@suli542, your stuff doesnt go on the ps3 its all on the hard drive, so all the saved stuff and all the updates on your old ps3 hard drive will b the same on your new ps3
I have a new hard drive I have the plug to make it an external can I just back it up on that and put that one in the ps3 so I don't need and external?
Ok now when I want to back my info dose this still have the same settings as the new updated firmware on 2011 updated ps3 cuz this was when it barly came out lol + when your taking out you info would there be a chance of curoupted data?
I have a question, let's say I don't back up my HDD because I don't have an external HDD. If I upgrade to my new HDD, use it, and go back to my old HDD, will I be asked to format it?
Can somebody please tell me. But I have a 250gb hdd on my Xbox 360, and the 60gb hdd on my ps3. Am I able to take the 250gb hdd from my Xbox and put it into my ps3, and vice versa?? Please if anyone knows let me know k thanks bye.
hello guys I'm thinking about upgrading my ps3 60 GB to a 640gb I'm worried about losing my trophy's and saved games if i back it up does it save everything to the hard drive because otherwise i will just put up with the 60gb because i have over 900 trophy's now and really don't want to lose them thank you for all your help
@mustowe Trophies are saved to your onlline account, not to the hard drive. Although the new hard drive might read the trophies as no gotten. However you will still have them on your psn card. If you do get the same trophy again it does NOT give you credit for it twice. I hope that helped.
Once I replaced my 60gb hard drive with a 500gb (the one that this video recommended), I noticed my system will lock up occasionally for 5 seconds or so. At the same time it locks up, I noticed the yellow HDD access light stays lit constantly. It always unfreezes, but it's annoying, and distracting.
I tried re-reformatting, and I even took back the 500gb HD to Best Buy to get it swapped for another, no luck. Can someone PLEASE help me? Thanks!
Ok, so I have a problem. I have a 40Gb PS3 (fat), and I have a new 500Gb Samsung hard drive, and it;s the appropriate 2.5inch SATA drive etc. I did everything to the letter in the video, except for letting the PS3 cool down first. After replacing the hard drive and everything, I start the PS, but comes up with a message straight away saying:
"Cannot start
A compatible hard drive cannot be found." (or something along those lines).
All I can do is turn off the PS. That's it.can someone help?
@Wabisuke05 Uh yes it was. But I found a solution. I've used an old 320Gb hard drive from my old laptop. It works fine. The only difference between my current 320Gb drive, original 40Gb drive and the 500Gb drive I bought, was that the 500Gb one has an extra port connector. It was four little pins beside the normal connector... The other two drives don't have that, and looking inside the drive slot in my PS I can see that there aren't ports for those four pins. So that must have been the problem.
@JustAnime4Me lol no. It doesn't magically make your PS have backwards capability. You'll need the appropriate software updates and then download the games from PSN if you want to play PS2 or PSX games.
ive got yellow light of death on a 2008 ps3. I am considering getting a new ps3 slim...can i put that hardrive from the old ps3 and onto the new ps3 somehow?
ummmmmmm i need help. i don't have a external hardrive. i was thinking can i buy a new hardrive and put it into my friends ps3 then transfer it my ps3's memory into his then when it done take the new hardrive outta my friends's ps3 and put it back to mine?
@MrSupernice10 I don't think so. You'll back up all your files on a external HDD. Just upgrade your HDD I changed my 40 gb for a 320 without any problem
when i installed my new 320gb hard drive onto my ps3 40gb.... i keep getting a message reading need updated ver. of 3.66 or later.... so how do i update my new drive if it doesn't run?

@MrJohn580 go to the playstation website and download the current firmware to a usb drive. when you boot up the ps3, (with the usb carrying the update plugged in), press START and SELECT at the same time, and it'll load the update, then you can continue on and load the back-up data. hope this helps anyone who reads this.

I have a 40GB ps3 and when I was about to download the new black ops map pack is says there's no space...though there's 14GB\38GB space...so if I upgrade my ps3 hard drive will the data I left on the old hard drive go away? PLEASE HELP!
@xXxTheDemonBossxXx Yes if you do not back up all of the things that you would like to keep then it will be gone. Unless the things that you want to save are just your games then if you have PS Plus you can save all of them online. I have done it and it can be a pain but it is worth it!
I'm running out of memory on my ps3 so I was wondering if I were to restart my playstation would I get all my memory back ,, just like when I got it???
@dragnfr39 because thats pretty common knowledge in pc community. If you can't format a drive what made you believe you could go out and upgrade you're own ps3 hard drive in the first place. Beside they didn't go into depth with that because that is on the pc end and that is only for backing up save data ect. Not what the video is actually about.
@badams2190 i built my pc. i know how to format a hard drive. and ur right its "common knowledge in the pc community" but wer talking about playstation3. unless these people derived from pc gaming, i assume alot of them dont know how to format a drive.
half the people watching this video are people who have a full drive on there ps3 and cant play anymore games cuz it wont fit. so people like this need to know how to format. that is y i expected it in this video.
@maxythecuber It has to be laptop as a regular drive is too big for it. A regular Laptop SATA drive will work. I have the Hitachi 750 GB drive and it works great. 0J11563 is the model number for that particular hitachi drive, but there are plenty of 2.5" SATA drives out there. You can use a 7200 RPM, but mine is 5400 RPM. The factory drive is 5400 RPM and that's what Sony recommends.
Yeah, this is gonna sound dumb but where can I buy the enclosure for the old HD I'm gonna end up having? I mean, I could use the extra external HD for my netbook...
all over the internet. newegg amazon ebay etc. just google it. if you want to buy it in stores, bestbuy should do it. just make sure it is ps3 compatible. people will usually point it out though
Just 2-3 days ago i swapped my 40gb for a 500gb 2.5inch western digital SATA 5400 rpm hard drive....i opened the 500gb hard drive box and it turned out it was a 640gb hard drive w/ a letter saying i was rewarded an extra 140gb of free space....so basically im just bragging here but i hope it gives you an idea on what to buy ;) XD
@Waye7 if you have a basic knowledge of computers then google fat32format.exe download and click on the link to the ridgecorp website, and follow the directions
@Waye7 connect the external to your computer. once its done loading any plug n play, right click MY COMPUTER. click MANAGE. once a window opens, double click DISK MANAGEMENT. you will find your external listed there as well as yoru C drive and D drive. Right clik your external (assuming you have nothing important stored in the external and only want to format it as fat 32) hard drive and click FORMAT. follow the wizard box and you will be asked for a format, change it from NTFS to FAT32. tada:)
@Waye7 Either that or go to MY COMPUTER and right click on your external hard drive and click FORMAT, and a small windows will appear. check the "quick format" box and change the format from NTFS to FAT32. Hope this helps man.
guys I need help I forgot my ps3 account password but that's not the real problem "I can't get it back" what I want to know is If I backed up data to other HDDs will I still keep my account and trophies ?
will the storage size of the Hard drive determine compatability with my 40gb PS3? i want to upgrade but i don't want to get a drive and find out it doesn't work. so as long as it's a SATA 2.5" drive it'll work?
What a waste of bytes. A video which simply repeats what Sony printed in the small manual coming with the PS3. Oh, and they forgot to describe how to restore ones data (not that it's hard).
Also - I wish Microsoft would let you do this on the 360 but oh no one must buy their hugely overpriced drives :-(
@BlindZenDriver Not a waste of space. Clearly this video has helped many people. Some people are better learning things visually and its better to see this on video before trying out yourself.
@BlindZenDriver Not a waste at all, im changing my hard drive now and this has helped greatly.. not to mention that my ps3 user manual is probably long gone now and i don't really have the time to find it.
@FatherTime89 yes you can do that. all flashdrives are fat 32 format. and you dont need a cable you put the flashdrive into a usb port in front of the PS 3 follow the instructions to save data and then put the flashdrive into a port in your computer and follow those instructions also.
(!HELP ME!) I had gone to to playstation's site; it informed me that I would need to create a folder on my external hard drive for update data. Is this necessary for older models.
ok i got the yellow light of death on my old one i am getting a ps3 slim can i put the one hard drive with the brokeing one in the slim and buck up all that one in the ps3 slims hard drive?
Can anyone tell me how to format an external hard drive to "FAT32".
I got an external hard drive, and when I plugged it into my PS3, it didn't recognise it. So I plugged it into my computer, right mouse-clicked on it (in My Documents), chose "Format....", and in "File System" all it had was either "NTFS" or "exFAT", but no FAT32.

I am getting a 800100f2 error when i try to do a full format of my hard drive. My ps3 also freezes up when trying to load games but it plays blu rays fine. Is it a hard drive problem? can i fix it by replacing hte hard drive?
My ps3 freezes and has weird lines coming our of every thing with these strange pixels can some one please tell me what it is and how I can fix it? Plz and thanks gamer tag is lopez061
Can someone help? my ps3 keeps freezing after about 1 1/2 hours of gameplay....it shows random pixels and weird lines.......i've heard replacing the hard drive will wix, is this true? thanks
Eh I wanna host mw2 challenge lobbies is there a way I can hook my ps3 hdd up to my computer and replace the patch with the hacked one plz reply I'll get u in a lobby free If u give me a good answer and leave ur psn name
Hmmm, why did I get a message saying that the PS3 could not boot properly without the proper version update? Why did I have to go to Sony and download the 3.5 version update to an external drive, in a special folder, to get the system to start?
Why was this a pain in the butt? Now, I'm willing to bet, based on your faulty video, that I'm gonig to be missing more than I think. Thanks for noth'n.

will the storage size of the Hard drive determine compatability with my 40gb PS3? i want to upgrade but i don't want to get a drive and find out it doesn't work. so as long as it's a SATA 2.5" drive it'll work?

SLUSK94 1 year ago
What a waste of bytes. A video which simply repeats what Sony printed in the small manual coming with the PS3. Oh, and they forgot to describe how to restore ones data (not that it's hard).
Also - I wish Microsoft would let you do this on the 360 but oh no one must buy their hugely overpriced drives :-(

@BlindZenDriver Not a waste of space. Clearly this video has helped many people. Some people are better learning things visually and its better to see this on video before trying out yourself.
risingphoenix86 1 year ago
@BlindZenDriver Not a waste at all, im changing my hard drive now and this has helped greatly.. not to mention that my ps3 user manual is probably long gone now and i don't really have the time to find it.

this is great now i can go buy a new hard drive and install it myself thanx

@cortes1988 Can you give me like a shopping list on what to buy so i can replace my hard drive
sean78921 1 year ago
@sean78921 Sure
1) Screwdriver. (anything that can fit the screw)
2) External hard drive (to back up your files I think a flash drive can work as well)
3) your new hard drive. (Amazon.com has good prices on 250 500 and 320GB's )
cortes1988 1 year ago
@cortes1988 Yea but since my hard drive crashed can i still back up my files???
sean78921 1 year ago

Can you back up the data onto a laptop, is there a way to make sure it's phat32 (sp)?
Also what cable do you need for that?
FatherTime89 1 year ago
@FatherTime89 yes you can do that. all flashdrives are fat 32 format. and you dont need a cable you put the flashdrive into a usb port in front of the PS 3 follow the instructions to save data and then put the flashdrive into a port in your computer and follow those instructions also.

Does anyone know what to do??????

Hmmm, why did I get a message saying that the PS3 could not boot properly without the proper version update? Why did I have to go to Sony and download the 3.5 version update to an external drive, in a special folder, to get the system to start?
Why was this a pain in the butt? Now, I'm willing to bet, based on your faulty video, that I'm gonig to be missing more than I think. Thanks for noth'n.

Will I still earn trophies if I hadn't complete a game yet and decide to play it after the operation.
MrPrGustavo 1 year ago
@MrPrGustavo Yes you will still earn trophies
The trophies are on your profile and you’re copying your saved games
That is the point of backing up your system
