I gotta get me a saturn! no worries about losing my keys.. except perhaps cops thinking i stole it.
too bad it's shit quality and uncomfortable (at least the back seat of the L series wagon i rode in the other day). Is there a way to replace the seats?
@mr4izzle building oil pressure...sometimes. other cases could just be the engine. i know my saturn SC2 revs that high for about 10 seconds first start
@bdwsr88888 thats weird. my civic goes upto 1500/2000 rpm at idle on cold starts. and drops to about 1000. once's it hit operating temp. that tach. looked like someone was about to launch it lol
My friends 2002 SL1 does the same exact thing...lol...you can start it with any key or anything that will turn the cylinder..Great Saturn quality at its best.;)
I can be driving with my factory key, and it falls out... then with my spare and it stays. I'll walk into a store take my key leave my ca running.. lol... A/c!
Ok reasons this is happeninig, his key is worn out so it lets him take the key out once the ignition is open there for not closing the ignition, but leaving it in acc, where all the wafers, are still align, and allowing him to turn it with anything, the ignition is not damage or worn out, his key is the problem, if he gets a brand new key cut by code at the dealer, or at a locksmith, he will not be able to do this trick anymore cus the wafers will not let the new key release from the ign. lock.
lol you could do the same thing with my saturn, any key would start it, flat screw driver would start it, and you could pull the keys out while driving and throw them at your friends ;)
My buddys truck was like that, (it was a GM with the two tabs you grab so you turn the ignition without putting pressure on the key), so we would move it all the time on him at school without any key at all. Now thats my idea of a good time...
Turn the tumbler all the way back when you turn the car off and it'll only start with the right key. It's not really a Saturn-specific problem but pretty much all cars will do this once the ignition wears out enough.
according to yahoo saturns were sum of the most stolen cars from 94-01, i have a 1999 sc1 and i cant do this with mine lol, of course i tried it tho, its probly better that mine doesnt do that tho
same here. you dipshits. try locking the fucking ignition first before trying each shit key. my other vehicles do that too. its called a worn out ignition dipshits.
youre bitch, just lock your strering and it will not start, mine can start with a screwdriver if i don't lock it. just pull out the key while running and place another. just stop the engine and place it just a little before que acc place and place the key you want, everyone can do this
thats a simple fix...its just a lock cylinder...they always break on old saturns...its like $150 or something like that...you could start it with your finger if you tried hard enough...if your ignition is the least of your problems on an old car then it must be a pretty good car!
Oh, and if you are able to put the ignition to ACC or not to LOCK all the way, I can start it with my fingernails! This is with any car. And if the key is in lock and I can turn it with anything, then like the other dude said, its the ignition's internals that are bad...they wear down over time.
fucking looser, i had one, if you don't let the key ton the stop position you will be able ton start with any key, you les it on acc, and you don't enter the key to maximum, it's sure i will start even with a hyundai key!!!! And for the one before me, saturn rev will drop down a the same speed as the engine got warmer, it's because the engine is cold it's rev high
I was able to start my friend's saturn that way too. And another kid I know has an '89 Bronco that doesnt need anything, just turn the switch and it starts...
I think the ignition is just worn out, we used to have a beat up old Mercury Tracer that would start and you could pull the key out while it was still running.
I know there's a trick to this...like NOT turning the key to the lock position, because that's the only damn way it worked on my Saturn. Or maybe yer ignition is just FUBAR. Explain the trick to me, I must know!
Easy, when a key gets worn down, it can be removed from the ignition because it's gotten thinner and the things that lock it into place can't hold it. I could easily show you this on my Saturn with my old worn key...once I got a new key, I could no longer do this.
This is verry common on old cars all you need is a new ignition switch

There was actually a recall because of that there was a problem with keys falling out of the ignition

Did your friend have his foot on the accelerator when he started the car? The Saturn sounded like it was idling abnormally high.

I was able to start my friend's saturn that way too. And another kid I know has an '89 Bronco that doesnt need anything, just turn the switch and it starts...

The reason it's doing it is because the pins or wafers in the cylinder are all seized at the unlock position or worn down too far.
