I love some of the Old Testament stuff ..especially about King Saul/King David and the rest. King Ahab, Moses and others are spectacular figures to read. The New Testment is not near as fun but does have its moments. So what problem would there be? We atheist are almost aways better educated about the Bible than are the Christians.

He doesn't flaunt his religious beliefs so I can see why you would make your statements, but this was an incredibly impressive speech from a man who realises he must restrain his personal religious beliefs if he is to preside over a multi-religious, democratic nation, and he clearly outlined why he believed it would be best if all citizens also restrained the religious zeal.

@kurtilein The difference is that Traditional Catholics are taught to keep in mind when having sex, whether before or during marriage, that sex brings the possibility of pregnancy. Sex is going to be had, sure, but we don't believe in teaching our children or anyone else that having sex comes without consequences or responsibility. I know quite a few Traditional Catholics and we've all discussed this. Maybe you are the one who should find 20 Traditional Catholics and ask your questions.

Most of the founding fathers were either athiest, agnostic or diests. and lets not forget that the constituion calls for freedom of religion. the phrase, "seperation of church and state" comes from a letter Thomas Jefferson. I love some of the Old Testament stuff ..especially about King Saul/King David and the rest. King Ahab, Moses and others are spectacular figures to read. The New Testment is not near as fun but does have its moments. So what problem would there be? We atheist are almost aways better educated about the Bible than are the Christians.

This is why so many people think that he's a Muslim. there are LAWS that ban non-religious people from higher office in many states, including the presidency of the united states. So the option of him being an agnostic or non-religious or an atheist AND admitting it is nonexistent by law. the law is discriminatory, but it is real. I see what you see and i think the laws that force him to do it are the problem.

@Italian77721 I'm sure Obama in fact KNOWS how to read a bible--thank God. But he ALSO knows--thank God--how many OTHERS read the bible---taking little passages out of context in order to suit their little agendae. I think he's saying that 'The Nation' was not one of the goals of the bible, and so the bible should not be directly-used in shaping the nation.

@kurtilein The difference is that Traditional Catholics are taught to keep in mind when having sex, whether before or during marriage, that sex brings the possibility of pregnancy. Sex is going to be had, sure, but we don't believe in teaching our children or anyone else that having sex comes without consequences or responsibility. I know quite a few Traditional Catholics and we've all discussed this. Maybe you are the one who should find 20 Traditional Catholics and ask your questions.

I hope what Barack means when he refers to Catholic birth control is self control. As he is not Catholic, I cannot imagine that he would know what Traditional Catholics do and do not practice. It shows how little Obama truly knows.

you, as a (brainwashed) devout catholic, hope that catholics only ever have sex to make babies. but you dont know it, because you didnt actually ask a few catholics if they use contraceptives in order to have sex purely for fun. (like normal people and non-catholics do).
the truth is, most catholics use contraceptives in order to have sex for fun, also many of them have sex before marriage. studies/surveys/polls show this, ask catholics and you will find out.

@kurtilein3 Firstly, your rude accusation is unnecessary. Believing in something and being devout does not immediately make you brainwashed. If it did all human beings would be brainwashed, as we all have beliefs and are all devout about one thing or another. Secondly, perhaps it is you who should do further research. I did say Traditional (emphasis on the Traditional) Catholics. There is a vast difference between Traditional Catholics and new Order Catholics.

the funny thing is, you never really spent time thinking about it, you just allege that reality has to be the way you believe it to be because your beliefs are true. ask 20 catholics if they use contraceptives, or if they only have sex with the risk of (unwanted) pregnancy. they will answer, and you will be shocked, you will realize that reality does not always match what you want it to be. but how does this show how little obama knows?

I don't allege that reality has to fit all of my beliefs, but I can tell you Traditional Catholics do not use artificial birth control. Yes, there is sex outside of wedlock on occasion, but that wasn't my argument. Also, what business or right do you have to claim who is and who is not normal? I am Traditional Catholic, I have sex for pleasure. Most people have sex for pleasure.

@kurtilein3 How can you possibly tell me what I have and have not done? I do not believe reality is bent to my will, nor am I naive enough to think something is exactly as I would have it be. But, I do know Traditional Catholics do not make a practise of using artificial contraceptives. Yes, sex outside of marriage does happen, but that wasn't even part of my point. And what right do you have to say who is and who isn't normal? Traditional Catholics have sex for pleasure as well.

The Founding Fathers based their policies on the Bible, the Constitution was based on Scripture, Prayer was held every time a session opened, and America became the Nation that it was because of it. The fact that Obama now deliberatly turns on the very values which made America great proves that he has absolutely no love for his country and is none other than a Rabid Left Communist dedicated to a One World Order under the Tyranny of Socialism.

@ele12957returns In addition, Greenleaf's representation of the gospels as eyewitness testimony is false. They are heresay under any modern rules of evidence. His representation of them under the "ancient documents rule" is also questionable as that status goes only to their admission as evidence not to the strength of that evidence. Given that this requires the document to be used to support or impeach itself this then constitutes a circular argument and is logically of ZERO value.
