the gravemind and it betrayed the forerunner, causing them to have to activate the Halo array.
The presence that's fighting back is almost certainly Gravemind. Why is he fighting back? Simple, he doesn't want there to be any chance of the Halo rings being activated. If the forerunner ship leaves, it can reach the Ark.
Wow... Cortana says she is attempting to slow the launch sequence of said "Covenant Ship" which, as we know, is actually a Forerunner ship. She isn't talking about the ship he is on. Use your brain.
The video poster is complete loser. This is a covenant ship. You see the purple and the design and stuff, thats covenant. Always has been. You are not on the Forerunner ship during this level that you're showing. You get on that ship after this mission.
Cortana is talking about the ship Truth is taking to Earth, which you see in the last few cutscenes in Halo 2. It is undeniably Forerunner; Cortana even SAYS it's a Forerunner ship in the level High Charity. Besides, you're not even on a ship in this level; you're in High Charity, which is the entire Covenant CITY. Duh.
@Aeoxins you're a complete loser, you are playing on high charity, covenant ship, but she's trying to slow down the starting sequence from a forerunner dreadnought.
Dude, the ship is a Forerunner ship. It's a tall, grey ship with 3 spires coming out of it. It's the last place we see the Master Chief. That's what Cortana was trying to slow down, and that's where she finds the unusual "Covenant" construct.
good point i kenw that bit was fishy but i'd forgot about it by the time adjutant reflex surfaced. post this on the bungie forums it'll attract attention.

Mendicant Bias has always been with John and Cortana since she went in the cartographer on Instillation 4. Read the Cortana letters.

Mendicant Bias has always been in that ship evern since the battle at the Ark.
Iam very surprised that Mendicant Bias didnt just destroy Cortana code by code though.

Or it could be High Charity's Oracle as seen in Contact Harvest.

High charitys Orcacle is Mendicant Bias lol he just never announced it to the Prophets.
