  • After HTML 5, the next should be HTML 6 and so on: P

  • I'm using Ubuntu 10.10, Firefox 6.0.2 Stable and have joined the Youtube HTML5 test, this video does not play.

I have these add-ons installed, Adblockplus, Request Policy and Quick Java with Flash disabled if it makes a difference. :shrugs:

  • Thank you for this video about HTML5. Thank you Google for developing a good video.

  • HTML5 is great

  • This video is useful.

  • WHAT THE HELL. THE SOUND IS HORRIBLE

  • When I am trying to open Facebook via google I get this message and can not open . Can you please help me ? 'your current security setting do not allow you to send HTML forms'

  • It would be nice if Google would let IETF know that the passing of certain functions to css is actually a bad move. Relative to the center tag which should stay with html. Many of the new tags that are available to html5 actually repeat functions. Relative to: how many tags do we need to create a font size. Please talk to the IETF and tell them they have no idea what they are doing. Talk to creators and developers of other browsers. Ask them to stand up for better security standards.

  • you tube needs to allow links to be posted in the comment box. I hate the fact that they filter it! I'm getting tired of having to do "w w w dot sick of this shit dot com" crap!

  • Too bad you can't do HTML in comment boxes...That would be great! #WIN

  • GET THIS: THIS FUKING AUTO PLAY IS FUKED UP. GET THIS SHIT OUT OF HERE!! CAN YOU FUCKING HEAR!!!

  • #ftw

  • @buntstift44 FTW #FTW

  • google gona be = microsoft

  • Just-Cause 2 gameplay is better than any game on the marketplace right this moment! Their physics essentially helps make the game better compared to just about any other. From killing terrorists, to flying airplanes, it's simply just fantastic. If you want to try it for totally free, go to JC2DownloadXcom (replace X with . ).

  • i think the future in video procesing is using the video card to decode hd like nvidia cuda if the download speed is not the issue

  • Here are the facts about the h.264 codec, end users don't pay for it, neither video uploaders nor viewers

Free internet video (like youtube) pay barely anything for it

Browser vendors on the other hand do pay for it which is why Mozilla wont play ball

The patent is held by a group of companies including Apple, Sony and Microsoft.

I was shocked to find this out too, please read the full article as there seems to be a lot of confusion over the matter

    tulesblog(dot)com/h264-license-explained

  • @tuleo554 Download videos from iTunes & you pay for it. Apple wants h.264 becuz they get part of the license fees.

Google & Apple colluded together in order to influence h.264 web development. That's now broken as the preliminary HTML5 Standard will have no default codec.

Ogg is embedded in Firefox chrome engine. A firefox Ogg plugin is already in over 16% of IE browsers (Safari has one too). Firefox is installed cross platform on 25% of Macs & PC's. So browsers are more Ogg ready than h.264!

  • yeah man, I know Apple get part of the license fee.

I'm not saying that trying to profiteer from codecs is a good thing, far from it, I'm all for open standards but Ogg is just not a great quality codec atm

With regards to your Itunes comment you're kinda right but not really, you're paying for the fact that you're downloading a video it has nothing to do with the codec

Vendors are charged fees if they are selling h.264 video for e.g. Brightcove charge you for video then pay a fee on that

  • @tuleo Ogg is a great multi-layered codec itself. Theora is being developed as a video layer w/in the codec. It's not perfect yet for HD web streaming, but Game developers (Unreal Tournament, etc) have been using it for years.

h.264 is only "Open Platform"! NOT Open Source or Free. It is also capable of having DRM in it, unlike Oggs. Which are certified DRM FREE!

Also h.264 although free licensed now, has a poison pill Trojan Horse date for fees to kick in, by 2016. It's Evil will kick in too!

  • @tuleo554 BTW... Google has skunkworks developers working on x.264 (h.264 avc clone) and Ogg Theora on the side. Since the browser makers stalemated on HTML5 w/o any default codec standards.

It's been estimated that by the time HTML5 is in wide use, Ogg Theora will be vastly improved & more than capable of comparable results to h.264!

Which by then will be inundated w/ DRM (Digital Rectal Manipulation) to soothe Corporate content provider's and their industry Wigs & Suits (pen pushers)!

  • I didn't know that Kroneage thanks for the info

I really hope ur right about Ogg matching h.264 for quality and filesize

btw since x264 actually encodes h.264 standard video is it not covered by the patent?

    this is a complex issue!

  • @tuleo554 Do you know Google's purchase of On2 was finalized recently? They'll most likely drop MPEG LA license & use VP8 to encode their own YouTube videos instead of h.264.

They're also expected to Open Source it. It's rumored Google & Mozilla are shunning Apple's call for complete control of HTML5 web content w/ an eventual over abundance of DRM in h.264!

To counter this they'll likely embed VP8 in their browsers (as Ogg is now). Google's move to shine a light on Apple's Evil intent!

  • Yeah I had heard they had but I would be surprised if they just switched youtube to VP8 one day, it would be an absolutely mammoth task re-encoding all the video

I really really hope they do open source VP8 and I would say that they didn't purchase it for no reason esp at this critical time

Don't forget that Google have traditionally been fairly pally with Apple but I would be surprised if they supported their desire to profiteer from h.264

this is the main problem with html5 atm

  • Also to answer your question on x264. It's an Open Source Library codec, so if their was any actual MPEG LA content, you'd know it. The container is .mp4. It's the proprietary encoder/decoder that's licensed. Use a different encoder to get to h.264, no h.264 license is needed.

Like VP8 using the browser's embedded x.264 libraries to encode to h.264 in an mp4 container, in the very near future!

In effect, they're cutting off Apple's Evil control of content coming w/ iPlatform's iPad! ;-)

  • I use x264 to encode my videos now and the container is avi

I need to read up on the specifics of what you can get away with regards to h.264, I know the license is tight

corporate profiteering from all video content on the net is NO solution for an open web

let's hope Google save the day!

  • Any one recall when the web was covered in cheap animation like spinning logos made in java script ... Man that sucked so bad... Then Flash can along and changed every thing ... People act like HTML5 is going to save ever one but it's just going to open the door for more really badly made animations... unless some comes along and packages it with a time lime , and sales it in some software that is made for animation... A Flash killer it is not, nor was Microsoft Silverlight ...

  • What with RTL support? Can you please add some RTL properties ... In javaScript for example i cant calculate the Marker right offset, I can do that in LTR not RTL.

  • Hi ! Nice video. Look at my channel. Everyone

who subscribe I SUB back !

  • the web really is basically all about these companies working together / designing protocols and standards... not so much about ground breaking technical possiblities.

  • How did they get a 59 minute video on YouTube????

  • Google own youtube

  • As of Flash CS5 Flash will be able to export iPhone apps ... Meaning Flash will be bigger than ever... Flash CS5 will be able to run on WIndows and Mac OS... mean Mac uses being the only one with a sdk for iPhone is no more...

Just google "Flash CS5" and you'll see I'm telling the truth... :)

  • I don't doubt it, but the beauty of HTML 5 is that it's already universally compatible, all new IPhones will have new enough browsers to run HTML 5 and so it can and IS being used as an IPhone development platform

    heard of nextstop? /watch?v=Jks-idxVrCs

Make an app in IPhone SDK and it will work for IPhone, make it in Flash and u need a Flash plugin, make it in HTML 5 and it will work anywhere.

Never underestimate the power of convenience, IE anyone?

  • Not true Flash CS5 will export native applications for iPhone... Meaning no Flash player need for the apps.

No Flash Plug-in needed ... just like how it can make Mac and Windows programs ... For windows it can export .EXE file...

Right about convenience but that is a two way street , programmers will use the tool that is the easiest to use to turn a quick buck... and Flash is way easy to make game, AIR apps... and timeline animation ... and Flash can make almost any thing...

  • but its not supported natively by browsers, anything that can compile can make .exe files that doesn't prove anything, HTML 5 will be the common language of the web, I don't understand how someone can support a proprietary, commercial enterprise with such passion, invested alot of time in Flash have u?

Adobe just want to make money off you make no mistake and for that they will attempt to hold things back

  • " HTML 5 is that it's already universally compatible"

    yur really misinformed

flash is present in 96% of the browsers today and will be avaible to build iphone apps

what about html5? 1. it will only be ready by 2022 , yup 12 years

2.its a mess to write large amoutn of code in

    4. fragmented tehnologies make developes go nuts

    5. its barely compatible with 20-30% of browsers , which are also still buggy and totally incomplete

6.TOO hard to code in , flash is easy and gives better results

  • *Rolls eyes at ANOTHER mention of the IRRELEVANT 2022 date*

what I meant by universally compatible is that all new browsers support it without the need for plugins, it's native and that will be the deciding factor trust me on this because I'm getting really sick of saying it!

  • oh yh 96% of browsers have flash plugin , which is a must now days

so what if html is native? its harder to code in that mess of tehnologies for developers and the result is not as good as flash

how much does it take to install flash? 30-60seconds?

  • Problems w/ Flash technology: * Information embedded in Flash is often invisible to search engines * Website reporting on Flash navigation is problematic and cumbersome * Flash breaks web usability standards * Lack of consistent cross platform support * Code embedding Flash objects doesnt pass w3c validation * Some users disable Flash to avoid flash based advertising * Website updates continually require Flash skills * Flash breaks Search Engine Site Previews

  • ur acting like being native, compliant, visible to search engines and compatible with the rest of the web is a trivial issue here leo

Flash is one big glorified hack that has exists because it was the best solution we had at the time, now we have a better one so move over sir!

I love the fact how u keep saying html5 is harder to code, how many apps have u made with html5 technologies so far huh?

Besides its not the markup but the APIs which people code in

  • so flash is a "hack" now?

funnily enough i wrote a small flash game a few hours (a platform game in which you are a ball...kinda like cod?) it was fairily easy due to my programming skills in c++/c# , however i dont see myself writing those gravity algorithms with fragmented technologies (javascript here , html to create objects , stick there some ajax , some php, add a bit of server side java code and im good to go)

flash sucks , but its a steamlined runtime for developers

  • I disagree, coding applications in Canvas wont require any require any server side script to run, stop just throwing words into the mix.

The API is pure Javascript if you feel intimidated by that it's your short coming because JS is not a hard language.

  • Html 5 the best no flash never more

  • HTML5 is what made Google Chrome possible, and Google Chrome OS is based off of Linux...

The 3D thing is cool but it is way easier to do that using Flash Papervision3d , Flash Augmented Reality and import models made in Maya3D, 3DS Max, or Blender3D...

And Flash has had the canvas script for years... What I love about the video is they are using Windows X.P. :D

  • sorry HTML 5 is not "what made Google Chrome possible", Chrome was around before it or any other browser ever supported HTML 5, and it's all well and good going on about 3D in flash but how often do u see that on the web? U need Flash plugins and it's gonna be much better for developers when theres a native rich API defined for this kinda thing rather than everyone sucking Adobe's corporate cock

and I think you've misunderstood what the canvas TAG is because it has nothing to do with flash

    WRONG

  • @AbrasionUK

In flash you create a variable call it canvas, and use the BitmapData to draw the object to the canvas... even Adobe Flex has canvas using xml... Have you seen any movies in the last 10 years ? If you have I better most off them used adobe software even the 3D movie... They use Adobe software for texture mapping. Like "Avatar" mostly made with Adobe software. Google chrome new code base has HTML5 built in to it is what I was meaning to say. I see Flash 3D stuff all the time.

  • Im not debating that Adobe is used in the film animation industry but creating a variable and calling it canvas is not the same as the canvas tag and canvas does NOT use XML, it's one of the defining characteristics, it's pure Javascript, only SVG uses XML

Google Chrome has now adopted support for HTML 5 as have a few other browsers so explain to me how this means that HTML made Chrome possible...

if a shop recently decided to start stocking bikes then bikes must have "made the shop possible"

  • @AbrasionUK

Why not I create a variable call canvas, and they create a Tag ... How is that not the same? Both had no meaning until we gave it life... The canvas Tag by itself means nothing... it the code behind the Tag that makes it work... and I can create a Class in Flash call canvas and make it equal to a short line of code called canvas...

Flash actionscript is based on javascript.

I recall using JS to make web site it sucked so bad, it's just easier to compile a swf.

  • the canvas tag has a particular API that's implemented in browsers and has nothing to do with Flash, this is ridiculous frankly I don't know why I'm having this conversation

I've PMd you with a few examples of how they are not the same thing jeez

  • want to be bored.well you have came to the right place :)

  • Google's HTML 5 Work is full of shit, i have it and its working faster nor is it better then what i had before. it sucks!!!!!!

  • audio is too quite and garbled for me..

  • Why is those people permanently "excited" about stuff that should have been already available in the early 1990s in the first place? The entire network technology is 40 years old. Its crappy, unreliable and needs powerful hard- and software to handle all its problems from the physical to the application layer. IMHO technology is held back to make more money by introducing each step slowly instead of publishing the possible stage at once.

  • Well it WAS being held back... until Google decided to change the landscape.

  • when google uses "standardize" then what they mean is "monopolize" :)

  • not at all, as a company Google has a great ethos, most of their projects are open source now INCLUDING Chrome so how did u draw that conclusion?

    Think before u speak

  • @AbrasionUK

Google uses open source ... Ya so what does prove? Nothing ...

Apple uses open source for example "Darwin" ... Hell even Microsoft started an open source project...

    Anyone recall MkLinux ?

MkLinux started as a project sponsored by Apple Computer and OSF Research Institute.

Now Google Chrome OS is based on Linux ... It the same old song, and dance just a new player...

  • this comment was in response to a guy saying "when google uses "standardize" then what they mean is "monopolize" :)"

as if there was something sinister behind it,

Googles open source projects are just an example, they're a good company their employees are some of the cleverest people in the world , they have a really good ethos and everything they release just oozes quality and good design

  • @AbrasionUK

I'm not going to debate good and evil with you

"as if there was something sinister behind it"

see how many believe Satan was created by God...

Evil some times comes from good things... ;) e=mc2 cough cough ... atomic bomb

  • ok this is turning into a philosophy lesson, which is probably not what u want because I have a degree in Philosophy! Seriously though, Google are well aware that the only reason they are in the top stop is because they listen and respond to the publics needs and aren't a traditional "rape the world to fill our pockets" corporation

  • But you may not see it yet but they are all slowly killing the need for small time programmers. They simplified code to the point you can't even get web jobs any more. Making more open is only going to magnify the problem. Less and less geeks are able to make a quick buck. Google, Linux, BSD give things away for free. a small programmer can't compete with that. The truth is they make money from advertising. a monetary based economy is doomed. last chose is a Resource Based Economy...

  • I agree with u in a sense but I dont think you should hold technology back just so you can make money out of it, the Luddites complained when the industrial revolution came along because they said it would reduce the demand for workers, but would you back now?

So your argument is essentially because Flash is awkward and holding technology back we should stick with it?

Come one man, those with initiate will move with the times and make their living anyway

  • Most web sites are made in Adobe Dreamweaver, or Adobe Flash, and many company will not hire you if you don't have knowledge in Adobe PhotoShop. So ya I put a lot of time into Adobe many artist do.

Adobe, and Autodesk are the two companies that are pushing Art, and movie industry forwards.

HTML5 will be added to Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 making Adobe money...

Googles goal is to win trust, and run advertising. Google is not your friend... they are in it for one reason " money ".

  • I'm sure Photoshop will remain as a standard for visual editing, Dreamweaver is nothing more than a glorified code editor, don't tell me about the features cuz I know, it is convenient. Adobe do produce good creative software I'm not debating that but it's not an ideal situation to have to download a plugin to make stuff work, or to have to pay through the nose for the software. Im done debating now but the next few years will prove me right

  • Google this "html5 2022"

And Adobe didn't make Flash or DreamWeaver ...

  • yeah you PMed me with this one and I already replied to it

  • In the second quarter alone, Google has managed to reel almost $1.5 billion in earnings. Paid clicks on adsIf you do the mathematics here, Google is making upwards of $4 million daily, just on ads alone.

Google android phone is Linux they make money off of it.

Google chrome os is Linux and I'm sure they will find a way to make money off it as well.

Don't get me wrong I like Linux , but I don't want googles hand on it. Linux Mint, Ubuntu , Slackware

and the ELSE Linux SmartPhone is nice...

  • yeah Googles adwords is a phenomenal success , no one would debate that, they're a company not a charity, but I'm saying that the money they do make is through good software and good practice such as respecting people's privacy, but we have gotten way off topic here

  • So are you saying you have any proof that Adobe has bad practice, bad software, or has ever not respected people's privacy ?

I thick your mix up Microsoft and Adobe...

Microsoft does not respected people's privacy , and is always doing shady stuff... But I bet you have Windows on your computer and Microsoft is worst of all of them put together.

  • O.k. your argument is Flash is holding technology back... I could say the same thing Microsoft, or Apple they should just give it all away for free by your logic right ? Johndeere is holding farmers back because the sale their tool, and don't just give it away. Lack of money holds people back as well, so maybe we so give everything away for free... Your way of thinking sounds more like the Zeitgeist Movement , or Venus Project.

NEW!!! 2009 - THE ZEITGEIST MOVEMENT ORIENTATION PRESENTATION

  • how is flash holding tehnology back?

last time i checked html5 will be rdy in 2022 , by that time flash will have advanced too

also no html5 demo even remotely impressed me , flash can make superior products

  • no HTML5 will not "be ready by 2022" that's the date given by one guy on the official "final recommendation" it's means NOTHING in practical term believe me.

    html5doctor(dot)com/2022-or-when-will-html-5-be-ready/

Read this and perhaps you'll understand

  • Search for: "Longest Video Ever On YouTube!"

  • Some interesting points

  • so fucking long

  • ie is stupid!!

its the most stupid browser ever

  • "workers are quite rich" lol.

  • Is the audio sounding androidy/robotesque only to me?

  • Chrome r godly.

  • o google ta utilizando api adobe flash/flex para incrementar sua virtial machine, o V8. Ta fazendo merda pra variar. De novo ... huHUHUHUhu

  • all on the web ...

is it really usefull at the end

  • google should release youtube in intensive HTML5,CSS3, SVG,javascript, canvas... use.

This whould crash IE in a wall in a week.

  • damn fuckin straight!

  • IE suck

  • Google owns youtube. Also, as you become more popular on youtube, or get sponsored, you can post longer videos.

  • Google bought YouTube a looong time ago. Get your facts straight before you post.

  • dude get an update -.-

  • dumbass

google bought youtube for 2 billion dollars

  • sound probs here

  • woot go google keep going love your stuff woot keep doing such a good job

    love you google

  • google please make chrome and youtube into html5

  • HTML 5 can be served as XML depending on the mime type. This is called XHTML 5.

  • Google is not the one inventing HTML 5. HTML 5 is being developed jointly by WHATWG and the W3C HTML 5 Working Group, which does include Google, but also every single major browser vendor and several other high-level technology companies.

  • Do you really think that "controls=true" or somethinglike that is better than just saying "controls".

I think it's much more natural to put only "controls", and much more human-readable.

I understand that XML doesn't support valueless attributes. But HTML is not XML (and there are other markup languajes with different syntaxes ;)

  • Yes, without doubt sounds much better only 'controls' than 'controls="true"', checkbox have that problem, you can put: 'checked="checked"' or 'checked="true"' but sounds weird the first way.

The main problem is that is not human-readable but in the past that was a major problem with html broken, developers just made anything of shortcuts which work on a particular browser but not on all, that is why I like more xhtml even their weirdness on those special cases =)

  • No, same here. Not all I/O talks have the issue, but this one does.

  • Is it just my computer or is the sound terrible for everyone? The sound is heavily distorted and I can't normally listen to the talk like this.
