SERIOUSLY, why do we always need to put people of 'extraordinary' traits and characters through a series of (almost) useless tests??
So what if we know what is lacking in Kim's brain? Or the existence of extra, peculiar structures? Do these tests even come close to making OUR lives and this planet better?
N.O.
So please, for whatever's sake, all of you 'scientists' and 'experts', go do something really meaningful, and NOT keep repeating useless tests that don't make your lives special.
@jalle88 Yoiur whole online retarded comment only proves idiots like YOU come to 'understand' and 'defend' those so-called 'knowledgeable' idiots like scientists and 'researches'.
"...in fact do something meaningful"? WHAT is the 'thing' that is MEANINGFUL? Why don't you just elaborate and state as a matter-of-fact, instead of trying to be smart but end up being a hollow smartass?
@Beginningless Ok, as a neurology student,I'm quite offended by that. We study Kim brain for many reason. Those test isnt' useless, by studying Kim brain and his uncanny memory. We could try and somehow link it to Alzheimer, the exact opposite of Kim. Perhaps somehow the ''missing'' part of Kim brain is the answer to the perfect memory.
ITs amazing the loving care Fran gave Kim. It must have been hard emotionally AND economicly, but he still only had Kims best in mind no matter how much patience it took. People are sad that Kim is now dead, and so am I, but we got to remember that his father was over 80 years and would soon be incapable of taking care of his son. Kims best part of life would probably soon had been over anyways.
It is quite possibly that they touched noses by accident on account of Hoffman's large nose and Peek's habit for putting his face too close to other peoples.
how awsome that actors directors are looking at him like he something special when they make movies that are suppose to make movies that are awsome... and they trying to be like him
@jansenescu Poor him? his father is an extraordinary man,he was absolutely wonderful and loving. He expressed great joy in being around people and answering their questions, he took great pleasure from interaction with other people in the only positive way he knew, he loved it. He was a wonderful man : ) and his father aswell. :D
@jansenescu poor guy? he's looked at with awe by just about everyone that sees him and after rain man came out he was very confident.. dude that guy had a pretty cool life
@Guildwars55 exactly, there are 110 who have "liked" the janenescu comment but they surely don't see the simple picture being presented in this program. They just see human suffering in everything which is noble, but pathetic
@jansenescu Kim and his father probably agreed with Dustin Hoffman when he told them to share his gift with the world. I think putting it the way you put makes it sound like he didn't want to travel the world and meet people which I think is inaccurate. May he rest in peace indeed, his influence on the understanding of the brain will continue to live on as well as the way he interacted with everyone with compassion.
That's so terrible. Such a wealth of knowledge and not to mention a gem to science, and that's all gone now. :( He was also such a pure-hearted person, like a child. I guess that means he was sinless, like Jesus, hehe. He deserved to live a full life. :(
He only knew what he read in a book. If you want to know that question read it in a book. If there is no book on your question then he wouldn't know the answer to it. But he died in 2009.
@ALEG0Man360 yup, because of a heart attack... poor guy. If only he was socially inclined like daniel tammet then he could be the brain of the world. May he rest in peace.

because you can only experience the joys of life if you have some worth upon society. I know people who are 'normal' and untalented who provide nothing to society in return, but I'm sure are totally 'happy' in their mundane existence.
this man is awesome, one of a kind, and all that idiots that think that his ability is useless or that he is not special, are just jealous, and above all he is a really sweet and nice guy.
You have a small point ..then again that would mean so is the internet...
But you got to see the big picture..the capacity of a human brain and how us (so called normal people ) have something that kind of clouds of learning and seeing things in a diffrent way
His trivial knowledge is barely applicable and without his father he would probably be living in group home. Us "normal" people don't have these abilities so we can interact socially and band together to accomplish things. Without society's advances and protection, Kim would have withered and died early on. Secondly, you saying the internet is useless information is completely idiotic. It is full of applicable knowledge that can be used to complete tasks and is also a useful communication tool.
being famous... thats one profession he seems to be doing extremely well... and getting grants for being a study object.. the man holds the keys to unlocking more of what our brains are capable of
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I'm not jealous of him, I can wipe my own ass, have a job, wife, hobbies, children and experience all the joys of life that make us humans. I was just making the point that his talent is of no consequence.
Maybe a wife wasn't a good example. Monogamy doesn't really mix well with our species, it's just some institution based on abstaining from primal urges created by the powers that be. But, a relationship with your children seems truly special. The only thing I would miss if I were him were the meaningful relationships we hold with the world around us. Don't get me wrong, I know he has them, but I don't think he can be as intimate or as deeply involved as "normal" people have the ability to.
Why should he need to? If he is happy then what is the problem? Sure life can always be better, but that goes for everyone all the time and as long as the human race keeps on living. Infact, by the looks of it he is more happy than most of us are.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
But sure is a waste to the society if all he does in his life are reading books and answering kids' qn. With his talent, more can be done. Having a million dollar would be very useful too... even for him.
lol you probably have a shitty job a fat nasty wife no hobbies ugly fat children and you are a miserable person. You have no room to talk about someone like Kim Peek because you are a fucking retard not him. dont reply back i dont care what lies your going to come up with about your worthless life loser.
I go to college, I'm 6'5'' and slender and have been told that I should be an Abercrombie and Fitch model by my female acquitances. However, In lieu of all that, I'm a morbid fuck with very strong and widely unaccepted convictions.
well, I guess I would take a video of myself to prove it. Maybe a few screen shots of the conversations where I've been told those things, but then I guess that would mean you won.
R.I.P. Kim Peek, a truly remarkable human being who has graced us all with a reminder of the amazing capacity of the human brain.
To Fran Peek, you are one of the most devoted fathers I have ever seen. 58 years raising and supporting Kim despite all the skeptical psychologists who told you years ago to just institutionalize your son. Thank you for not giving up.~
whats the big deal on the beethoven V thing...any normal person can make that wierd connection if they thought about it ,,,doesnt really mean anytrhing
The interesting part is the Morse code connection. DOT DOT DOT DASH is Morse for the letter "V". "V" is Roman numeral for 5. Beethoven's Fifth symphony sounds like DOT DOT DOT DASH. That requires a bit of knowledge, plus connections that I certainly didn't see. Like most ideas, they are easy once you get them. The trick is thinking of it first.
I think the point was that most don't connect those pieces of information together. Any one of us may have known those facts in isolation, but the fact that he did connect those things and probably many others (if we all had the opportunity to explore his mind completely), makes his way of thinking extraordinary. It was an hour special explaining an obviously complex individual... no matter how simple we (some) may "think' he is. Kudos to Kim Peek. RIP.
oh wow numbers ouch. so theres a drop in growth of population? its called a more widespread use of contraception. not everyone fucks their sisters and aunts bareback like u seem to do out in texas....
and island? wtf? just cos we hate england doesnt mean we dont still have borders with them. thats like saying indonesia, japan, australia and even ur own precious hawaii are all apparently inbred as well
see at the end of the video the film maker guy doesnt get what kim means. kim says ROCKY MARCIANO and the guys like "its burgess meredith" but kim was quoting from rocky =P
Are you kidding? You're questioning the movie trivia banter between a walking encyclopedia and a Hollywood screenwriter?
Burgess Meredith played "Mickey", Rocky's trainer. It's perplexing that you could spell his name correctly, presume to know about "Rocky" and still not know that he was one of its stars.
IMDb, Google, Wikipedia - pick your poison, but a few seconds of research might just save you some embarrassment.
"The film maker guy" is obviously not the one who "doesnt get" it.
i know that u dumb fuck. i was pointing out that the movie guy didnt understand why kim said "rocky marciano" ive seen all the rockys i know what im talkin about dumbass
If you're really smart enough to know exactly what the context of a 6 second clip is, then I'm sure there's a bright future for you as an analyst somewhere.
I would assume that maybe Kim was quoting Mickey and Barry was identifying the actor who made the quote. But, I suppose that would be too simple an explanation for someone as perceptive as yourself.
Your first comment might have made you sound like a simple-minded jerk, but your second one removed all doubt.
Since when did a suggestion with words like "assume" and "maybe" turn into "giving a history of the film?"
Can you do anything other than regurgitate insults? What about an actual argument? Some quotes, maybe? Anything!
The only new thing you've brought to the table since your first comment is, "ive seen all the rockys." Who hasn't? I guess that MIGHT be considered an accomplishment for someone who's 22. Congrats. Now, get over it and say something substantive!
I wonder if they got the idea for the movie Limitless from seeing this guy.

because you can only experience the joys of life if you have some worth upon society. I know people who are 'normal' and untalented who provide nothing to society in return, but I'm sure are totally 'happy' in their mundane existence.
but hey, at least they can wipe their ass.

this man is awesome, one of a kind, and all that idiots that think that his ability is useless or that he is not special, are just jealous, and above all he is a really sweet and nice guy.

pretty useless talent, unless he's goin on game shows
necrofagg0t 2 years ago
You have a small point ..then again that would mean so is the internet...
But you got to see the big picture..the capacity of a human brain and how us (so called normal people ) have something that kind of clouds of learning and seeing things in a diffrent way
cyborgrat 2 years ago
His trivial knowledge is barely applicable and without his father he would probably be living in group home. Us "normal" people don't have these abilities so we can interact socially and band together to accomplish things. Without society's advances and protection, Kim would have withered and died early on. Secondly, you saying the internet is useless information is completely idiotic. It is full of applicable knowledge that can be used to complete tasks and is also a useful communication tool.

I'm not jealous of him, I can wipe my own ass, have a job, wife, hobbies, children and experience all the joys of life that make us humans. I was just making the point that his talent is of no consequence.
necrofagg0t 2 years ago
wife and children?.... I'm not sure that's a joy of life... and I'm not sure that makes you "human"....
How many divorces last year in usa?
brasil1843 2 years ago 9
Maybe a wife wasn't a good example. Monogamy doesn't really mix well with our species, it's just some institution based on abstaining from primal urges created by the powers that be. But, a relationship with your children seems truly special. The only thing I would miss if I were him were the meaningful relationships we hold with the world around us. Don't get me wrong, I know he has them, but I don't think he can be as intimate or as deeply involved as "normal" people have the ability to.
necrofagg0t 2 years ago 2
Why should he need to? If he is happy then what is the problem? Sure life can always be better, but that goes for everyone all the time and as long as the human race keeps on living. Infact, by the looks of it he is more happy than most of us are.

But sure is a waste to the society if all he does in his life are reading books and answering kids' qn. With his talent, more can be done. Having a million dollar would be very useful too... even for him.

In what way could they harness his talents for a greater good then what he is already doing?

I go to college, I'm 6'5'' and slender and have been told that I should be an Abercrombie and Fitch model by my female acquitances. However, In lieu of all that, I'm a morbid fuck with very strong and widely unaccepted convictions.

What a great special man. And not to forget about his father, it must be very tough to do what he does.

whats the big deal on the beethoven V thing...any normal person can make that wierd connection if they thought about it ,,,doesnt really mean anytrhing
Screatus 2 years ago
The interesting part is the Morse code connection. DOT DOT DOT DASH is Morse for the letter "V". "V" is Roman numeral for 5. Beethoven's Fifth symphony sounds like DOT DOT DOT DASH. That requires a bit of knowledge, plus connections that I certainly didn't see. Like most ideas, they are easy once you get them. The trick is thinking of it first.
randysrandy 2 years ago 3
I think the point was that most don't connect those pieces of information together. Any one of us may have known those facts in isolation, but the fact that he did connect those things and probably many others (if we all had the opportunity to explore his mind completely), makes his way of thinking extraordinary. It was an hour special explaining an obviously complex individual... no matter how simple we (some) may "think' he is. Kudos to Kim Peek. RIP.

Scotland's census:
1971: 5,234,000
1981: 5,180,200
1991: 5,083,000
2001: 5,062,011
2008 estimates put the number back at 5,168,500, so while the trend is reversing, it has yet to surpass it's high of almost 40 years ago.
Surprising that someone on an island would want to open the "inbred" can of worms.
If you want, we could compare America's census stats, as well as the difference in immigration numbers between the countries.
Or, you could just learn to take a joke.

see at the end of the video the film maker guy doesnt get what kim means. kim says ROCKY MARCIANO and the guys like "its burgess meredith" but kim was quoting from rocky =P
lostcaus 2 years ago
Are you kidding? You're questioning the movie trivia banter between a walking encyclopedia and a Hollywood screenwriter?
Burgess Meredith played "Mickey", Rocky's trainer. It's perplexing that you could spell his name correctly, presume to know about "Rocky" and still not know that he was one of its stars.
IMDb, Google, Wikipedia - pick your poison, but a few seconds of research might just save you some embarrassment.
"The film maker guy" is obviously not the one who "doesnt get" it.
=P
cardinalduo 2 years ago
i know that u dumb fuck. i was pointing out that the movie guy didnt understand why kim said "rocky marciano" ive seen all the rockys i know what im talkin about dumbass
lostcaus 2 years ago
If you're really smart enough to know exactly what the context of a 6 second clip is, then I'm sure there's a bright future for you as an analyst somewhere.
I would assume that maybe Kim was quoting Mickey and Barry was identifying the actor who made the quote. But, I suppose that would be too simple an explanation for someone as perceptive as yourself.
Your first comment might have made you sound like a simple-minded jerk, but your second one removed all doubt.
cardinalduo 2 years ago
and ur the one who's giving a history into the film? take ur head from between ur mums fat thighs and open ur fucking eyes
lostcaus 2 years ago
Since when did a suggestion with words like "assume" and "maybe" turn into "giving a history of the film?"
Can you do anything other than regurgitate insults? What about an actual argument? Some quotes, maybe? Anything!
The only new thing you've brought to the table since your first comment is, "ive seen all the rockys." Who hasn't? I guess that MIGHT be considered an accomplishment for someone who's 22. Congrats. Now, get over it and say something substantive!
