  • this blows shit

  • seen many times

  • Certainly an interesting take on the song, I prefer the original but this version has a nice energy to it :)

  • Utter shite!

  • they gave this song proper energy!!!

  • they raped the song

  • press 0 if u wanna see the reporter

  • blijft mooi

  • Yes Paul and Steve Slack are brothers and were both Subs.

  • Steviebhoye...I also used to have this on green vinyl.

  • Steviebhoye...I also used to have this on green vinyl.

  • Remember buying this in Green Vinyl!

  • When I first started watching this vid I thought, OH SHIT, another classic song screwed up by a Punk Rock band, But!!!! I WAS TOTALLY WRONG, these guys did a great and creative job of this song and I am glad I gave it a chance and listened to it.

  • great band, but the original song is better

  • One of the first punk songs I ever heard, and one of the best! So great to see the video again after so many years. I saw the UK Subs live on the Mendips (Green Ore) in the early 80s, and will never forget it - one of the best punk bands ever !

  • This is crap.

  • See our version of "She's not there" on our channel - top right hand side.

  • is that paul slack on vocals?

  • @bigchrisoioi yeh mate

  • Brilliant

  • its too fast

  • @yokoh691 If it's too fast, you're too young!

  • @TheModCon

Oh dear. We don't care about you.

    Thanks.

  • You cared enough to reply. Fail.

  • Charlie is getting stuck in with his guitar....

  • cool version of "She's not there"

  • I remember buying this as a kid, it was in green vinyl.

  • me too - stranglehold was on pink!!

  • I think Stranglehold was in red, I think it was Teenage or Party In Paris that was pink.

  • If I could find an expert Archeologist to go dig through my loft and find it I could confirm that - lol. No I suspect your memory is better than mine. Never saw them play live. I did see Buzzcocks, SLF and Clash.

By the way, was it UK Subs or SLF who did the White Christmas cover? Damn memory is failing me.

  • @Adasusy1

    SLF

  • Found the singles!!

White Christmas on B side of At The Edge. Forgot that track altogether.

  • It was SLF and in was in the Aberdeen capital !!

  • You were right. Stranglehold in red. Picture sleeve. She's not there in Green. Also dug out Sound of the Suburbs in clear vinyl with picture sleeve. Remember hating the Pet Shop Boys horrible rip-off - Suburbia. You knew punk was over then.

  • slf

  • i like this Much much more than the shitty Santana cover... but not a PATCH on the Zombies

  • Great Paul Slack !!

  • great band.see them at the wickerman festival scotland july 2009,"another kind of blues" is a classic album, this band were awesome in their prime

  • yeah awesome single with flipside scum of the earth and telephone numbers...luminous socks were trendy then..it was 79 and i was 17 ..

  • that and brand new age... have them on c.d. now :-)

  • PML@" Is that Gary Numan singing? " !!!

Why isn' t Charlie singing? He was the front man!

  • Thats Paul Slack the bassist

  • Thank you.

So how come Charlie didn' t sing?

"Charlie don' t sing and we think he should...Charlie don' t sing and you know that it ain' t no good..."

  • Charlie don't surf for his hamburger mamma...my son bought me Sandanista for xmas. He is 15 and making the transition from Metal to punk/new wave and playing some Clash covers and hell...turning into his Dad

  • Excellent. I wish my son could turn from hip hop to punk rock. I was fronting a few punk rock bands myself. Bizex-B for instance (can be found on here and on MySpace).

    Cheers, mate.

  • Love it.

  • out in late '79 reminds me of buying luminous socks, which were 'trendy' at the time!

  • I fucking love this shit. Can't help it- it's an awesome cover (and I'm jealous I didn't think of this first... oh wait, my parents didn't even know each other in '79. funny.)

  • The man singing is Paul Slack, who left in 1980. This line-up reunited for a brief UK Tour in the fall of 2007. Great live band, I've seen them twice.

  • @andyhowpog wow, 2007, seems like only yesterday... oO

  • @TheMegaCoolGirl98 2007? It is compared to 1979, cos I can remember seeing this then!

  • @andyhowpog uk subs live are always great!

  • @azazelcaos Aren't they just?! Now seen them 3 times, third time this summer in my old home town of Crewe. Fantastic gig!

  • its ok, not a big fan though

  • Is that Gary Numan singing?

  • the subs made this there own song totally brilliant always played this till it was so battered threw it away shame great it was

  • Good cover. The rougher sound actually suits this song, the record is quite well done as although the style is rough the quality of the performance isn't.

  • wtf?

  • Check out charlie harper pretending to play that v guitar. Great footage.

  • Brilliant, i bought this in 79, if my memory serves me well it was in green vinyl. Superb.

  • hahaha. fail.

  • Im Also young, 19 years old and both versions are brilliant, this is genius!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm 18 years old, and I adore both the original and the UK Subs cover. So please, do not generalize.

  • @IrelandJames i am 14

  • I play this song even faster with my own band...

  • that suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucked

  • Stop there, hold on a moment. Charlie on guitar,or do I see wrong? I know from the book Burning Britain that Charlie doesn´t sing this one,but Paul Slack did. Btw,any news of reforming the original line-up soon? Please, let me know. I´m a big U.K.Subs-fan since the first single.

  • kimpefc is right... last week Charlie keeled over on stage and CPR had to be administered... but can you believe it... The fucker kept on singing throughout! Its true.. Honest!!

  • good cover santana group, in youtube la honorable sociedad

  • charly harper on guitars !!! i think they didn't plug it !

  • Paul Slack is a star! If only he had sung instead of that talentless troll Charlie Harper!

  • How very dare you ! Our Charlie is 178 years old , give him respect .

  • what's up w/the lip-synching?

  • Kicks was a great song too.

  • Dear Charlie, will you ever learn that you were NEVER meant to play guitar! If i recall correctly you could always play a wee bit of bass, but on this video you cannae even manage to mime a good guitar. Thanks for the memories.CHEERS

  • Good cover different from the original, but not bad at all!

  • Not as good as the original Zombies version, not as good as the Santana cover, but not as bad as I expected.

  • First band I ever went to see. Marquee club with this line up, fantastic band!

  • saw these guys in cardiff south wales in the early 1980 it was a tough gig loads of gangs including mods and skins - in the gig fights and stuff thrown (bottles, glasses, ashtrays and allsorts) - the kids slagging the music - well if you were there with the music fights and the football in our day -you would have shit yourselves - no computer - just real deal

  • If u don't like the uk subs, why are u watching this, u wanker.

  • Yes go Fuck you self,UK SUBS Top Notch.

  • Total crap! OMG that is terrible!

  • Crappy version, the singer totally sucks.

  • a very good version!

  • that totally sucks and is a disgrace to the original

  • whoever was singing and playing i just wish it was someone eles.

that was shiiiiiiite with a capital poo

  • I always liked this one as well - the only UK Subs song that Charlie doesn't sing on?

  • Jack Warren, cock.

  • I´ve seen them twice at early 80`s in Finland.

  • crap

  • I don't think it sucked. I think they did a good job. UK Subs rule!

  • It sucks

  • Who cares. It's the Subs! It's all good in my book.

  • It's not their best moment...

  • So, Gary Numan on vocals, Charlie Chaplain on flying V and Alvin Startdust on other guitar.

Who's on drums? My money's on Sooty.

  • That made me laugh out loud. I loved the Subs and they were the first band I ever saw (in 1980). I thought I had seen God. Nevertheless, you're spot on!

  • I remember having this on green vinyl. Great toon...

  • the original bass player was Steve slack.he then got replaced by his brother Paul.

  • i searched things out, according to the official website it's some dude called paul slack who's singing

  • Man..they totally made this song theirs!!

  • Not on vocal - Charlie is playing the "Flying V" guitar on the right.I believe it is Alvin Gibbs on vocal.

  • No its Paul Slack on vocals

  • is that charlie harper??:S

  • I think it is Gary Numan singing...hahahahahahahaha. Greatest cover song ever! Thanks for the vid

  • truepunk scroll down his name is paul slack

  • I know, I was joking. His hair kind of resembled Gary Numan. This was my favorite record when it came out...couldn't hear it enough times. Thanks

  • dude then ur something like retired punk grandpa:P

u where actually part of the "real" punkscene..

  • Hey, I'm not that old! HA! Who am I kidding, I could be your grandpa, I suppose. I swear it feels like yesterday, when I was a teenage "punk". Oh well, I will die a punk! Cheers
