what the sam hell? that last men strike was amazing! had to rewind it twice. if i only had half the spirit he does. truly inspiring stuff. all respect to that man
I'm not a martial artist, but I've actually followed this gentleman's career since age 8. I remember reading an article on his debut at the 1986 Boston Judo Championships. He was considered a charity-case: a triumph just to qualify. He not only won the initial match, but swept the competition. Audience members reportedly broke-out in tears-and-cheers and walked away shaken. He was defeated in the Finals, when his opponent swept his prosthetics out from under him.
Mr. Smalls has developed his own martial art style based on his personal physiology.
His small-stature, movement, and low center of gravity; takes advantage of the trained techniques and kata (muscle-memory) of his fully-able-bodied black-belt opponents.
I don't respect him one single damn because he's handicapped. I respect him because he could literally kill my limb-enabled-ass should he desire to. And I respect that.
i dont think that he should be allowed to do kendo. i mean, i give him credit for doing it ya know, but how in the hell does he pass tests? i think that is so BS!! "oh, just cause he has no legs, we have to treat him different...." only in america...
now i also wonder how ge can pass test but there is absolutely no reason why he cant compete in tournaments, i can see that he is a fine fighter being as he can beat other kendoka. what you say is stupid and only shows how very ignorant you are, its obvious that nobody treats him any different in a fight
I remember that shiai, it was in Paris for the Goodwill matches in the WKC. We were seated in the grades in friday waiting for the competitions next saturday and sunday. When Henry made his second ippon, the Pierre de Courbartin Stade, almost felt with the 2 minutes claps!. Very interesting and full respect for Henry. Thanks for upload it!
dropkick him! get horizontal on his ass.\
methinks if there were no rules to this sport that this would be a pretty quick match.

障害者だろうと健常者だろうと勝負は勝負。健常者以上の不撓不屈の精神が氏にはある。健常者以上の苦痛を伴う修練が必要であったろうから。その成果であろうか、2本目の面は特に見事。

Awesome. This is a proof that kendo is much more than drawing a "bamboo stick". He IS a kendoka.

From an early Kung Fu magazine article I've read:
Mr. Smalls has developed his own martial art style based on his personal physiology.
His small-stature, movement, and low center of gravity; takes advantage of the trained techniques and kata (muscle-memory) of his fully-able-bodied black-belt opponents.
This is evolution in action.
